My buddy Eddie passed away December 15 this year when we went in for a x ray and the doctor said it was a degenerative bone disease and the only thing keeping his teeth in his mouth were his soft tissues and his bones in his face were mush. Eddie was an awesome dog he had lots of energy and loved to cause mischief he was one of my best friends and it has been rough without him the house just is not the same. He was a big part of the family and I really miss him, he was only 8 years old and I just wish there was something we could have done.

It sucks so bad.. dogs deserve to live longer they don't deserve it 😤 🤧 😪 😔 😢

I look after the dog of my best friend. She was out playing with the dog week ago. Suddenly the dog screamed and could not stand up. The vet saw on the x-ray that she had 2 broken bones in her right hind leg and a growth that they highly suspect to be bone cancer. The dog needed amputation the same day. It broke my friends heart because she already has a really hard time atm and needed to go in a clinic for treatment herself a few days later. She felt like she let her dog down but it was 100% necessary she did go NOW. So i look after the dog for her and update her. We wait for the results if it is really cancer, should come in any day now. The good thing is the dog does very good with 3 legs. She walks as if she always only had 3 and the wound heals perfect without problems. This video really helped me to get a good base understanding of what the diagnose would/will mean. My dog got it two weeks ago. My rottweiler is 10 year old (really ancient for a rottweiler). The vet does not want to cut the leg because the dog would not survive. Difficult times but we don't Daisy to suffer.

Unfortunately, my 12yo basset hound got osteosarcoma on her left back leg. She’s only 18kg. The vet told us it’s a quite rare type of osteosarcoma, mainly for her breed. My heart is shattered. Her oncologist vet explained to us exactly the same things you said in this vídeo. Thank you so much for the explanations.

Our Rottie/Basset mix was just diagnosed. Its in the rear femur. You can see low bone density (mothing). I was told by my vet and the oncologist that once bone shows obvious signs of cancer, it is 98% likely that it has spread microscopically to the lungs or other areas. I was told even if there are no signs via x-ray of spread, amputation and chemo would only extend the life 6-8 months. And they would not be happy months for our doggo. I understand the need to practice medicine and discover advanced treatments...but I don't understand the advice from so many vets to spend 10K + on surgery and chemo just to extend the life of the dog 6-8 uncomfortable/painful months. Tough decisions.

Thank you for the information. My 8 year old Springer Spaniel, Daisy, has a hard swelling below her rear right ankle. She has had X rays, FNA and a biopsy. The vet suspects osteosarcoma (some 'moth eaten' bone is apparent). The X rays show no detectable metastases. The FNA came up negative for sarcoma, although I know these can be false negatives. We are now waiting for the biopsy results. I feel slightly frustrated as from the information I have heard and see it seems prompt surgery is important, yet this process is taking weeks from the initial X rays. Should I be doing anything different? I'm in the UK.

What is causing this increase in osteo-sarcoma? My 9 yr old large standard poodle was diagnosed this May1st. At first we thought that she had sprained her front ankle/discus. I was shocked to et the cancer diagnosis. Initially, we did radiation therapy and pain killers, but two days ago finally had her front leg amputated. by a board certified surgeon. So far we've spent $7,500 - no chemotherapy yet. . I wish I had gone straight to surury when first detected early May, but I needed time to adjust to such a change. She was lovely to watch when she would run, and loosing her leg was hard to accept.. Her treatment has been through our Vet and State University Vet Oncology Hospital (NC State), and a board certified Surgeon.

My 10 year old GSD has a very significant hard firm lump between the top of his right ear and middle/top of his head. Ultrasound done and it showed it could not be aspirated. Waiting for blood results still. I am going to ask the veterinarian if they could do chest xrays in the meantime while waiting for oncology specialist. Would you recommend chemotherapy for a dog with chondrosarcoma? He have his leg amputated results of histopathology are most likely chondrosarcoma with small chance of chondroblasto osteosarcoma, unfortunately they are not able to see a grade of the tumor that's why they recommended carboplatin 4 sessions. I wanted to know about bone cancer in dogs because about a year ago my dog had passed away because of this cancer.

My almost 10 year old boy 'Turbo' has a palm size mass in his ankle...he has been limping which has been increasing.I have been giving him Rimadyl which doesn't stop the limping but gives him a little more comfort. I have an appointment Jan 5th for an xray...if it's positive we plan , sadly, to put him down as he is not a candidate for amputation...he weighs about 185lbs. MY heart is broken already!

The survival chart you posted. Is it a 5% survival rate for 1 year only surgery and about 13% survival rate for 1 year with surgery & chemotherapy? What is the survival rate of continuing live after 1 years old? What is the approximate time frame you have left with a dog diagnosed with bone cancer without treatment?

How early should the diagnosis be in order to save the animal? At what point is it too late to save the dog? Our dog has osteosarcoma in front knees and was misdiagnosed for several months with arthritis. We have been told that it's likely spread but no ct scan beside the knees was done. The vet said it's too late

My 9 uear old standard goldendodle started limping out of nowhere from front rigjt wrist/paw. Took him to vet this past sunday and did x rays. Vet was almost 100% sure it was bone cancer by looking at xrays. They did a biopsy on sunday too and they called me Wednesday with results. They said he has no cancer, and that has a benign tumor in his wrist. I have another appointment this Monday for a check up. Right now he is on mess for 10 days and he is doing fine bit still limping a little bit. Will they do surgery to remove it cause obviously it's causing him discomfort. There is no need for amputation right??

