So, apparently this is connected to the Dev's previous game, wich explains what is actually happening. Going to copy a post from the steam forums with the explanation so spoilers ahead. - The robot world is the real world. The house-program in the old man's house is telling the truth. This is why at the end when the protagonists think of meeting with Haru again for who Haru is, they "both" see the robot world. - The statue (peak antenna) is part of a global system designed to make robots think they are humans and humans are monsters. Any glitchy effects are a sign of malfunction. The protagonists seeing the real robot world and the fake animal world are malfunctions of the intended program. - Haru is probably the only real human being in this game. He is only seen as human when the aforementioned program is malfunctioning, in both the real robot world and the fake animal world. - The protagonists being beheaded and cloning themselves "makes sense" and "actually happen", because they are robots. Same goes for putting things back together and making things come back to life. As such, the additional ending is a happy ending where the protagonists ultimately see the real world for what it is and reunite with Haru. They are not eaten. Haru has never actually killed any character. This section was writen by einm on steam and not myself.

Watching the vid I was able to put some of that together, with things generally making sense in Blues robotic world while Greens idyllic world had some uh....inconsistencies. Like, spinal platforms and putting dead bodies back together. Its good to know though the thing about Haru, that was the most confusing part about all this.

I think the reason the characters landed in their respective worlds is because of their upbringing. Blue's mom is a poor barkeeper probably living in the poorer parts of the town -which usually means rundown appartments and most of their technology being broken, so he'd be more likely to see the world as a distopian place. Green's rich and has neglectful parents, so he's probably more used to plush toys and children's education playthings to replace parnetal love (and probably nature too considering where snobs like his father live). So he's more used to the cuddly furry forest world. *Why* they were transported into these worlds (it's definitely not just a visual thing) or what's up with Haru is a different thing. I'll just go with the usual "Mayor dumped radioactive waste and caused paradimensional psychic mutant" as my best guess.

My guess for why only those 3 boys are weird is that they all are half brothers And also the mayor has radioactive sperm, like Spiderman but less fun

The "human world" is also a thing. It's all a matter of perspective. And the unfortunate truth is that those who have seen hardship and are scarred by it are often seen as people who are harder to get along with -- metaphorically, they're often seen as monsters. The things they've seen or felt lead them to act in ways that few others can properly relate to, or in some cases may even cause others to lash out at them.

I think neither parent saw Haru when he was trying to hug them, because they didn't see him for who he actually was, so he still looked like a monster trying to eat them. Green and Cyan though knew it was Haru, and saw him for who he really was.

Here's a fun bit of additional context: Japanese doesn't distinguish between associative and additive plurality. "We" in English is only associative, since you mean "I and someone associated with me", rather than "multiple of me" (which would be additive). But in this game, there is more than one of each character in a certain sense, one for every world. So both interpretations make sense.
@tasse0599
@tasse0599 7 күн бұрын
What's the point of additive plurality? The only use I see is in hypothetical settings
@Gamesaucer
@Gamesaucer 7 күн бұрын
@@tasse0599 Without additive plurality, the normal English plural wouldn't exist. "brothers" is the additive plural of "brother". If it were an associative plural, "brothers" could also e.g. mean "my brother and his spouse" or "my brother and his pet cat". In Japanese any plural can be either additive or associative and the context will determine how it's understood. Of course "we"/"us" will usually be intended as associative, but from a grammatical point of view, it technically allows for an additive meaning as well. Whereas in English that's not something you'd typically even consider. The point here is not so much that "we" in Japanese explicitly also has an additive meaning, but that the distinction is never drawn in _any_ plural in the entire language, so it is _implicitly_ possible. An analogy would be that in English, most pronouns have a reflexive form, e.g. "you" has "yourself" as the reflexive form. The word "who" is also a pronoun, but does not officially have a reflexive form. But you can still imagine a word like "whoseself" and understand its meaning because it derives regularly. In Japanese, "bokura" in the additive sense would be similar, because plurals can predictably be either additive or associative. Even though this one is never additive in practice, one can imagine it being used that way because it's possible in every other case.

One lives in the poorer side of town so he sees the world as run down. One is rich and educated but neglected so he sees the replacement affection such as toys and books. And Haru was always seen as a monster, the one to blame for his parent’s misfortunes so that’s what he becomes.

The book mentioned in the night of the galactic railroad is actually a 20th century Japanese novel kinda related to the melancholic theme I guess. It’s a book where the protagonist is taken on in adventure into a galactic world on a train after having a rough day with his friend who he became distant with. Just thought it was a neat reference!

I love how they both literally see the world differently after the deer corpse, most likely dissociating but it shows that despite growing up in the same world they how vastly different outlooks on life and ways of coping. And how after talking to each other and finally discussing their differences in worldviews and their family situations, tho they are navigating the same world, the same forest, they both have to go through different obstacles to reach the same end point

This game speaks to me on some levels. I feel like the point the game is trying to tell is that everyone views the world differently. Heck i always felt like im living in a different world comapred to other people because i see things in a different way than others its like the difference between an introverts perspective and a extrovert's. People are different and thats what the 2 different worlds the protagonists are to my interpretation. Thanks Ben for amazing vid that I'll probably be still thinking about all night

I always appreciate how he goes through all of the choices in the games he showcases, and will replay to show different paths like with We Were Here Too. And this was an incredibly deep and moving story he and Cyan have shown us. I LOVE the wildly different perspectives the game gives to each player - and the fact that playing through it multiple times with the same friend gets you the full story (or as full as it will tell you)? My friend and I played this together (I was green) and we decided that it was about implicit bias, that the way we’re raised and the things we believe all affect how we see the world and how we cope with trauma. Blue sees the world as robotic and mechanical because he’s detaching himself from his emotions, and thinking through things logically. It also makes all of the deaths and game mechanics less (relatively) emotional, because they’re all robots. Conversely, Green is very optimistic about the world, and is bright and cheerful to make up for his pain. He is more emotional, which is why all of the death scenes and the scenes with the dogs are all so grotesque. Green sees all the world in opposite ends of the spectrum- happy and cute, and bloody and grotesque- Blue is the equilibrium, he doesn’t see the world as very cute, but all of the darker elements are mellowed out. Idk this probably doesn’t make sense but the game’s about implicit bias ty for coming to my ted talk

what a unique puzzle game gem. absolutely adored how the puzzles and gameplay from both players were shown off here; it made the puzzle explanations more clear and the differences between player PoVs more noticeable. holy hell these were some of the more unique two-player puzzles i've seen in a while. phenomenal. i do wonder what the deal was with the hunter, Haru, and the switching between worlds were. i guess we can just chalk it up to a glitch in the matrix lol i'm also glad Blue, Green, and Haru all met up again! i legit would've been sad as hell if the two boys didn't at least perceive each other within the same space again, and Haru deserves better than whatever the hell kind of fate he accidentally landed himself in banger video and banger video game. always a good time with Ben and friends

Can I make a suggestion on what games to cover next, two words my friend, Lisa the-, I know the painful and the joyful have been covered to death but it’s the fan games that really stand out specifically the hopeful and the pointless (specifically the ultimate fix version as it isn’t as covered, seriously the pointless dark route puts snow grave to shame.)

This is such an interesting psychological game, I loved the mechanics, the exploration of the distinct personalities of both characters and their inner conflicts!

I think that the people are living in a simulated world, and you are experiencing a glitch in the program, where it stops working for one, and bugs out and gives you the cartoon world for another.

Hey! Can you try Illusion carnival next. It’s an indie rpg game that is currently in demo, it has a lot of dark twists and I think you would enjoy playing. Edit: also I forgot to say this but great video btw.
