Thanks! I woke up last week to find my power had tripped. When I restored the power the washer flashed up with E09 and refused to run. I found your video and managed to replace the TRIAC (cost £2 plus delivery) and get the machine working again. It was the first time I'd soldered since schol so the video was very useful!

You are a star, I repaired my Prima (Candy) machine. Just out of warranty. Replaced the triac, problem cured. Good job had two as I accidentally allowed the heat sink to touch earth..... BANG!!! Any would be repairers out there do not mess around with a loose circuit board, put it back together before trying it out. If I had touched the heat sink I would have been brown bread now. Got to love candy appliances. I have a candy heat pump dryer and a candy washer, both about 2 years old. The dryer motor condenser failed 6 months ago, and I woke up this morning to an E09 fault. I’ve already had to change a drum paddle in the washer. Looks like the E09 fault was a glitch as it’s not missing a beat now. I think I’ll order a triac now, just in case it’s on its way out. Regarding removing the triac from the board I’d have reflowed the joints with leaded solder, as it has a lower melting point, then used solder wick to soak it up. I’d have used a bigger iron tip too. If you use your iron a lot on jobs I’d recommend buying a TS100 iron, as they’re great for jobs like this and have changeable tips depending on the delicacy of the job you’re doing. Well done tackling this job. Heat sink compound is good, but not always used. You can see testing triacs elsewhere on YT .... but you got there in the end!

Thanks for sharing, we have basically the same machine that started showing this error today, its worked since but great to know irs fixable! I know it's a really old video so your soldering might have changed since, but since you did ask at the end - id use a soldering iron with a larger head, the smaller headed ones can struggle to transfer enough heat for larger components like this - i think your idea to cut the legs is a good one, its much easier to desolder 3 individual legs than 3 connected ones! - and just to confirm your approach of adding more solder is good, the new solder has flux in it that helps it melt, and it will also help with the old stuff! You can buy flux separately and it is useful, but if your only soldering infrequently its probably not worth it. Thanks again!

If you wash anything in it, on certain cycles itll flash L1 L2 L3, if you press the little t shirt icon you'll br able to select one, L1 is light soil and L2 med L3 high

I can remember you telling us a while back on one your bosch videos a few years ago that you was looking for something like this!

A desoldering iron (incorporating a vacuum) would make it much easier to remove the molton solder and thus the triac from the PCB. They are only about £12 - £14 with helpful reviews on KZfaq. I am about to replace a triac on the PCB of a John Lewis washing machine (with error code E51 "motor power triac short-circuited"). Thanks for posting your video - it's helpful.

Thanks for sharing your video. I have a Hoover Washer/Dryer WDXOC 4106A-80. Washing is OK but when it is drying, it restarts itself . No errors shown, it beeps and it just starts the program from the beginning. I found that using a cooling fan pointing direct to that same triac BTA316 800, machine works fine, with no problems at all. So I have swapped the Triac and the machine had no problems washing or drying for about 3 days. After 3 days, the "reboots" started again. No errors on display. Any ideas? Thanks.

Had a similar problem. The motor had blown so I replaced that. Also the Triac had gone open circuit.Tried 2 new complete control boards but they didn't fix the problem. Even though the boards were supposed to be for my machine. So after watching your video I replaced the triac on the original board and got it almost back to normal. I couldn't get a Triac to exactly match the original. Mine was BT316 800 B Pjd 1714 B4 0077 and I replaced it with BTA316 800B Pjd2031 E2 0022 It does a coloured wash now as it should. But doesnt stop spinning on the drain and spin cycle. So I have to manually stop it. I guess you have to get the exact match for the Triac to do the job correct.

Get yourself some flux or a fluxpen. If help a lot when it comes to melting stubborn solder joints

You can also protect the triac against voltage spikes from the motor

Nice work, I got a similar model that just stopped working no sound or light on the display. Bought a new control board and that seem to sort out the no power issue however big problem, when the selector switch is in the off position the machine is still on showing wool mode. The mode selected does not match was in the screen. You seem to know your way around these machines, how can I fix this?

How did you manage to get the top of this washing machine as it seems to have bolts from the inside?

Hi ,first of all thanks for your video . Two days ago the sleeve of a jumper got entangled in the external rubber seal of my washing machine and so now I get the error E09.Considering the dynamics of the problem, the engine certainly went under strain and stopped working. Following your advice I checked out the pcb board but apparently i don't have the triac component ( my model is a 10 years old Candy). Do you think I may be able to sort out the issue changing the entire pcb board? Many thanks

I think the factory doesn't make the boards, they buy from other supplier and just install them. The supplier may get very little per boars, thus skips thermal paste and uses low quality components. It's making me mad, critical component made carelessly, while other workers bust their asses to make the mechanical parts to spec. The ball bearings, brushed motor with high power, tub (may be stainless on some models) all require precision, welding, calibrating, lubricating. Having them tossed into garbage because a triac failed is crazy.

Does the number on the triac have to be exactly the same as the old on? Cheers

Hi, I'm Lahiru. My Candy Washer Drier (GVFW4106LWHC-S) is giving a issue as follows; Once machine is loaded (even without a load, the issues is same), door is closed & set any program and press start. I can hear the click sound from door but door symbol continues to flash and that's it. I tried opening the door but it is properly closed & only opens after two minutes I switch the machine off. Checked the door lock & it's working fine. But replaced it with a new one to make sure, but still issue is same. You have any idea that what could be the reason?

I've replaced a triac on my board and it managed two cycles and it's failed and shorting. Anyone know why? Ive got s spare triac but I don't want to waste this is there's another fault somewhere that I haven't seen Cheers

Get a temperature controlled Soldering iron, that rubbish goes cold whenever it touchs solder

Very bad pewter. Soldering iron in poor condition. Desoldering pump used incorrectly. No use of desoldering braid to remove as much tin residue as possible. Use of pliers to pull out the triac. Result OK but technique to review.
