Bad sound quality, bad lyrics, questionable singing, and an out-of-tune piano, but it's still fantastic to be able to hear this piece of history. This is a part of a 5-minute tape that I will upload soon. The tape was recorded in the garage of 16-year-old Bob Dylan (then Zimmerman) by his friend and peer, John Bucklen, who can be heard singing with Bob. The Zimmerman residence was 2425 7th Ave. E., Hibbing, MN., now a pilgrimage destination for some fans. The tape, referred to by enthusiasts as the Bucklen Tape, is the earliest circulating recording of Bob, and this is the only original song on the tape, making it Bob's first recorded original song.
Love & Peace,
~SP

the song that comes right after this one on the Bucklen tape, 1958, dylan 16-17, continues on with another little richard demonstration, the name of the track is 'Dylan and Bucklen debate Little Richard". there's a rock music instrumental playing and Dylan starts singing/screaming expressively, with a couple of "ooooohs!!!" thrown in, like Little Richard taught Paul McCartney to do when the Beatles were opening for Little Richard in early 1963, and he says to John Buckley, "that's little richard, he has so much expression", something like that, he and John are debating this, John said "you think music is just about screaming and jumping on the piano??" and Dylan says the thing is, Little Richard has EXPRESSION, and Bucklen says "Johnny Cash has expression," and Dylan is really intense and he starts making fun of Johnny Cash, imitating Cash's singing in an exaggerated slow boring style, and then that clip ends. i don't remember how i got the Bucklen tapes recording, i think it was floating around on you tube, i'm sure that's where i was hearing it, it might have been back when you could download whatever you wanted from You Tube. a long time ago.

I think it's "we're clippin' too much", recording engineering term for overdriving the input to the tape recorder so that the high peaks of the audio are 'clipped' (truncated). The needle would be pegging into the red and the audio would be distorting (as it is). -- from an old audio engineer of the 70s. I recorded the "Buckingham Nicks" Live in Tuscaloosa that you can find on the interwebs.
