GILBERT, Arizona -- Newly released body camera shows the distraught father of 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan months before their disappearance.
Charles Vallow, the former husband of Lori Vallow Daybell called the Gilbert Arizona Police Department in January 2019 after being unable to speak to his two kids for a couple of days. It's when police arrived that Charles told an officer about his wife's concerning beliefs.
"She's not here," Charles said in the video. "She lost her reality."
Charles told officers Lori considered herself a translated being and a God who spoke with an ancient prophet and Jesus daily. He said her strange beliefs were several years in the making but got increasingly worse.
"I love her to death, this is killing me officer," Charles said.
Even more concerning to Charles was Lori told him Nick Schneider took over his body and she would have to allegedly kill him. Charles said Lori told him "I can murder you now with my powers."
Charles told officers he called them fearing not only his safety but the safety of JJ and Tylee. He said earlier that day while on a business trip in Houston Texas Lori called him, telling him to take the kids.
When he landed at the airport Charles found his truck gone and Lori said she threw out all of his clothes. She also allegedly emptied their joint bank account that day. With the truck were also his keys to get into their home.
Body camera footage shows Charles, as well as officers, kicking in the door of the home. The video near and inside the home was blurred by police.
When the police came they had an order to have Lori picked up by officers for a mental health exam. They said typically they don't serve those orders during the night time and only came to check on the kids.
"The only reason why we're here is some of the statements that you made towards our dispatcher, that you provided to them ... he (an officer) made the discussion to conduct the welfare check to make sure your children are safe," an officer said.
Without any crime being committed police left the home.
The next morning Lori visited with officers to file a report against Charles Vallow. She then checked herself in for the mental health exam and was medically cleared.
Months later Lori's brother Alex Cox shot and killed Charles at a home in Chandler Arizona on July 11, 2019. By the end of September 2019, JJ and Tylee disappeared.

this is the problem with cops well one of the problems, they don't listen or take things seriously.Women who are abused are a joke to them they show up and act like buddies with the abuser and turn on the woman, and when children are in danger and you tell them over and over they don't do anything. They act as if it's a joke or waste of there time. Those children and other children could have been saved if cops, cps, and the justice system cared or made it a priority.A change is way overdue.

whats worse, the very next morning, Lori, the daughter who was later killed and her best friend, the psycho Melanie Gibb, went to the police station to file a complaint against the husband for taking her purse!!. All of this is on video as well. The cops fell in love with Lori, and believed everything she said. They then called him, and he had that order to have her put away at a hospital for 48 hours. He said he was coming to the station with her purse that he took from her , trying to get his truck back. The cops then went back in to talk to Lori and told her about the order and told her that if she were to leave the station while the order was being looked at by the Seargant , then they couldnt stop her and she could avoid having the order served on her!!! The basically conspired so the order to put her in a hospital for 48 hours could not be served! Violating , god know, how many laws! .. Unbelievable police department. Sherriff and all detectives should be fired!

Police not only need to be watched more closely for racism but for negligence because there is no telling how their actions did or didn’t play a part out in the end results. @smh9000 exactly what I thought when the story of Charles broke. I thought she shot him and Alex took 'the fall'. Cops failed to gunshot residue test both Alex and Lori. Apparently no cursory check of this address where this call at the home included threats of violence. The cops even coached Alex throughout his confession. So it was entirely bungled. Alex had to have an immediate threat to shoot to kill. Cop asked him where he retrieved the gun and he'd gone back to his bedroom. He should have barricaded himself in. But walked back out and shot Charles. That is the only story I know of. But it would have brought charges against Alex any other time or place. Lori is practically giggling to the police while her husband lies dead inside. Then she has a pool party. But in October, (Charles died 7/11/19) Brandon Boudreaux is shot at in his vehicle by a man in Charles Vallow's Jeep that Tylee drove. Brandon was in a divorce from Lori's close niece, Melani, who sticks real tight with Lori even moving to Idaho with her at the same time. Then Tammy Daybell was shot at ten days before her death. And did they do an autopsy? NO. They exhumed her for autopsy in December the day before Alex died on the bathroom floor in his own excrement. Lori is a serial killer wiping out her family if they get in her way. She has another dead husband, Joseph Ryan, Tylee's bio father. And still no word on the whereabouts of her first two husbands. Two missing, I presume dead. One, possibly two dead sisters. Now Alex died 12/12/2019. Tylee and JJ are missing; I presume dead. Tammy Daybell dead 17 days before Lori and Chad marry in Hawai'i. Ten people are dead or missing in Lori's wake. I wonder if she has missing former friends as well.

