When you punch a man it means you understand (and in some way respect) that he has the ability to fight back and hurt you, so you punch him to hurt him and stop the fight as soon as possible. When you slap a man it means you feel there is no form of aggression he can present that is a threat to you, thats why you can slap him and walk away or slap him and scream on him. When you punch a man you square up because you know if you didnt knock him out your now in a real fight, which on some level means you respect that man enough to know "he can fight back".

A slap is the oldest offense 👋 in human History. It's not to completely hurt you? Is just enough of an impact for pain but more to offend and humiliate you. The pimps did it to the prostitutes, Masters to the slaves, Kings to the peasants. In the Will wild west times when they challenge you to a duel and shoot it out when the clock rang, it started with a slap. And if the challenger felt too high and felt his opponent was too low he would take off his glove and slapped him across the face with it. He wouldn't even want to touch the other person.
