Please ignore all the annoying comments.. This is exactly what I needed to troubleshoot the bobbling hammer I was trying to correct. You are explaining a complicated component, and I appreciate your thoroughness. Thank you.

I got a brand new Kawai K300! After I had it on service and afterwards, when playing staccato or not holding down the keys, the hammer hits the strings 2times + it feels like the key is "lagging" when I use my pedal, as if its not as smoth as it was before.. is this connected?

Hi. I swapped the piano for a brother. Same piano, but not as prominent on the new one. Still happened/happens and I got used to it. It's more something annoying when you just spent 7000$ on something than it is when life happens, if that makes sense:) And yes, it happened playing pianissimo too. @@roadguide123

On a grand, a few notes when played p or pp, restrike the string. Left off and drop match all hammers around the notes. Playing to softly that I don’t think back check is in play yet. Would most suggestions you mention for the vertical be the same targets?
@howardpianoind
@howardpianoind Жыл бұрын
No, the grand action is a completely different "animal." One possible cause is that the repetition springs are set too strong on these notes. To test, play the problem notes with a firm blow and hold the key down so that the hammer is held in check. Now slowly release the key and watch the hammer. It should move upwards by the force of the spring with a slow but steady rise. If the hammer jerks up quickly the spring may be too strong (or the pinning of the repetition lever may be too weak). See our video on "Grand Repetition Adjustment.

So a little bit of movement when you touch the key is good or none at all?
@howardpianoind

Just a very slight amount of movement.

My piano has some bobbling hammer issues. Technician said I can’t have it tuned until it’s fixed and quoted a price greater than the value of the piano. Was he correct ? Or do you think he’s trying to rip me off ?
@howardpianoind
@howardpianoind 4 жыл бұрын
In most cases you can fix the bobbling hammer issue fairly easily. It could be that the technician found other problems the piano has that need to be addressed as well. But if it is just bobbling hammers, some regulation adjustments should take care of the problem.

What is the pianos "value" or worth? If you mean it's a piano you bought for $300, or $400 or an other low amount, now you know why it was so cheap. Full regulations can and do cost $500 or more. There is a reason why piano stores and dealers charge what they do for their pianos, they generally come ready to go, meaning they paid someone to fix all of these issues. Rarely is a piano free or cheap. It's going to cost you money one way or another: either when you buy from a store, or when you buy a cheap one and then pay a technician to repair it.

The original quote from the guy trying to rip me off was greater than it would cost to buy a brand new ( not used and definitely not cheap) piano . I did eventually find a honest technician who repaired it at a much lower price. Good as new now!

I have played the worst Wurlitzer grand and the hammers did double-knocks, the unacorda pedal made the hammers hit 2 strings on some places and it sounded metallic like a saloon piano but in a very bad way.

@@PiotrBarcz Sounds like a felt may have come off a hammer.
@PiotrBarcz
@PiotrBarcz 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ketoswammy No it was because the hammers weren't falling far enough downward and then they bounced up again to hit the string a second time.

What is the reasonable price to fix Bobbling Hammers?
@howardpianoind
@howardpianoind 4 жыл бұрын
In many cases it is just a small adjustment. If you have regulation adjustments done on your piano this should fix the problem. The cost can vary, but typically around $100-$200.

@@tyler_ You all are assholes. Make your own tutorial videos so I can comment unnecessarily negative things. This is a troubleshooting video. If you want to know how to fix the problems he clearly says he has other videos detailing how to fix the problems. If he just had everything together it would be like 5 hours long and you would complain that it was too long and impossible to navigate.
