Watch Full Interview: • Boosie on Dwight Howar...
Part 6: • Boosie: Will Smith Sla...
Part 8: • Boosie on Confronting ...
--------
In this clip, Vlad and Boosie discussed their top gangster movies, with Boosie expressing a strong preference for "Menace to Society" over "Boyz n the Hood." Vlad, however, had spoken with the Hughes brothers, the directors of "Menace to Society", who believed "American Me" was a superior film. This discussion ignited an exploration of the real-life drama that surrounded "American Me," including inaccuracies that culminated in violence and fatalities. The most controversial scene in "American Me" depicted the rape of a Mexican Mafia leader, an event claimed to be untrue. This fabrication resulted in actor Edward James Olmos receiving death threats, required him to constantly be armed and under the protection of security, and cost ten movie affiliates their lives. Vlad and Boosie condemned Olmos' decision to include the questionable scene as highly disrespectful.

Boyz in the Hood is better to me because the script was deeper and we got the see the POV of different guys we knew from our hoods. Tre had both of his hard working parents in his life, Doe Boy and Ricky had a hood mama with different dads, Brandi was that cute girl from the neighborhood. And all of them had different paths in life.

It had great character development so you really felt for the characters in the movie. Which is why when Ricky died everyone was shocked. When Kane died we was like "uh okay,,we knew this was gonna happen." Menace had no character development at all.

@@newclothes8165 agreed and Menace is great but as an audience we’re waiting like “Are they going to end up getting killed or end up in prison?”. It did show the gritty side of what most people fortunately aren’t privy to but Tupac was right…why not show how Sharif changed his life and became a muslim? Menace relied more on action while Boyz in the Hood had a better script and character development. Both are classics regardless.

Menace to society just showed one perspective but it showed it well. Boyz in the hood showed a father absent as well that’s what I’m saying it really showed every single perspective of people living in the hood even a woman’s perspective. Ice Cube and Ricky had no father present. Doe boy was the gangster son and Ricky was the athlete trying to make it out the hood through sports, Cuba was the one who had a father present but still surrounded by the elements of the hood every single time he step out the house. Menace to Society just showed Ice Cubes part in depth and it did it well it’s basically if the Boyz in the hood was solely about Doe Boy it would Menace to society.

@@GodMode369 I feel you, but it's more than just about having a father. If Furious was just like Caine's father, Tre would've been a criminal, too. Tre had good parents... Caine had a junkie mother and a murderous father. The problem today is that a lot of fathers are like Furious, but the mothers aren't like Riva, who was Tre's mother. If Boyz was filmed in 2013 or 2023, Riva would've moved out of state with Tre and blocked all contact with Furious. So it's really about BOTH parents.

O-Dog was just a trigger happy teen who is basically a serial killer but Doughboy turned to life of crime because his mother neglected him and treated him like shit because she resented his father and she favored and showed more love to Ricky and even though he was jealous of Ricky he still would protect him and after getting revenge for his murder he realized it made nothing better he was just continuing the cycle of violence and he accepted that the path he took would lead to his demise

Both films were entertaining and insightful. With that being said, John Singleton created a film showing both sides of the spectrum when it comes to family dynamics and street politics. Furious' role of representing a positive male figure was constant throughout the film. Singleton helped us understand the importance of having the positive influence of both parents in your life. Whereas everyone in Menace To Society were misguided with the exception of Sharif who had his dad present but his dad was only in two scenes of the film which made the film feel more like the typical "hood tale". John Singleton actually set the bar for these urban films and coined the phrase "hood films" or "hood classics". I salute both directors.
