Nekromantia is probably my least favourite story of all time. Hell Bent I can appreciate the lore arc subversion, timeless children has Sachs's Master. There's nothing I like about Nekromantia, the characters I usually like are disrespected, the plot is a rip off of Caves of Androzani but seemingly just assumed that the reason Androzani was good was because it was "dark".

I agree with you, Sam. Just tackling traumatic subjects doesn't make a story sleazy. It's all up to how the writer handles it, if handled well, it can be a mature story, if handled badly... it's Torchwood season 1. In fact, one of my favorite TV shows is Doom Patrol, and there's some fucked up shit in it. And there's Timothy Dalton. Love me some Timothy Dalton. It's also the show that convinced me that Alan Tudyk would've been an amazing pick for the Master.

I know the story is probably not good, but I honestly really like the idea of Susan being a descendant of the Rassilon, and someone adopted by the Doctor. For one, I like the idea that the Doctor isn't anyone important in the Time Lord society, but Susan is, because it's not what you'd expect based on how we perceive the Doctor and Susan, but there is no reason why she couldn't be. If say a knight was tasked with taking care of the princess, you would see the knight as the person in charge, even though the princess outranks him, she is younger, and he has to take care of her. And I also have nothing against the idea that Susan is adopted. The real family are the people who actually love you, not the people who made you. Doctor is her grandfather not because he is her mother's father, but because he takes care of her, and loves her.

Superior Beings has Peri almost become a Findus Frozen TV Dinner for some hungry space werefoxes, who then decide to use her in a breeding experiment to create a human farm.

I really don't like the idea that the Master was an evil supervillain already in his student years. I feel like the Master becoming who he is when we first meet him should be a gradual progression. Nobody's born evil. Except Daleks.

I despise Nekromanteia. None of the side characters were even remotely likeable. All of the horrible events? Not only do they come out of nowhere, but they also don't go anywhere either - Peri sees a friend die in a horrible way and is clearly traumatised, but then about 30 seconds later she's back to making silly jokes and wisecracks. As far as I remember, the Doctor and friends don't even interact with the B plot (involving an evil CEO) - it's just the unlikable side characters having a conflict we don't care about and that our main cast barely knows about. It feels like the author wrote a bunch of upsetting scenes, and then did the vaguest of efforts to link them.

I can't believe you forgot to mention the Seventh Doctor had a vampire companion named Olla. I mean, I know everyone forgets Olla, but due to an abnormal introduction to classic Doctor Who I've known about that character for longer than I've known about Mel, Bernice, and possibly even Ace, and as such I think everyone needs to be aware of her. I also read Birth of A Renegade before I ever saw any classic Doctor Who episodes (except for maybe An Unearthly Child, The Daleks, and the TV movie). So that weird forgotten 80s story is foundational lore to me.

I hope that we don't have to go though an 18 mouth (let alone a 15 year one with a failed pilot and a whole load of other media to fill the void) hiatus. That would be just too long to wait! That said however, tank you for uploading this wonderful little series, it's actually gone and made me want to seek out and listen to the Big Finish Audio Dramas (by using a highly dangerous method that only I can carry out safely but yet is extremely 'profitable' and useful for those seeking wisdom if you get what I mean) as you've just got me curious to listen to all the 'madness' contained in them as I have only ever listened to a somewhat limited number of them in the past, chiefly Dalek related ones, all of which I have very much enjoyed. Not so sure on the books, some of them seem a little too intense for me in places, I have read a small number of them here and there but I might perhaps read some of the short story collections, but aside from them, there not really for me. The old Target books, yes I will one day read them (there is a whole ton of stuff that you could talk about where they differ from the TV stories that they are based on, the adaption of 'The Daleks' chiefly the opening chapters, would be a good place to start) as there are quite a few that I have read in the past all of which I have enjoyed, but some of them I've yet to read, or haven't done so in more than a decade. As for the comics, well I do LOVE the DWM comic strip and I have read all of the stories collected in the TPBs (I've collected them, off and on, ever since they begun with the 'Iron Legion' TPB back in the 2000s, so I do have a full set of them, and I have in fact not long ago only just 'caught up' with them thanks in no small part to your videos, even though I already had every intention of doing so beforehand) plus a few more besides, plus (partly due to DWCC but mostly due to the Whopix page) I've been reading though all of the old TV Comic/Countdown/TV Action/TV Comic (lets just call them 'Pollystyle') strip stories as well, so it was cool to hear someone talk about those, I would like to hear more of what you have to say about the old 1960s Dalek strips, a series which I just adore and which frankly should be reprinted again now that there's a whole (Iron) Legion of fans who missed out on the 1994 reprint and who may feel unable to resort to the method I've used in order to read those wonderful strips. However as for the IDW strips and Titan strips I'll have to admit that I actually overlooked those ones (much like the 'Doctor Who Adventures' strips of which I don't really think I'll be bothering with, unless I run out of other stuff to have a gander at) and from your videos, among those of other KZfaqrs, I'm somewhat intrigued by them, so I think I'll be looking out for them, as they look interesting. As I've said before, 'Doctor Who' Canon, in my personal opinion, works best if you think of it as working in a multiverse, yes there are multiple timelines and what not, but often it's best to think of each and every tale put out by licenced individuals and/or companies and the BBC as having the potential as being set in any number of separate universes, in universes the events shown in any given story could play out exactly the same as in other universe, in other cases the said events could play out in any number of different ways, minor or major, or indeed some events might play out in some universes, but not in others. Hence everything is canon, it's just not always set in the same universe. I'll also add that the medium that any story from the canon doesn't always indicate 'which' universe it is supposed to set in, but like before I've always considered the events shown in the BBC TV show, BBC Minisodes (although I do a few exceptions here and there) BBC spin off TV shows and BBC animations (not all of them you understand), plus (as a personal note) the bulk of the DWM strips (but not all of them) and a number of the Big Finish dramas (but not all of them) and lastly a number of the BBC audios (but NOT all of them you understand) to take place in a 'Prime' universe, for which is the model that I set for the other universes in the Doctor Who multiverse, all other media while amusing 'belongs' to other 'versions' of Our Program. Anyway, thank you so much for your videos, they really are very informative and often quite funny as I've often giggled along with you, often when you talk about stuff that I know it does amuse me to hear your take on them. Happy Times and Places.

Oh yeah, I didn't know Necromentia was so hated before listening to it. I remember the cliffhanger and that it had a weird ending, but not much more about it. [tw: rape] Speaking of which isn't there this dodgy scene in the last VNA where Eight is restained somehow and Benny kisses him non-consentually. Then the scene ends very suggestively, which would actually mean that the Doctor got raped by a companion.

I do think that Nekromanteia isn’t the worst story out there, but it’s definitely one of the most sleazy treatments of one of my favourite casts. It just goes to show that Big Finish isn’t the perfect idealised version of Classic Who people think it is.
