Only got into them a few years back, well into my thirties. Rap is not usually my bag, but Chuck D is a class apart. He's right up alongside the likes of Bob Dylan and Ray Davies in terms of lyricists, imho.

I'm 55 & mainly grew up listening to Metal. It wasn't until Anthrax & Public Enemy teamed up on Bring the Noise that I discovered Public Enemy. Been a fan of Public Enemy ever since. Absolutely love Chuck D's delivery/cadence to his vocals...and on this song...goddamn!

I know I am a bit late to the game, but I appreciate this so much. Chuck D has the most distinctive voice in hip hop and the Prodigy is never lets me down.

Public Enemy and Run-DMC built the bridge between hard rock and rap. PE is perhaps the only rap group to consistently tour and share stages with rock acts (or electronic music acts like the Prodigy). Always testing themselves against the high energy that elite rock groups bring to the table.

I found Run DMC/Aerosmith thing corny, sachirrine , unsophisticated and easy. The Anthrax PE and Prodigy amalgams were way better. I don't think Walk this Way deserves its standing in rock n roll history (and by rock n roll I mean the historic sense. Any artist that had integrity, didn't sell out to brand placement and marketing

Saw Public Enemy open for U2 at Oakland Stadium in the 90s (Achtung Baby Zoo Tour). The ignorant, provincial, predominately 20-something San Francisco Yuppie crowd booed the band that played prior to PE offstage...The Sugarcubes, (featuring BJORK!). Those three bands had one thing in common. They were daring and original and exciting as hell onstage.
