Intramuros was epic! The Philippines is full of history, thanks to 'Old Manila Walks' for showing us around. We did the Intramuros walking tour of the wall, museum, a church and loads of history in Manila ⬇ Click 'Show More' to expand ⬇
We highly recommend a walking tour of Intramuros or the Chinese Cemetery with Old Manila Walks, Ivan was great! But he also offers lots of other Manila walks you should look at, check them out here: www.oldmanilawalks.com
Being complete newbies to the Philippines history of the wall and more, we went open minded into this day in Manila as complete a tourist - we left with so much insight into Intramuros aka The Walled City and loved it.

Thats so accurate. We've had Filipinos comment recently saying 'wow, didnt know Manila was like that!'.. thats sort of crazy to us! We're so happy we can show the world, and the Filipinos, that theres much more to see in Manila.

"it was considered as the Paris of Asia?"....another pinoy pride chicken comment...LoL. If the Japanese can rebuild Hiroshima which was blasted, destroyed and literally wiped out from the face of the earth with an atomic bomb, a fate 100x worse than manila during WW2. Why can't they rebuild manila as you just mentioned...."as the Paris of Asia" .....i love pinoy pride chicken, it's very yummy =)

@siyr8760 6 жыл бұрын
Raptor Gonzo The philippines is being developed(or as you say rebuilt),there are a lot of projects by the current administration.I don't blame you for thinking that way,and not believing.But japan had more resources to rebuild the damages compared to the Philippines,and I think there are more significant,or relevant problems that the Philippines faced and is facing know rather than rebuilding what was destroyed.You can only make something that is destroyed more better than what it was,never expect to bring it back as it was before,it's like fixing a broken glass. The out come is never the same as it looked before.Just saying

The history of the Philippines is far more interesting than we hear in the west about wwii. The galleon trade between Manila and Acapulco was the worlds first scheduled trade route. Many customs and cultural festivals come from Mexico not Spain. Manila was built by Spanish, once occupied by British, taken from Philippines by Americans, occupied by Japanese and bombed to nothing again by Americans. The Filipino people have endured much and yet are always resilient. It took 50 years after José Rizal ‘s death to gain true independence.

Intramuros is truly epic and so are you guys! I can tell you're not just the typical travelers/vloggers who would just go straight to the islands and beaches of the Philippines to party, chill & vlog. I appreciate your desire to get to know more of Manila & our city's history. I also admire & appreciate the variety in your content and the quality of your vlogs. I can see I'm not the only one who does with the overwhelming response & positive feedback of your audience in the comments, haha! I guess your efforts were rewarded for featuring the City of Manila and for putting up this high quality & entertaining vlog. Your editing & cinematic shots were absolutely beautiful! I'm curious though if Fort Santiago was not included in your tour of Intramuros. Your tour of Old Manila will not be complete if you haven't seen Fort Santiago, haha! Trust me, Fort Santiago also has so much history & soul and will definitely give you more beautiful & cinematic shots! Next time you're in Intramuros, make sure to check out the Sky Deck View Bar at the top of the The Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros. The Sky Deck can give you a panoramic view of Intramuros and the City of Manila and you can watch the sunset from there and have a romantic dinner thereafter with the Manila skyline & city lights as your background, haha! Sorry I can't help it, I guess I'm an old soul and a hopeless romantic by heart, lol! Btw, you have earned my subscription and very deservedly so!

👍👍I have seen countless videos of Manila and the metro area, but this is the 1st that I've found that showed "Old Manila". I vaguely remember hearing about it once many years ago when I lived in the Phillipines briefly as a child, but never saw it, and only remember the Airport that was there at that time.( I was only like 11 at the time) This is why I love watching these videos, every one is it's own learning experience. 😎

Daneger and Stacey I'm not sure if he's famous. But he's been featured on TV before for his unique way of touring people around Manila. Then, several years ago, he would even wear a costume while doing so--in character, that's how I'd put it. He impresses me as someone who really knows what he's talking about.

When you come back to the Philippines, schedule some time to go to Casa Manila Museum inside Intramuros, the National Museum near Rizal Park, the University of Santo Tomas Museum, the Ayala Museum, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Museum, the Gateway Art Gallery in Cubao, then south to Villa Escudero, the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus, the Quezon Memorial Circle, and La Mesa Dam Eco-Park. It will take you a few days plus side trips into the nearby malls for meals.

