This was useful as a starter for me. I've picked up a large piece of kelp from the beach and wonder whether I can use it as a book cover. I couldn't think how it could be prevented from drying and going brittle. Your comment about boiling and stretching is useful. Thank you.

If you lacquer it too with mod podge it will protect it from becoming brittle!

OK thanks. Does it still need to be mounted on board with the modgepodge, or could you use it loose, like a piece of fabric? Would it stay flexible in other words?

@@cathymccall9703 it gets very stiff with laquer so you don't necessarily need to mount it- you could just use it structurally maybe. Try experimenting with other kelp pieces to get the hang of it first.
