In this video, we take a good look at Buffalo Arms bore wipers (commercially available), and some experimental bore wipers as well. When I was trying to get gear and information together to make the switch to black powder, I had a bit of a time figuring out bore wipers. Truth is, they aren't very complicated once you see them up close.
The idea behind them is that you wipe all the fouling and crud out of the bore between shots. This way, you're always shooting through a clean barrel. The bore wipers fall out into a plastic tub with some Simple Green solution in it (1.5 oz per gallon distilled water, neutralizes the BP fouling) and then you put the felt wads into a laundry bag when you get home and run them through the washer. Once they dry, you stick them back on the brass wiper shafts and do a quick dunk in the M-Pro 7 solution when you're getting ready for the next range trip. Stick them in a cartridge box (I use MTM RSS-50 Rifle size) and you're all set!