Hello Dane and Stacey, it's your subscriber here in California! You guys are so awesome! A very detailed and great vlog you guys have here. This is my third video I've watched of you and subscribed upon stumbling on the second video I saw, which was when you guys were in BGC. From what I have seen so far, this has been the most educational and fun to watch. I really found this interesting because I also learned a lot from it. I used to live there in Manila and moved to Cali when I was 10 (now I'm 38). So watching this brought the nostalgia back when my family once visited Intramuros (back when I didn't really care about the information and just wanted to play with my cousins). Thank you guys again for creating such great content! God bless you both! 👍😊😉

@@raptorgonzo4666 This was an old saying after WWII as far as allied cities are concerned. Obviously, as the victors make history. So as it was, Warsaw was the most destroyed (allied) city in WWII and 2nd allied city was Manila. Of course, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not placed in this same category because they were on the losing (Axis) side. Also, the main difference between Warsaw/Manila and the two Japanese cities was that there was an actual battle that occurred in Warsaw and Manila, block by block, street by street, house by house and hand to hand fighting and many atrocities committed by the Germans on the Polish and the Japanese on the Filipinos. Nagasaki and Hiroshima, on the other hand, were destroyed by an Atomic Bomb, far more destructive but very impersonal as it was dropped by two B-29s. I'm not disagreeing with you as to what city was more destroyed or justifying anything. Just explaining why people mostly western countries believe about Warsaw and Manila in WWII and not accounting for the Japanese two cities destroyed by a far more destructive nature. You can probably add a lot more cities like Tokyo or Dresden into the mix. The common thing is death, destruction and human suffering on all of them.

Hello Daneger and Stacey! I was born in Manila, and I live in Costa Rica. awesome video! i've never been to intramuros nor the chinese cementery. but very informative video over all. those shell windows reminded me so much about my grandparents old house from back in the day. and the chinese cementery probably looked quiet and dead now but come back during holloween and most cemeteries in the philippines usually gets really packed. a time for paying respects to all families that passed on. and usually it almost becomes like a family reunion where everyone gathers and spends time in the musoleum. but for the rest of the year it pretty much stays quiet just how you guys saw it. except for birthdays, anniversaries and most of the time special occassions that family members would come and visit the loved ones that passed on. and that would explain the bathrooms and kitchen in the musoleum... welll ok... im sure you've heard that already but just to kind of give my own take and experience on it.. thanks! awesome videos! safe travels!

The entirety of Manila was like that pre-1940s. Cobbled streets and all. But the city was destroyed almost completely during WW2 by both Japanese and American bombers. Sadly, the city planners didn't elect to rebuild the old Spanish Filipino architecture, instead opting for more "modern" buildings. Their shortsightedness led to the loss of so much culture and history. Intramuros isn't even "Old Manila", it's just the walled part where the fort was located (like a castle town). The only Filipino city which preserved much of those architecture is Vigan in Ilocos. Also Manila was chosen as the capital because it has one of the largest natural harbors in the world - Manila Bay - where galleons from the Acapulco trade are protected from typhoons.

If Manileños will rebuild and restore the old city of Manila and convert it to Heritage city, everyone will see how beautiful Manila is. It will invite tourism and business and will help providing jobs to people. Manila has so much potential because of its heritage and history.

Philippines have a very interesting history as many had laid their eyes on it from different parts of the world and tried to conquer it. It had also been the richest country in southeast asia for many decades before WWII. However, the war caused too much damages and only few remains are evident. People had tried to forget as well.

This kinds of videos are the reason why I prefer watching you compared to the channels that inspired you! AFAIK you two are the only ones that shows some culture and history of the place you visited on your vlogs. Most of the vloggers I know are only showcasing breathtaking scenery and their adventure which is nice and cool. But as a viewer, as much as I enjoy sightseeing, I appreciate it more when they took a lot of effort to learn history and to show glimpses of culture, way of life, what it's like to live there and etc.

Such incredible feedback, thanks Kenneth!! That's a high standard to hold us to, makes us worried we cant keep our position there :P No but seriously, we're pleased you can see we make an effort to share more info when we can. Not always easy, and our travels definitely are a mixture of all sorts as well, but it's cool to know that people notice when we produce a video with more thought, consideration and history behind it. So thanks for saying so :)

I was born in Manila. Been out of the country for over 30 years now! Am living in Rural NZ now . NZ and Philippines are both similar in that they have such varied and amazing geographical landscape! As Finn Snow said in one of his blogs, only New Zealand beats the Philippines in terms of natural beauty! I have seen quite a bit of the world in my younger days and I agree with him. In terms of history and natural disasters though, the Philippines has had experienced some really harsh times compared to NZ! But there is a lot of similarities in both Kiwis and Filipinos in terms of friendliness and respect and close family orientation. Both are also hardworking and have a knack for making do with what's available . Kiwi ingenuity and all that.
@DanegerAndStacey
@DanegerAndStacey 6 жыл бұрын
Thats an awesome back story Jaz! Definitely some similarities between the two, but the Filipino people are MUCH nicer from our perspective haha. Kiwi ingenuity is real, we love that haha. Maybe thats why we vibe so well with the Philippines :) Either way, thanks for watching.
