Years ago I had an Australian Shepard that was born blind. I just want everyone to know that blind dogs are able to live wonderful lives and, in many cases, function almost as well as sighted dogs. If you are thinking about adopting a blind dog, do it!

some care needs to be done to safety proof the house so they don't hurt themselves on a sharp corner or sudden drop, but that's a simple swing by the childproofing supplies also having to acknowledge that the layout of furniture is probs gonna have to stay no matter what

The positive about dogs is that they ‘see’ so well with their noses and ears, much more powerful senses for them than sight that Lala will be just fine at getting around, especially if they can match her with a companion dog who will watch out for her too.

Feralmoonlight I feel the same way. My dog passed two weeks ago, but when I got her from the pound I was told she was a puppy mill dog that spent her first 3-months of life in a wooden box where she suffered a broken leg that healed but left her with a lifelong limp that couldn’t be fixed. I have lifelong disabilities that I deal with, but she was a real miracle the past 11-years, the sweetest little oddball that was by my side and I by hers till she passed in my arms on July 18th. I love them all, but it’s the “special ones” that always have a special soft spot in my heart.

yea, unless you don’t have the funds or the resources to give the puppy that does w| additional instructions the best, healthiest life possible. then, like hoominz giving their tiny hoominz up for adoption, the selfless, responsible thing to do is leave the puppy for someone who can give it the life it deserves.

Scott's true calling was obviously veterinary medicine. When he talks about his charges, you can see he absolutely loves them. His facial expression and manner when interacting with the animals just lights up his face. I hope Malala can live a long, happy life. I fell in love with her just like everyone else! The whole staff is excellent, love Emma (all of them actually, but she is my favorite). I remember when she adopted Ed, sitting on the couch with Ed just stretched out on his back - that episode was great! Poor Wellum had so many jokes about his "main unit" that it's really good he doesn't understand english. He sounded like a wookie from Star Wars after surgery! I'm glad the laser surgery helped Pippa, and it was available to be utilized on her. You all make me anticipate any new episodes!

@@lesliejohnson7247 Those types of " breeders " are out for money and not animal well-being. It's important to check out where the animal is living. It is devastating to support them when these animals suffer.

I wonder how different walks and the like might be with a blind dog compared to a seeing pup. Less chance of "omg, squirrel!" I'm sure, but twice the interest in sniffings. Is there anything you'd recommend or tips to give for people considering getting blind pups?
@Annie_Annie__
@Annie_Annie__ 3 жыл бұрын
luvondarox My dad has had 2 different blind dogs. He taught them both words to help them navigate like “right”, “left”, “step down”, “wall”, and “stop”. Other than things like telling them “step down” when they’re about to walk off a curb or snapping your fingers repeatedly when you say “come here” so they can hear where you are, it’s not that different than walking a sighted dog. My dad’s dogs keep their noses close to the ground as they’re walking outside and they feel with their front feet before they put any weight on them so they don’t step in a stone or in a puddle. Honestly, the hardest part to get used to is around the house. You have to be careful not to leave chairs pulled out or clutter on the floor because they navigate the house by memory. So, if you leave something in the middle of the living room floor they will bump into it. And with little dogs you have to resist the urge to carry them around. When you carry them and walk they lose their bearings and get confused and lost. When you do pick them up, it helps to have a place you set them down each time. So if you put the dog, say, on their bed, they know where they are and can find their way again.

Jill the rescue lady said something about “no one wanting” Malala - the inference being that her litter mates WERE adopted. So I wonder if she came from what we call a ‘backyard breeder’ or if it’s a bigger operation, a ‘puppy mill’ here in America. These are irresponsible people who couldn’t care less about breeding quality, genetically diverse dogs. All they DO care about is making money. They allow interbreeding & spend as little as possible on shelter, food, & veterinary care. I hope, Hope, HOPE beautiful little Malala made it to her first birthday & beyond! Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

There are a puppy mill that I have visited that I know of that was owned by a couple I've met that actually had to shut down because of the illegal mills ruining their reputation because how they were doing it was actually causing issues for the illegal mills and they had no choice but to shut down or risk the dogs who were there's lives and theirs Because how they were doing it was actually to help keep certain breeds of dogs alive so they had a 24/7 vet on call. Before anyone says it yes there is a difference between illegal mills and legal mills the illegal mills don't care if breeds mix together and alot of times the dogs owned by those mills usually have parasites, malnourishment, no 24/7 vet, etc while legal ones actually basically treat the dogs better than people treat their own children with actual home cooked meals, 24/7 vet care, training, play time, and way more other stuff than KZfaq will allow me to list

