We were rerouted west of Oklahoma City due to major storms in that area on are way to Chicago from Houston. We got a lot of Turbulence as we went around the storm.

Notice how the camera doesn't shake at all? Smoother Ride Tech (SRT) is in place. That was probably heavy turbulence, the 787 wing is based off that of seagulls and albatross birds and the aircraft fuselage moves in very small waves over long periods of time while the wing absorbs most of the turbulent blows. Trust me, I've studied this plane and how it works since 2007.

@Anton Zuykov i actually like the bumps and roughness that comes with flying through turbulence it adds a bit of excitement to an otherwise boring flight, or maybe im just weird

the plane doesnt drop 100 feet, only a maximum of a few feet -your inner ear exaggerates the rate of change of altitude

It uses the movable wing surfaces like a shock absorber to counteract the forces, letting the free end of the wing behave like a spring. Also, while a moving wing may look unsettling, there is no stress on the free end of the wing. The maximum stress is actually at the wing root.

that ' s a good thing that the wings are alle to Flex because if the wings aren't able to Flex. with a turbolence like this. they probabily were broken

This kinda freaks me out, like the wings are about to snap or something. But it's mathematically safe right?

TheFNProductionz CFRP wings are more flexible than conventional wings made out of aluminum, but hold the same load before 'snapping'. This enables the manufacturers to build wing with less material, resulting in less overall weight. It looks a bit frightening but they are made for far more stress. The 787 takes twice the g load (continuously) and on top of that is a safety factor of around 1.8, which means 3.6G must be reached and held before they snap. Its the kind of load you get in an aircraft initiating a loop, so no worries.

those wings can bend to about 55 degrees before failure so there is a 1 in 8000 chance of those wings snapping during severe turbulence

it was bumpy cuz we all had to cover r drinks and hold on to them the lady in the center had her orange juice go off the tray table and land on her. but the plane handle it good. wen we landed i did ask the pilot about the turbalnce and he said any other plane you would have to power out and on the 787 u dnt. she was quiet the whole flight. :)

Amtrak5859 You are partially correct. The 787 is equipped with a vertical gust suppression system that counters up and downdrafts in turbulent weather and supposedly reduces the bumps.
