This is a really good and wide-ranging interview. I liked how it discusses the purpose of young adult novels and how they provide behavioral guideposts to help young people (and adults) figure out their 'self' and their particular path in life.

Such a nice, educated discussion! 37 minutes went by fast. I probably shouldn't have been surprised at all how many motifs of Babymetal songs found their way into the novel plot. Sadly, I can not share the optimism expressed by Chris and Christen towards the end of the video. Not about the change in human nature, not about the state of the planet and certainly not about global politics. As far as I am concerned, we are losing ground in all three of those aspects. But then I am German, and we are known to enjoy gloomy thoughts to an extent.

Yeah, I'm afraid I'm right there with you, though I'm Northern English and similarly dour of outlook. Some of what I see happening in the US today baffles, outrages, and terrifies me. I think we are going backwards.
