They casted a 54 and 65 year old to play characters in their young 20s. They casted Kevin Hart, someone with a penchant to make a joke, to play the big soldier who acts as the team's straight man. It feels like the only person that has played the games is Jack Black

@@hughjanus9557 ⁠ jack black is not a good pick for borderlands imo. Is he a good actor? Yes, but that doesn’t mean you put him in every single role you’re willing to mash him in. He’s for sure the wrong pick for clap trap and I can’t see him being a good character within the storyline of borderlands other than to be a throwaway character. Watching this trailer has saddened me. This trailer alone has done more to taint the borderlands games than all of the new Star Wars trilogy movies did to the Star Wars IP. I hope this movie TANKS in sales. I legit hope this only makes %1 of the cost of production for this movie. Even less if fate could. The product that they have laid out as is, is so very far from the original, I’d argue to just simply put the movie under a new name.

@@stephanlasley5781 Considering he would be voice acting for a comedic role, he has potential. It's brutal you wish so much negativity off of a trailer. Yes, the casting is absolutely atrocious, but Jack might be the one good person for the movie.

Krieg is the guy with the yellow mask . Krieg is one of my all time favorite video game characters with a really unique storyline. I wasn't expecting him to be in this trailer as he doesnt show up till Borderlands 2 but it was a nice surprise.

Apparently Jamie Lee has said she wants to play Dr. Kureha. She's not unaware of her age. I think she'd have made a great Nami back in the day, but she's been pushing to play Kureha. A crotchety older woman seems right up Jamie Lee's alley.

@@Zombiesnyder13 The Sony verse was doomed from the get go. They always been greedy and made the most wild decisions. They even beefing with Disney over Spider-Man 4 because they want it to be a big multiverse movie instead of the streethero movie they set up. They screwed over Sam Raimi with SM3, screwed over Andrew Garfield. They got more ego than actual creativity & respect for the source material.

The Psycho is Kreig. He was a DLC character for Borderlands 2 along with Gaige the Mechromancer. He's being played by Florian Munteanu who would have made a good Brick as well. I think they mixed the characters from Borderlands 1 and 2 because they wanted an excuse to get Tiny Tina in there. Apparently she meets Roland (Kevin Hart) in between those games. I'm not loving the cast. Cate Blanchett is awesome but about 30 years too old to play Lilith and sadly looks like it in the trailer. It doesn't look like Kevin Hart can pull off Roland and Ariana Greenblatt definitely isn't a great Tiny Tina. As for Jack Black, why not just get the voice actor from the games?

For a Looter Shooter, it's actually highly entertaining and you can play the whole story solo. It's a lot of silly, dark, mindless fun and well written characters. I can't wait to see Ellie and I saw they gave us a tiny glimpse of Madd Moxxie. Ah, this is just going to be fun.

Lillith: a magic siren with a large tatoo shooting magic at about 25 year old (sorry Kate i hope you manage to pull it off). Roland: the stoic fearless leader & probably the most sane of the lot. Live version seemed weirdly comedian. Krieg: Was added later to the game. ok i guess, looks the part. Tiny Tiny: insane tiny teen with a sad backstory & multiple spinoff games. The live actor play ok like BL2 , but looks like a clumsy BL3 version & i was worried she would hurt herself trying to youthfully jump around. Clap Trap: why use the real voice actor when you can get Jack Black. Was a lot of controversy back when one of the dev did the original voice for free, but once it got popular asked for a bit of cash and Randy was like NO!.Donno what Jack is paid. I love Jack its not that. Tannis: the insane(ly smart) doctor. She is like 30 & just a quest giver npc. I guess it was a way to inject Curtis? werid At least they got the worldbuilding right. Borderlands is kinda a wacky young people game with all the "hip with the kids" writing & language. I do understand that boilding down a 100s hours of Borderlands into like 90 mins is near impossible & they have to take some technical liberties. Cant help being worried from watching the trailer.

5:24 he is played by Florian Munteanu, its Krieg btw, from BL2, odd choice to be in here to be sure, but I mean he could easily replace Brick. Now, Tina... I heavily question that choice for BL1 movie, but eh I will probably give it a shot at least.

Kevin Hart in the movie LIFT was playing a pretty serious character and ngl, it surprised me and I was actually amazed by his acting and appreciated him even more. Also, loved the movie, I recommend.

Borderlands changes in tone across the games, but I’ve always seen it as a screwed up world with a vast amount of coping mechanisms for humor and a totalitarian outlook on corporations. It can look silly but it used to honestly take itself seriously before Borderlands 3 turned it into poop jokes and Michael Bay on drugs.

Pretty sure the Tiny Tina actress is the daughter from Barbie. She's going to have the toughest role as that's a well beloved character of the fans alone with Claptrap. But you can't screw up Claptrap. Not with Jack Black.

On the surface Borderlands is just a silly, over the top series. But it does have some pretty interesting lore deeper underneath, though not sure how much they'll get into with this movie. I think the first game didn't really delve into it too much on its own, either.

Borderlands is my favorite video game franchise of all time and I have many personal connections with the franchise, so this shit SCARES me. The world of Pandora visually looks near-perfect, but the casting and writing are quite worrying.

Super skeptical about this movie. Just from the trailer alone it's so obvious they are trying to make it seems like Guardians of the Galaxy. The Borderlands games had such a specific music vibe/feeling for it and that wasn't present in the trailer at all.

Writing this before watching this reaction vid because I'm a huge fan of the franchise and have watched the trailer already. Wanted to give my thoughts without being swayed by the crew... This isn't Borderlands, these are not the characters from Borderlands. It's honestly feels like the actors are wearing costumes and pretending, while putting their own spin on it. The creators, while not necessarily wanting to put out a bad film mind you (the movie doesn't look terrible), have clearly not played the games because honestly there's too much different, too much missing and too little care given to the source material. We've been waiting a long damn time for a movie/series set in the world and I'm kinda annoyed this is what we get. Anyways, lets see what BW think :)

This isn't borderlands at all... This is going to be one of those video game movies that the more you actually are interested in the franchise the more you will hate this movie. This trailer really turns me off even considering it considering how much it clearly doesn't get borderlands for a second. They clearly are trying to hit a different audience than the game which just feels wrong.

For a second I thought Tiny Tina was being played by Alyvia Alyn Lind who stood out in the otherwise bland Netflix show Daybreak playing pretty much a version of Tiny Tina. A lot of the same energy as Borderlands in that show to be fair.

A lot of people had problems with the casting, but it honestly doesn't bother me. Randy Pitchford said that the movie is a separate universe from the video games. So it doesn't bother me that it seems a bit different, it still looks cool so I'm excited to see what they do with it.
