Well researched video! Did the paralysis occur as a result of the doctor botching the medialization surgery? I know Jon had atrophy before the surgery but this is the first I hear him having vocal cord paresis.

There are many causes of paralysis so doubt we'll ever know... I show some of the causes in the video - which include surgery (could be unrelated to the voice, but damages the nerve), or infection. (See my video on 'Covid Voice - which I suspect may be correlated, but that is just my hypothesis)

I wonder when he first went to an ENT to have this condition diagnosed, and if he had first tried augmentation injections before considering the implant? Also wondering if an augmentation injection was needed on the atrophied fold in addition to the implant that pushes the atrophied fold closer to the center. I guess we likely will never know the answer to these questions.

Yeah I doubt anyone interviewing him would think to ask! (Only reason I dug in is because I’m a nerd and need to know everything I can about whatever I can 😂)

I have the same thing. I was a singer for 17 years they think it was a virus.

Thank you for sharing... Did you get the implant and do you still sing? I wonder how many similar are out there because viral infections are known to cause nerve issues, and apparently a virus never 'leaves' the body, we just have to manage it... I do a lot of health hack/bio-hacking to keep my little 'viral homewreckers' in check.

@@RockYourBestVocals great point I have no clue how many are impacted. However when I saw the Bon Jovi article I was like “ I knew it” bc I saw how he was talking in an interview and swallowing and it was identical to what I was doing. Never got the surgery but I still sing. Just not nearly as much as I used to. I did speech and singing therapy to help me with my techniques. You basically have to learn to sing all over again. I do a lot more head singing now. But If you do the wrong thing you can lose your voice quickly. It just feels like the muscles over work around the vocal chords and get tired so fast and the control over your voice is limited when you don’t have good air support. Also, the day after singing my neck and jaw muscles get super sore/ tired bc I have to manipulate the air to accommodate for the chord issue. I’d be willing to talk with you about it if you’d like to know more. Tom Kiefer from Cinderella also has vocal chord paresis issues. Videos can be found on KZfaq. After seeing your other video around the surgery and that lady’s recovery it makes me want to get a surgery bc I miss singing like I used to.

I'm sorry, you keep asking and YES indeed :) These are both on my list to do... I shall return to my 'how to sing like' series very soon because there are SOOOO MANY that I still want to do! (it's just a matter of time for me!). I'm working on a couple of NEW courses which are taking much of my time... Apologies to keep you waiting and I appreciate your patience..
