Coastwatch follows Fishery Officers from The Ministry for Primary Industries, NZ Airforce and Navy personnel, and the Maritime Police. Greenstone gets up close and personal to find out what’s involved in patrolling and enforcing the law that protects our coastlines, water-ways and billion dollar Kai-moana industries.
We also follow the men and women volunteering for Northland Regions Coastguard, and the Northland Electricity Rescue Helicopter. Tasked with responding to mayday calls, medical emergencies, on-water breakdowns and accidents, they keep our waterways, and those on them, safe. The Maritime Police, along with the Police National Dive Squad, are also on high alert for any maritime emergencies.

Gone are the days when you could go out fishing without worrying about the game warden over your shoulder harassing you about the one legal fish you are allowed to keep as a white person, meanwhile you watch natives pull up fish by the net full with no limit or size regulation. Unwanted species are dumped in the bush and not processed, but that's apparently ok because they are the "Kings fish" and the "Crown" says so.

NO. All they get is a fine and release to get caught again. It's all about money. If they really care about fish and wildlife then they would prosecute and these people in jail or prison for a year or two. That will stop them. Make them think twice. To much money to be made by keep catching them. Wake up and see the big picture.

Is that fishing vessel seaworthy? At 0.55 it looks like most of the hulls external layer of steel on the port side has rusted away. If that bloke has people working for him how is that a safe workplace? The skipper and his crew made absolute mugs of themselves remonstrating about the cameraman. Hopefully they have some friends who can get through to them.

How weird it would be if people were getting slammed to the ground by fish and wildlife? No im sure if that kind of force was needed, they would call the real police. Even if it was the real police, An american criminal would make these guys shit their pants. The average american methhead is above their pay grade. In america, a traffic stop can go from a cordial interaction, to a dead cop with a bullet in their face in just a couple seconds. Why dont you go become a cop and be the change you think we need? If it’s anything like our system in America, it is a vertically integrated system where large fish market, billionaires and millionaires on the quota, and actually make more sitting on their butts in front of a computer selling their quota to actual fisherman that make $.50 a pound or more less Than the person selling the quota before expenses and time.. it’s pretty messed up when you’re talking eight dollars a pound wholesale and the guy you’re selling to you had to buy the quota for 450 a pound and that fat cat never gets out of his chair never spends a dollar just gets free fish plus $.50 a pound… the fisherman, make nothing other than a sore back.. but that’s the way of capitalism. I guess I love capitalism, but crony capitalism where certain rich people are given as much as 8% of the total snapper allotment for the country like the guy in Galveston Texas who happens to have his own restaurant of fine dining and seafood market so he’s getting his fish for free plus $.50, then cooking it selling one fillet for $40 it’s freaking astounding, the fundamental unfairness.. it’s the same exact model they use for medical marijuana in Florida and our governor as much of a liar as he is said that it was Paramount to a state and enforced drug cartel by only allowing seven companies to handle marijuana of any kind from seed to Customer.. now that’s organized crime why is it not organized crime to do it to the fisherman.. Factors our season has been cut down to 30 days at times and if you’re going on the weekend that’s maybe four days a month if the weather is good I got two snapper last year!!!!!! because of quotas for rich people

Due to global warming the snow crab season hasn't been opened for several seasons. In some places the salmon season is only hours long. Many places are seeing a total collapse of their fish stocks. There are plenty of people who don't think it's true but those who fish for a living will tell you that it's true.

@@Jonathan.D I have a commercial RS license we have seen the decline of cobia we lived and what was the greatest place to catch them in the world during their spawning migration. The last two world records have come off the coast of Pensacola since the BP oil spill. Nothing has been the same the 90s and 2000s were the hay day . There’s no proof that the BP oil spill is responsible because fish go through cycles just like everything else on the planet even human population it does not mean it is global warming. Our planet has gone through environmental temperature changes and geological changes from its formation.. so technically, there is always global climate change. This year was a really bad year for Mullet fishing three years ago was awesome. It doesn’t mean that global warming caused there to be a lot less fish to the point that we could not pay the bills on black Mullet and it was only winter time silver Mullet that saved the year usually silver Mullet is a small part of our income, but for some reason the silver Mullet were more than abundant more than usual which was awesome, but was that also because of global warming? my point is, it’s all anecdotal things go through cycles, especially nature.

@shannonfishkill8957 Entire islands in the Pacific are being washed away due to the rising sea level. These islands have existed for thousands of years. You can deny it all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that it's happening. Having a piece of paper that grants you commercial fishing rights doesn't mean you know more than the rest. My family has lived on the Gulf coast of Florida since the 1820s. We have documented and seen first-hand the changes that have taken place. The changes of the last 20 years are like nothing seen before. The vast number of hurricanes alone is all the proof one needs. You don't want to accept it because you make your living from taking the last of what's left. As for the BP oil spill, there's plenty of data that shows what damage it caused to the ecosystem. That spill is tiny compared to the total amount of pollution and greenhouse emissions that are being produced. Do I think the world is going to end tomorrow? No, but in the next couple of decades, we will experience changes that no one wants to accept. That's because people like yourself don't want to accept the truth that's right in front of you.

They look like porgy but are more like snapper when it comes to regulations. It's rare to see porgy to get that big on the eastern US. See what the fine for a catch of red snapper like that on the Gulf Coast will get you. Each fish can result in multiple fines. I saw a guy get 4 charges for each lobster he had. Undersized, out of season, spearing, and removing the tails. They took all his equipment and his vehicle. That's they only way to stop some people. Especially if they try the "No English" game or are know it all Yankees.

@Jonathan.D
@Jonathan.D 3 ай бұрын
@webmoss My friend in Australia said the Vietnamese and the Muslims do the same there. The game wardens there have all the regs in their languages. So they give them a copy and fine them accordingly. The FWC officers have the same issues with the Cubans. I saw a video where a Cuban got massive fines for all the stuff he had. Plus, they took his gear and car. They need to include multiple year and lifetime fishing bans for those who do this more than once. They have to learn that it's not ok. When I lived in Vietnam, the government would have a law, but they didn't explain why they made it. It's important for people to understand why they need to obey a law.
