I took lessons from Big John Carter for 2.5 years and he moved my appreciation and style on enormously during this period. He was an absolute delight to work with. I miss working with him to this day. This is an extremely gifted individual, who had a remarkably difficult upbringing. He dedicated himself to boogie woogie at an early age, although he didn't own a piano. So how did he practice? He played in pubs (although under-age) until he was thrown out or someone better took over. He also played in schools while the school cleaners were doing their business .. until he was yet again thrown out, because they wanted to go home after they'd done their work. He didn't actually own his own piano until well into his early 20s.

This makes me so happy listening. I don't have a piano. There is one at church though. I wonder if that would be a sin?

Who out there thinks big Johns voice sounds remarkably similar to the late great Ian Dury! Long live the blockheads, brilliant musicians.

Makes me wish I still lived in the uk and could see John Carter in concert. Pure genius, genius. I’m no musician but it just seems to flow in big John.

Hi Dr. K! Are all of these played using some variation of the blues scales? I want to try improvising!
@playtheblues22643 жыл бұрын
Some of the notes are in the blues scale, but often in chords of the chord that the left hand is playing at that time
