Great video/review Guy. I do own a few books on the Aztecs and other Pre-Colombian cultures, particularly the Maya. Pre-Columbian studies is a dynamic and exciting field with new discoveries happening all the time, along with new interpretations of long-accepted findings of previous scholars. This sounds like a great book. btw I just bought your book 'Populus' - reading it now and loving it !

Thanks for the review. Heard the author interviewed on the BBC History Mag podcast a few years ago and put her on the TBR. My friend, Abril, confirms plátano is a catch-all for banana without distinction of variety. I always thought it meant plantains.

Thanks Guy, for another interesting review. As I know almost nothing about Mexican history, I was surprised to learn that "Aztec" is a bit of a made-up name. A suppose "Aztec Civilization" is like term "Byzantine Empire", that was invented in the late 19th century to describe the continuing Eastern Roman Empire after the last Western Roman Emperor was overthrown.

Will the world end before I can read it? Oh wait: that is Mayan myths.
