Welcome to my fourth winter Vlog video. On today's video I show some of my old skills off doing some bodywork and paint skills on some body panels for my John Deere 450 excavator. This machine was in very rough condition when I purchased it and have been wanting to do these panels for a while now. I am about a month away from getting out to the claim to put them on and start digging up some gold:) I hope you enjoy the video.

In a world full of "OH look its broke I better buy a new one" this makes me smile. It also shows you have awesome skills at making things work again. Good job.

Thanks FAF, I love a challenge. The rougher it is the more fun I have repairing them.

Ahh this took me back to my days in the body shop mixing that damn bondo and getting the dust in my eyes 😂. I definitely don’t miss it either!!!

Thanks Jared! I never really got into the painting part of doing hotrods. I stuck more to the sheet metal shaping and bodywork part. But I do know how to, just don't enjoy it as much as bashing steel hahah. Thanks for watching:)

Really enjoyed this one! I have a real appreciation for people maintaining there equipment in better than necessary to operate condition. Sure, it will work with some cracked panels and dings, but what happens when that cracked panel gets hit again, or a deluge storm comes through and cold water slams hot parts through the cracks. A little TLC goes a long way to prevent more costly issues later on, especially when the equipment is not next to the shop every weekend. Thank you for the vid, it was fun to see your work and the reasons for why you did it that way. This gives me some things to look at differently when doing home projects, much smaller in scale, but probably easier fixes to finish than they would have been. Having worked more with pipe, I had not thought much about what would help prevent sheets from warping, so you saved me lots of hammer time! lol

Thanks Manjisai, I am glad you enjoyed it. I love a fresh machine in the spring. I could never afford a new machine so I try and make my old ones look good. Thanks for watching my content once again:)

Better than new! Nice work. I’m glad you found a project indoors, lol. Those will look so much nicer on the excavator (when you can get to it). Going to be a good season with all these upgrades

That “first in last out” method makes sense. Wish I’d known that on the few repairs I’ve done 😂

Hey Daniel, yes it works very well. It just prevents any more stretching of the steel while a person hammers it out. Thanks for watching!

I like the attention to detail, I kept thinking you were restoring this to sell. Pride in your work for sure. You could have saved a few steps and just rolled with it considering it's a piece of heavy equipment used in the field. Maybe straighten out the sheet metal and roll it on like a RINO liner.

Looks great. Only thing that would bug me after putting those Ridler quality panels on is how crappy the rest of the factory paint looks lol
@TheMiningChannel

Oh I totally agree on putting them up next to a scratched panel..... It will bug me a lot. If I have a good start to the season I may give the rest of the machine a spray job out at the site. Thanks for watching Slatco

Another great video, sometimes the skill you learn along the way are for a reason. How much money do you save being able to do all these repairs and mods yourself? I think that’s the difference to surviving the mining game sometimes. Thanks for sharing, I definitely didn’t know the first in last out rule. But may explain why I get cracks and creases 😀. Look forward to the sluice build.

I do agree on what you said about being able to do a lot of this stuff on surviving the mining game. I forgot to put it in the video but each one of those panels to buy used is around 1000 bucks, then a person still has to paint them. New they are around 2500 a piece!!! A body shop would of charged around 600 a panel to repair and paint.

Damn that was crazy good when you said don’t start at the deep part of the dent I was like OOPS. I’ve tried that before and ya it didn’t work out lol but I don’t have the right tools for backing it up lol (a sledge hammer and east wing all steel framing hammer😵‍💫) those metal shrinking and stretching units are bad as* never knew they existed. 10 feet of snow😳 I’ve been in 5 feet after a 3day storm but 10feet that’s a lot of weight does it do damage to your equipment? /bend and tweek stuff? Great vlog really enjoyed it thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼
@TheMiningChannel
@TheMiningChannel Жыл бұрын
Hey 48th! Any hammer works, even a eastwing haha. As long as everything is all closed up on the machine they are usually fine under the snow. Glad you enjoyed the video:)

Those cars looked awesome... must have been a fun job just working on them. But always move forward, even if it means reinventing yourself. Do you own your own classic car? Or did you just work on other peoples?
@TheMiningChannel
@TheMiningChannel Жыл бұрын
Hey Bazamere. I did own 3 in those pictures. The fenderless chopped truck was my first one I built when I was 18. The blue chopped ford I built for myself when I was 25 then the black car with the silver roof I did for my wife when I was 30. I have not had a hotrod for myself for a while now but have a project in the back scrap yard I will do up one day:) I have sold all the cars now though.
