As a plus sized woman it always makes me feel safe on your channel when you, a non plus sized woman, call out fatphobia. Thank you 🥺❤ In general, I rarely read more than the first book in a series. I feel like i'm always getting burned for it if I read the rest. A good girls guide to murder, Scythe, Anne of Green Gables.... I wish so much I'd just stopped at book one for these.

I like the idea of thinking of some books as "it was a standalone for me" even when it's a series. I have Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson on my TBR shelf which I haven't read yet, but I like the idea of perhaps just reading that first book if I feel like it and not feeling obligated to continue even if it's a good book. Series are a big time commitment to read.

I haaaated Before the Coffee Gets Cold. I think it was in my bottom 3 books I read last year. *That* trope was one reason, but also the pacing was just so frustrating. It felt like it could have been 20 pages and the same amount of stuff would have happened. I really liked Blindsight, but also don't have any interest in picking up Echopraxia. One is enough...

Good for you deciding that your time is more valuable and to not waste your time with book series that give you nothing. What a relief. Yes, in a way it is sad but when you have so many books that you are enjoying, why not devote your time to what will make you happy. I read the first book in the Outlander series, loved it, but I really can't see myself being tied to all those books-I unhauled them and never looked back. There is so much out there that fits me and is a one book or two book story. And that would work for me. Also, I do not want to limit myself to just one author when there are so many out there waiting for me to discover them.

I read Beartown by Fredrik Backman last year and enjoyed it, but don't see myself continuing the series. I'm still on the fence about continuing the Teixcalaan series. I gave up on the Night Angel series by Brent Weekes. I read the first two books in the series because someone gifted me a nice bind-up edition, but the level of misogyny, sexism, sexual abuse is disturbing and not handled well I pushed through the second book because of one character and one character only, and this is a series with multiple POVs, and he was only somewhat decent to character to follow, even though everything going on around him was horrific.

I totally understand why you do not want to continue with the Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi. I have decided to go on with it once the next instalment is published. But this is because I had really enjoyed the first half and the banter between Amina and her old friends. But the 2nd half was weak in my opinion, it felt too magically whimsical compared to the more serious tone of the first half. Unfortunately I had the same issue with the final book of the Daevabad trilogy by the same author. Loved the first two books and how they dealt with political intrigues but the final book really gave a different, almost far fetched vibe that I did not like. I really did not like Before the coffee gets cold either. I expected a more sci-fi tone considering the premise but it was really boring. And yes it being written by a man was SOO obvious. 😂

Imma be honest, I hated Before the Coffee Gets Cold so much that I was not tempted in the slightest by the sequels. And they’re such pretty books! Just no. I’m abandoning Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy after book two. I found the books quite fun when I thought it was a wintery adventure with balls and boys, but the love interest and the relationship did not sit with me at all. "F Arthur, I just want more witches." What a mood. I think that's most of us at this point with Arthur retellings. I think I'm going to give up on Before the Coffee gets Cold. You're one of many reviewers say it just becomes redundant. I didn't love it when I read it but I do still think about it but not enough to care about the rest. I have plenty of other books to read.

Also not continuing “Fourth Wing” and no plans to read any other “Before the Coffee Gets Cold” beyond the first book, which didn’t really work for me. I mean, how is it possible that so many people have had life-altering things happen to them in the same little out-of-the-way café? 🤷‍♀️

I won’t be finishing The Book of Dust trilogy; if the third book ever comes out that is. The Secret Commonwealth was boring as hell. I’ll just stick with His Dark Materials.

I finished the third Louise Penny a few days ago and I'm done. It hurts since I acquired all of them over a few years (used except for 2). I did flip through some of the later ones and the writing style seemed similar. Happy to make room on my shelves though!😄

I also had the Beartown series and I couldn't even finish the first. I just didn't like the writing style.

What trope in the Coffee gets cold?

The reason Hyperion is disliked by many is because its the setup book. The Fall of Hyperion is the masterpiece, its all the collective pay off. I gave up on: Wax and Wayne Green Bone Saga Books of Babel

It’s a pity you won’t be reading the sequel to The Maid, as The Mystery Guest was the better book, imo. It gave Molly more agency and had a more satisfying mystery than the first, I think. Oh well~ 😅🤷🏻‍♀️

Not me having as a challenge to finish Blindsight (started a few weeks ago on audible) and the sequel 🙃I thought it was a barrier language that i do not understand anything, guess not. Just another quebecois reading in english in the best of her capabilities.

The sequel to Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone is better than the first book plot wise, but the humor is the same so if you don't like it you probably won't like the sequel

What is the trope from Before the Coffee Gets Cold? I’ve never heard anyone say anything negative about that series.

I have read the entire Hyperion Cantos. Rather liked the first 2 books. The third one was slugish but with potential. But the forth? OMG… could have been wrapped up in about 150 pages instead of the 800+ that it had. It took me a lot of wine and good music to get through that one. So if you thin Hyperion is bad, you have dodged a bullet, a mine and a bomb..

She Who Became the Sun was so disappointing. I almost felt like it was written by two different people because it was so refreshing and intriguing at first and then became so... Meh.
