The funny thing about slang for me is it's always invented by teens so it always annoys and bewilders anyone older, myself included. I can just imagine a kid in the 70's saying something is "groovy" and their parents getting mad "Why can't you just say it's the bee's knees like a normal person!"

Lot of popular slang comes from black and also gay people. Rappers amplify a lot of black slang and from there it hits pop culture. Sus, bet, lit, slay, bruh got popular with white Americans like 10yrs later.
