I love that he DID write a "silly song about Facebook" WHILST challenging the norm. Also he said that he was surprised to see how the audience that came up to him to tell him they most related to his work were teenage girls, even more than his peers. He's also talked about how cringey it is to pander to teens in a patronising way. Also is it just me who gets chills when the "we think we know you" line first happens?

I may be 100% wrong, but I think that he is showing that even though the comments and all the negativity although they may effect him he still uses it to make the beat of the song. He uses his art to deal with the negativity. Music from pain and chaos, art from suffering, and depression.

My interpretation of this show is that bo is being offended by these 3 people and then he turns all his problems into music. That's exactly what he did on his last shows and on the inside. In "we think we know you" he also increases the music until he can't hear the insults.

I reckon you nailed this one dude! Regarding Tim Minchin: Bo is a lot more introspective and clever with things like his staging, symbolism and production. Tim just uses music (he’s an amazing pianist) and comedy to say things like they are. He deals with stuff like religion, child abuse in the Catholic Church, evolution, race, love, etc, but it’s a lot more silly and light-hearted (mostly) than Bo’s inner-turmoil. Here are some recommendations (not in any order): - Prejudice - Pope Song (a lot of f-bombs) [best with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra] - Confessions - Darkside - Storm (9-minute beat poem)

9:30 that's an interesting interpretation. i think that kind of hand-wave gesture we see him do is his way of looping the last four bars in this impromptu fantasy music software he's introduced to us. it doesn't seem like the most intuitive gesture, as we can see given how you misinterpreted it. but he wasn't exactly going to interrupt the performance to explain a new mechanic of this fantasy scenario we're all playing along with, so i think we can give him some slack in that regard.
@moni13000

I loved your insight on this. I had never noticed before how he drowned out the voices with the music. And after you mentioned it I know that that was exactly his intent. To expand on what you said about him taking their bullying and turning it into his show, I kinda felt like he was literally taking control back from them. Up till then their voices hadn’t changed. But not only did he control their voice, he changed their tune. He used autotune to make their voices into something different, something better. It’s been years since I first saw this special and I’m still getting blown away by his genius.

Honestly the memorization must have been torture, I just imagine him sitting there trying to memorize the hand movements for the song while the lyrics remind him of everything he’s been told or had gone through throughout the peak of his popularity. I don’t know how someone could do that, and to me it shows how strong of a person he is, or at least was (I haven’t seen his new album yet). In a way, I envy his strength and perseverance.

I really hope you continue reacting to his songs, there isn't any wrong choices when it comes to Bo imo. I heard that Tim Minchin was actually one of Bo’s comedic inspirations. And I can understand why. Tim in incredibly clever, his comedic timing is impeccable. And no shade to Bo’s cause his piano playing is amazing, but Tim is on another level. Like Tim has actually composed musicals. I would definitely start with Prejudice. It’s one of his best known and for good reason.

Did you notice how on the remix part of it, where he included the voices into his song, he could only take the girl and the dude selling weed into it, but the show ended with "Mr. Burnham" still there, unaffected by the song? Because while he can drown out the people wanting to be friends with him or looking down on him he was still unable to escape the industry trying to make money out of him.

Side note is that he went to an all boys catholic high school (I lived a town over), so no girl said "hey we knew each other freshman year" But I assume he needed a different pitched voice for the song, so that's why it's a feminine voice.

This miming segment, and the ones he did at the start and in the middle of this special, are inspired by Tim Minchin's "So Fucking Rock", which was the opening skit of his second special, and a standalone short film version exists too. That was in turn inspired by a Rowan Atkinson sketch about playing invisible drums. There are a million reactions on KZfaq to Tim Minchin songs like "Prejudice", "Inflatable You", and "Confessions", but if you ask me, his real gems are songs like "Beauty", "Not Perfect", "The Fence", "Thank You God", "You Grew On Me", "The Good Book", "Cont", or his poems like "Storm" and "Angry (Feet)" Bo Burnham seems to quote Minchin's "Beauty" in his song "#Deep"

Whoa never made the connection between those 3 videos, good observation! I second ‘The Fence’ ‘Thank You God’ ‘You Grew on Me’ and ‘Cont’

You should react to Eff, or Channel 5: The Musical by Bo Burnham. They’re interesting songs with a message behind them

As a creative type person, he’s one of the few people that when I see them perform, I’m genuinely jealous. This little tiff he’s had the last five years, will only make him better, as evident by his latest. There have been a lot of musical comics, and Bo is just on another level, especially musically. All this shit is original. And its not just simple chord progressions with a poppy melody over the top. This is high level stuff, with really impactful chord and key changes. And he does these things musically to support his lyric/comedy, and it all just synergizes. He knows what he’s doing, is what I’m saying......and his content is on fuckin Netflix for a reason.