"I love her to death, _this is killing me_ officer." This is so heartbreaking to watch. Charles seems like such a soft spoken, kind man and you can tell how broken up and scared he is. He knew something was very wrong and no one took him seriously. Even after they shot him in cold blood Chandler PD took her & Alex’s word that it was "self defense." Even if they would have just done a cursory check they would have found this body cam and his court documents that _should have_ raised questions regarding his death. Only _now_ that 3 people are dead and 2 children are missing, are people taking Charles seriously. But he knew. That’s what’s so sad about all this to me. He _knew._

@@Luv2LuvEm he would have had to give the officer "a plan" of how Lori was going to kill him. We can all go around saying we are going to kill someone. This does not give them rights to admit or arrest. But, if she added the plan on how she was going to murder him such as: "I am going to have my brother Alex come and shoot you in cold blood." then this can get her a 72 hr observation. It would be interesting to see WHY the evaluator the next day let her go after the psych eval. they are very lazy. They do not like involuntary admitting someone. It entails them having to go to a hearing in front of a judge and testifying against Lori to convince the judge that she needs more than 72 hours. This is Work! and most evaluators are lazy and incompetent and system people. The judges typically do a good job but they dont get to see the people like Lori, cause the evaluators drops the ball. The police know this and takes the same stance. Because its the police that has to escort them to the evaluation and elsewhere if committed to a psychiatric facility. It can take an entire 24 hours waiting for the process to complete, and they usually drop the ball before the right services are implemented.

Gilbert PD were a LOT nicer to Lori than Charles. That is for certain. Wasn't she at a hotel with the kids ( and Bailey) at this time? She probably knew Charles would call LE and that's why she ran to a hotel. This is really the first video I have ever seen of Charles. I do not know anyone involved in the case but, Even in a video I can just feel how loving and kind Charles is. I live in Idaho so of course am very familiar with LDS faith and LDS culture. To me, Charles is obviously a faithful LDS member. When Charles speaks, you can feel that sincere kind of love that many LDS peeps have. Not ALL but a good number of LDS members do have that sincere kind of way shoing live for their family and for their fellow man. Lori supposedly had said that she was " more spiritual than Charles.." if kids were not still missing I would take a chance to roast her over such a stupid thing to say. This man is CLEARLY spiritual. He is a kind patient and loving about his family. Treats Tylee as his own. He CLEARLY loves all those kids. I for one am very touched after watching Charles exhibit strength and kindness when most of us would have lost our empers after being stranded at the airport after a long day of work, a long flight, no car, no money...... I would have liked to have known Charles. He seemed like such a good man. Now when Chad Daybell SPEAKS: n a manner obviously attempting to imitate LDS general Authorities, Chad has his general authority impersonation down pat. And his website looks almost identical to official LDS Websites. Chad only talks about himself- oh, and of course his many, MANY chuch callings. LDS members and LDS non members are all very familiar with Chad's "tyoe of Mormonism" which of course really is not " Mormon." At all. Chad is egotistic. Chad is also quite boring. And yet, Lori sees Chad as the more spiritual of these two men? IMHO Chad has nothing on Charles in any way shape or form. Watching Charles warms my heart. I can tell he is the real deal. I do hope we can find his kids as well as justice for Charles. Such a good guy. It sickens me that Charles had a hard time getting anyone to take his concerns seriously. I know ILE can only so much. To think the very next day Lori wpukld drag her 17 yr old ( COMPLETELY INAPPROPRITE for a mother) to t he station, her BFF MG just sits there allowing Lori to disparage Charles while giggling like a teenager. Obviously at this point Lori and Chad were in an affair. MG most likely knew It.... if MG sis not know about the affair between CD and LV, MG is not very bright. MG is the one person who could have helped Charles at this time but she didn't. MG had speaking engagements, books to sell and of course needed Chad and Lori to promote her business.... makes me SICK that MG took so long to FINALLY say something. While I am grateful she will likely testify against the Daybells I still feel MG should be VERY ashamed of her actions towards Charles Vallow. Shame on her. As always, thanks for covering. Love East Idaho News and wish you all wouips cover western Idaho as well!