I have to agree.. you are building a story from nothing.. we know nothing about where the puppy came from... there are plenty of other ways this puppy could have ended up the way she did... you just want to yell out your own desires ... now while I don't totally disagree with you... I know where you are going with this... you want to say dont buy from breeders or puppy mills... well hate to bust this to ya but there are plenty of shelters that often steal pets right out of yards for sometimes just the simple reason that the pet has no tags or has a limp or they think it has a medical condition when it doesnt.. or sometimes because they THINK the dog is a wolf highbred when it obviously isnt.. or because an obnoxious pricky neighbor calls animal control makes up a lie... and by law the animal control will come to check and if the owner isnt home they will sieze / steal the animal without any further investigating... and why... to make themselves look like they are doing something good... yeah.. they don't tell you THAT do they... and some shelters throw the pets and I literally mean toss through pets into cages in a non inviromentally controlled space give barely any food or water ... wait a few days to see if someone claims the animal without checking on the animal they don't give any care what so ever and then if noone claims the animal they just kill the animal... now surely there are many shelters that really care and all... but not all... so the flip side to this is.. not all mills and breeders are bad you know.. please sneaky preachies are not cool.. ok.. I know you have your own beliefs on things... but it may not actually apply here.. we don't know how or why this puppy is the way she is.... anyone can do what you did... maybe an alligator took her as a pet and didn't know how to bring up the puppy and tried to feed her alligator cookies all the time as all alligators are mean and bad.... maybe not... see... irritating isn't it... totally irrelevant... but hey it could have happened but probably did not..

chopperkid19 please do a bit more research into dog breeding. There aren’t any breeds of dogs that are in danger of extinction. People breed dogs to sell the puppies. All breeders don’t mistreat the dogs, but all breeders do sell the dogs for profit. They all make efforts to only allow the dogs to only breed with the same breed, otherwise they cannot sell them reliably as the puppies may not resemble the breed any longer. Your family friend may have treated their dogs well, but it’s really best not to buy dogs from breeders or pet shops.

Okay um a few things. One, I really don’t appreciate the picture you’re painting of shelters considering that safe shelters/no-kill shelters exist and most shelters aren’t like the lil picture you’re painting. There ARE some that aren’t ran well but a lot of shelters don’t even get animals directly from animal control like you’re talking about and they certainly don’t just drive around stealing pets. And trust me I 100% know that there are shelters that unnecessarily euthanize animals that don’t need to be but ppl like you who want to act like all shelters are some horrible place where dogs go to die is exactly why animals stay in there for a year without getting adopted for no reason Two, there is literally no such thing as a good puppy mill. There’s responsible breeders, irresponsible breeders, and then puppy mills (the worst)

The first puppy reminds me of my miniature schnauzer puppy I had back in 2013. He couldn't support his head and he had very poor muscle development and could only walk backwards. The vets told me that he'd be best to be put down but I refused, pledging to take care of him even if he was disabled because he was happy regardless and loved playing with his other siblings. Well, turns out he was just a bit stunted! Two months later and he blossomed. All of his muscle issues disappeared, he bulked up, was able to hold his head and became a normal dog with literally no extra care or medicines needed. Sometimes the runts just are a bit slower to catch up with the rest of the litter. He's still alive and well. To think if I trusted those vets, he'd be dead and never would've had the chance at life. Not saying all vets are bad, but jumping to euthanasia is not always the best thing.

E C agreed, sometimes it makes me wonder what school these vets went to when their automatic response is to euthanize an animal without giving options for therapy or more hands on care? These animals have feelings and emotions (perhaps not to the extent that humans do, but they are there) and appreciate the opportunity to have their lives extended if it means therapy.

@@b.b.8955 Exactly! I just wish some of these vets would treat their patients with a bit more compassion and understanding. Not only was it traumatizing for me to be told I should put my dog down when he was only a few weeks old but I was even shamed by that vet saying that I was just going to be making him suffer in the long term. I'm glad I stood my ground though.

In May my husband and I bought a pup for our kids... a white German Shepherd... she was the last one on a farm (which we didn’t know either of these facts when we set up the meet up) A few weeks ago we realized something was wrong...... we found out after thousands of dollars that she has a genetic neurogenetic issue and there is nothing we can do . She can’t walk anymore and needs help with everything. She’s only 16 weeks old. My family and I are in agony in our hearts every day. Still trying to keep our little Luna going. Please pray everyone. Please Love and hug your own precious babies ❤️❤️❤️

I would love to see a follow up on lala to see how she does . I fell madly in love with her . It's so easy to love her. she's a fighter. The love poured out on her is going to get her through this terrible parasite she ended up with because of neglectful people .Thankful for Jill for rescuing her . Jill and Dr scott are such loving kind people .
