They did explain in the news segment that he is Kaiju No.8 because he’s the the eighth Kaiju considered a significant threat by the Defense Force. They know he’s strong because they saw what he did to the honju, and he got away, which is unheard of, which has drawn further attention.

Is this in manga? Because in the episode i saw, they only mentioned he's the 8th one that received a codename, and the first one to escape. No mention about threat level, unless the subtitle I saw is bad.

@@Banana_Johni dont think the show explained it yet, not really a spoiler tho. He is 8th kaiju with high threats level, categorized by the amount of energy it emits. those special kaijus are numbered

To be honest, I think it probably is a little better explained in the manga, but it’s been a while since I’ve read the very beginning. I don’t think the anime ever mentioned it before the fortitude reading in ep.3, but I think they got a fortitiude reading on Kafka when he first appeared in kaiju form in the manga and it was similarly high. I’m pretty sure all the previous numbered kaiju were also of very high fortitude.

I'm Japanese. As a family name, Shinomiya is so rare and sounds like rich or upper class family. That's why in Kaguya-sama, her family name is Shinomiya.

Kikoru is a great character because not only it's obvious she has talent but also that she has put in the effort in training to be this good. Like yes she gets an advantage for being rich and getting access to the suits early in her life, but that'd mean nothing if she didn't make the most of it. Shes definitely a great character and i love her, but man i did not remember how much I didn't like her at he beginning 😂 Kafla is just great altogether, and i also love Ichikawa and his loyalty to him from day 1 since he became a kaiju :')

I usually would be very irritated by characters like shinomiya, but not so much here. It's prolly because the show has lots of comedy moments, I don't really take her insults seriously. Also maybe it's because kafka doesn't seem too affected by it, and usually just overreact comedically.

I agree with some of the points that you said about the Solo Leveling anime is fair but saying there is no "love" behind the adaptation and just try to make it live up to the hype of the manhwa.. there is clearly care for the series there with the added anime original contents. Not gonna explain what they add to it because I'm sure somebody already told you on discord or somewhere else. I guess that Solo leveling comparison came out after you guys finished watching the last 2 episode of the season. I'm looking forward to it now to see the full discussion about season 1.

About Kikoru : Remember when Leno Ichikawa was shocked to hear that Kikoru's Last name is Shinomiya. And Leno was training hard & researching to become a kaiju defense force member,so he knew many defense member names.... So think why Leno was so shocked to hear that name 😁.....

God i love her, like I've already been spoiled of the manga cause... Fkn manga readers but literally in episode 2 first time seeing her, i already said "yep that's my wife. Don't care for bros wife I'm protecting this brat" Like gooooood she so bratty and rude like idk why I'm so into them!!! But i love spoiled rude bratty girl's like her!!! And the fact she's 1 year older than me makes me go... "Take me!!!"
