to be fair in historical context they had some "carriers" for scale but had no idea "escort carrier" was a thing so they assumed those were fleet carriers and that made those destroyers - by scale - seem like heavy cruisers. In this case not only game is telling you precisely which ship you are dealing with there was no escort carriers to confuse size scale with present ;)

@@MehrumesDagon Actually, the Japanese had ship identification silhouettes - just like we did - available on the bridge of nearly every ship. They could have known that the "carriers" that were in Taffy 3 (+ 2 and 1) in the distance were not the fleet carriers in the US navy based on their basic silhouette. The heat of battle can do some strange things to perception, but once they had realized that they had DEs and Fletcher class destroyers and not cruisers attacking them (yes those tin cans got so close that the Japanese could then clearly tell that they were not cruisers and battleships). There is a huge difference between the appearance of a DEs, DDs and Cruisers and a Battleships (just with a look at the turrets alone, let alone the superstructure), and the appearance of the escort carriers was distinctly different from that of the Essex class. In addition, their plotting rooms could easily have figured out that the escort carriers were very slow, not the 30+ knots that would be expected of an Essex class. Basically in the heat of battle, the observers (with their incredulity at the audacity of the US response to the attack) on the Japanese battlewagons saw bogeyman they wanted to see, and not what was there. And then yes, even when faced with the reality, they chose not to accept what their eyes were telling them and they "ran away".

tbh they are the most realistic - all aircraft squadrons attack all at once in order to minimize losses.

@@gkgameplaycz Considering they also don't need the entire match duration to just launch a full strike, carry a seemingly infinite number of replacement planes and pilots and are basically immune to fire and flooding, that's still not very realistic.

Plenty of badly aimed shots on both sides, West Virginia and Budyonny could have been dead much sooner and Bismarck definitely should have been able to kill Blitz without basically giving away most of his health. So many German BB players just go full broadside all the time not realizing that just because you don't instantly die, that doesn't mean you won't get punished.

@@satannstuff frankly, I think it's precisely because they don't immediately get erased that it promotes that stupid style of gameplay. Not getting punished as badly encourages the bad tactics perhaps.

Oh, not everybody is straight into well-aimed shots in a new ship. This was the first battle (note the snowflake) in the Brandenburg. Differing velocities can throw you, even if you are returning to a ship you have played before, and it takes some time to adjust. Admittedly, I might have tried to adjust a bit sooner, but then, according to Game Prodigy, I am in the top 20 % of the playerbase.

@@RamonInNZ That’s kind of the point of having subs in the first place. What else are they going to be good at? Better bet just make it challenging to keep the target pinged long enough for the Torps to actually reach their target. And that’s as simple as nerfing their speed to somewhat realistic numbers instead of a fantastical 90 knots.

Well said, submarines are the reason I quit the game, I may come back now that they are sidelined but once they go back in, I am probably done again. CVS are bad enough without adding subs into the mix. Also hail from a fellow Coloradan

@@thomashoffman8916 Personally I quit for almost a year after the Puerto Rico train wreck, but a friend dragged me back in to try submarines and help them grind in random. Submarines could work but they need a redesign in objectives and mechanics, Notser did a pretty in depth breakdown how to rework them. I've played submarines after each live patch to their capabilities and could feel the drop in output each time. I've also noticed something broken with their "stealth" cause after crawling on the ocean floor for 5 mins randomly changing heading I came up to find the same DD glued to me and dropping depth charges before the detected alert ever popped up. Thankfully subs will never really match a CV cause while they could be anywhere they can't be everywhere, their range is limited, their health is less than most destroyers with no heals, and their spotting range can be pretty useless unless their ready to risk being bee lined by someone with radar or radio position. Not joking in a t10 Balao I nailed a USS Montana with 8 double ping guided torpedo hits and did barely 15% his health in damage. So they are not ready and I doubt WG will make the proper adjustments but it's more sad to see Submarine potential wasted on poor design. Glory to the centennial land.