Thank you. My 12 year old (100 lbs) has a mineralizing growth on the crest of his skull between his ears. It is growing at a very fast rate. We had it aspirated and x rays done. The patho labs came back with cells suggested to be osteosarcoma... the growth is on top of the skull and is bone like. It’s not growing towards the brain... the xrays also detected a large mass on top of his heart (that is enlarged) and the radiologist thinks it is most likely right side heart failure? But they aren’t sure if it’s the heart with the mass or the top portion of the lungs... but the two (heart mass and head bump) could be isolated. Due to Buddy being 12, and has both masses... the vets personal opinion (I asked for it) is to keep him comfortable and ask for pain meds if needed. We will do monthly phone calls. Life expectancy is 4-6 months. I’m afraid to do chemo because I don’t want him to suffer that at his age. He’s happy. Loving. And not aware of anything. There isn’t swelling (like the leg joints) but just a large growing mass on his head that feels attached and hard as bone. Would you agree (as a specialist and animal lover) that 12 years old with two masses (heart and head) the best treatment is no treatment? Thank you...

My grandma's bulldog who is 11 years old who was just diagnosed with bone cancer. The vet said that the bone cancer is bleeding and that she is anemic and her heart rate is twice what is should be. I don't think that she would be able to survive getting her leg amputated, and I don't know how long she has got. How long do you think she has got?

My vet told us today My standard goldendoodle probably has cancer in his right wrist and she sent xrays to specialist but she said that xrays specialist is gonna recommends a biopsy to make surebits cancer. Options are to amputate and dog will live a little over a year

My ❤️ Trinity had lower Jaw Bone cancer mainly on the left side. We did NOT put her thru jaw removal surgery or chemo. We did palliative care managing her pain. She was about 10 yrs old when diagnosed. She lived for 16 months thereafter. She began having more pain and eating less and less. Then she began to experience limb lameness in her back legs and had labored nasal breathing. At that point I made the detrimental decision that continues to haunt me. It's been a few days. I'm so unsure how to be with her in heaven. Feeling so stressed, lost and alone. Hope this information helps anyone else going thru this process. May peace be with you all. ✝️

My thirteen-year-old boxer pitbull had an x-ray and they say it's cancer on her rear leg upper she acts really well though the doctor told me he thought he'd see me in 2 months to put her down and it's been almost double that the leg is really big but she's still smiling and she'll swim in the lake every day going up and down hills to get there but she just doesn't act like cancers killing her it's the leg that's just blown up. Is there any other non malignant tumor that could be in there and could I remove her leg without radiation

My rottweiler was suspected to have bone cancer in rear left leg shin. We had a fine needle aspirate done. It can back inconclusive. Did a chest x ray in lugs and no detection. Found this due to a acl tear wonder what i should do vet suggests pallative care.

How much is that surgery to remove front limb? Also can we kill the cancer before amputation?

My dog Ace's lameness progressed this year. Recently I noticed his hind leg is bending inward, though he can still climb up the stairs very slowly. The vet said it's arthritis. Im still worried it's bone cancer. I lost my first dog to cancer and i still grieve over her. I don't know how old Ace is. I found him outside my apartment in October 2017. He was abandoned. I noticed he was limping a little. I fed him every night. It took him 3 months to trust a human. He decided on his own live with me. I got kick out of the apartment because of him. I couldn't take him to a vet. I was not in good position financially. I had to find a new apartment where they allow dogs. This year I took him to the vet to treat his skin allergies, heart burn, and have his leg checked. The vet said it's arthritis. I still worry about cancer.

Hi my 12 year old female Jack Russel had a lump on her mammary area and the vet said to do removal of it the surgery was quite a large incision as well as two pea like lumps they found futher down her belly so she's in a contained area and cone around her head thats depressing her she thinks shes getting punished with me putting it in straight after food but then the vet called and said it was mammary glad osteosarcoma and I on Friday we go to get stitches removed and she said they wouldn't do blood work now it's about palliative care now and she hasn't got a limp or anything the only thing is she gets a cramp once every 6 months past 3 years in her back leg that last about 3 minutes but I don't get why they would not do blood work could there be a chance she hasn't has it spread as I'm a single mother with no support from my ex partner with cost i saved 1200 for the lump removal and was ask if i want a blood test too for her to see if it spread the day of the surgery I really wanted to but I was told i needed 1200 n had saved three weeks of hardly having a cent to live if I got told I would of sold my fridge if thats what it took but they now say no point in a blood test I don't understand why a sending the lump to pathology can give us the only result to expect to soon lose my baby girl and just keeping her comfortable shes so young spirted and seems full of life I'm not sure if I need a second opinion or if I should be grateful to the vet or a little angry as she will spend a few more werk healing and its been close to two already and shes been stuck inside not aloud to jump or run just rest it's seems unfair if I knew there was no hope I wouldn't of put her through this , any advice would be so kindly appreciated with so much thanks for any help at all 🥺

My shepherd today had her testing done; knocked her out and viewed her lungs, abdomen and took samples. The lungs and everything look clear. Tomorrow we get the results. She is limping and the suspect area is the right shoulder, the neck of the scapula. :(