@@justindeming3553 At that time even though the paper work was filed , they were not divorced nor legally separated and there was no child custody battles. But still they should have done something . They should have treated the situation as child endangerment. She seen the divorce papers that showed that Charles indicated her mental state that indicating how her behavior was & how he believed she was not in a stable frame of mind ! These officers seen the same paperwork and in fact were suppose to do a well child care check!. At that point when she was not at the resident & in fact the residence was emptied out , and the children were gone too, automatically they should have issued a warrant for her arrest! He was the one who called for police assistance. Instead they treated him like he was a criminal the minute they arrived on to the scene. They even had the paperwork in hand to do a well child care check that was triggered from the writing in the divorce paperwork that Charles had filed ! That night the police should have placed an all points bulletin or a warrant for her arrest for child endangerment. She knew there was someone coming to do a child welfare check. Why didn't they automatically post an Amber alert after they did a search of the premises! Seven year old JJ has special needs and Tylee was only 16 years old at the time (both miners) went missing! The police could have gotten a warrant not only for her arrest but also a warrant to tracked her cell phones or the kids cell phones. I wish Charles could have hired a private detective to locate their whereabouts. Family & friends surely would have helped him. Personally , I think she should not be let out on bail until she can produce the children. And she should be charged for child endangerment . The courts should have appointed lawered guidadlidem for each of the children! Tylee was receiving social security from her biological deceased fathers' social security. Tylee was still collecting SS even while she was missing someone had cashed her checks! And upon Tylees' 18 birthday Tylee was to inherit the remaining half of her biological fathers' estate. He was Lori's 3rd husband & Lori already received the other half that she was legally entitled to as the widow (of 3rd husband). I am wondering if the insurance policy from her (Tylee) late father might have indicated that her mother ( Lori) would stand to inherit Tylees inheritance if Tylee died before her 18th birthday! Low & behold Tylee goes missing a week or 2 or even days before her 18th birthday! I had to mention which husband she because she has been married 5 TIMES!!!

We are judging this by hindsight. Officers deal with crazy people all of the time. When dealing with marital issues you have to be extremely careful because you can get dragged into court. And most cases it’s not so clear cut. Plus, it’s so very difficult to get an unwilling person out into in patient treatment. The officer is asking the right questions. If she has made threats to him, her and/or the children. He is trying to help but he has to do it legally

Unfortunately, police tend to side with the woman in the majority of family disturbance matters. My ex-wife had the police come to our home after an argument & the entire time they kept trying to convince her that she could admit that she was in fear of her life. It was not a violent altercation just a loud argument. She told the officers she felt safe but they kept pressing her to say otherwise & that they would take care of it. They ended up leaving without further escalation. Fast forward a few months, I called police telling them she threatened me with a pair of scissors & they said it was my word against hers; nothing was done. We got divorced & the courts were just as bad. Ten years later & I’m STILL paying alimony!!

If only there was some way you could report people like Lori who was exhibiting schizophrenia at this stage. So they could be removed from society forcibly for treatment or permanently. Instead, as no crime had been committed YET that was the end of that.

@Rhonda Bothelio the cops did everything the law allows them to. They definitely believed him and thats why they broke into the house when they didn't have to. Even Lori's loser family freely admits he was such a great guy, then Summer and Janice and Melani go on to say that Charles was cheating and suddenly a danger to Lori and the kids. Lies. This guy didn't cheat on his wife, he loved her to death - literally. What I think happened is Lori told her family that Charles cheated just so she could justify doing these terrible things to him. That's why Zach, the nephew isn't answering his phone, he was told Charles was cheating and he didn't want to be part of that mess. I genuinely believe Tylee sided with her mother in this mess because she also believed her mother's lies about Charles cheating. She was duped and so was Lori's family. That said, why would any of Lori's family believe Lori, the person who has been married 5 times, over Charles. Clearly Lori is off her rocker. Watching how she acts in court and while she was vacationing in Hawaii and right after Charles was murdered, it is clear she is 'off'. She is not okay and anyone who is supporting her is either an accomplice in her crimes or a paintchip eating moron.

whats worse, the very next morning, Lori, the daughter who was later killed and her best friend, the psycho Melanie Gibb, went to the police station to file a complaint against the husband for taking her purse!!.

What pisses me off is he is telling Chandler police that he is totally freaked out about his wife's behavior. They're taking his words like a grain of salt and nothing to worry about. Because Charles is so soft-spoken and stable they are acting like it's no big deal, nothing to become alarmed about. Like cleaning out his business bank account, canceling his flight, and taking his vehicle, locking him out of the house and no one is nowhere to be found. And they're just having Charles walking around the house trying to get in. it should be the police that are trying to get him in and checking all the doors and windows. The freak. Part is this will be where Charles ends up being murdered. And the Chandler Police Department racked it up as self-defense because that is what Laurie's brother told them. Not one question asked even after a video like this.
