Bob Steele in his first sound picture is all action and all fight when he needs to be. I wish he did more singing in his movies. His brother did the first voice over for John Wayne. Great to see America's favorite fathter, Lafe McKee and favorite Sheriff Hank 'Handlebar' Bell.

This was relased June 19, 1930 (according to Wikipedia) and was Bob Steele's first sound picture. He had made a number of silent films, and he certainly seems at ease in the then-brand-new world of 'talkies.' Until viewers become familiar with silent films and get a sense of how good they can be, as well as how differently they challenge the acting skills of those early screen stars, they do not know how different an experience it is to watch one. Thank you for posting this 93 year old movie!

Bob Steele was short but perfected a number of ways to mount a horse that took the eye off of his stature. He was the best at that with his impressive strength and acrobatic skills.

At 15:20 a trip is used to bring down Bob Steele`s horse. In the 68 Bob Steele movies that I`ve watched to date I`ve never before seen a trip used. This was hopefully the last time as this was a rather early Bob Steele- it was his first sound movie although he had already made 27 silent movies & 13 silent shorts, starting in 1920.

Bob Steele in "Of Mice and Men" (1939) is antipodal to this character which only tells me that Bob was really a great talent....versatile, smart, and creative. Another one of my great childhood heros.

Yes, his real last name was Bradbury and his father was a producer of many of his movies including John Wayne’s B westerns. You can see his father’s name at the beginning of many B Westerns.

11:24 I love it when they show the women during the fights, because secretly the women like to see men fight. I also love when Ruth gives Buck the brush off when he tries to put the moves on her. 38:46

The old b&w film made people look like they had no lips so make-up was used.
