@@director2bob Well, it's really cool. I pulled it out and got a VERY basic understanding of how it works. I played with it that night, and then I put it back in the case and I have not touched it since. That is no reflection on the looper, simply the fact that I'm busy all the time, and I'm old. I think you'll love it. The one night I spent with it was a definite proof of concept and proof of potential for me. I'm certain that with some time I could do a show with one. Like anything else, repetition... It's a tank, but definitely get the case that's made for it. Let me know how it goes for you. :D

Though I prefer the 505mk2 form factor and much like yourself I like the extra buttons and the faders for certain, my conflict is that I am also a guitarist so my big question is how to integrate both units and then how to support stereo recordings because unless I am deaf which is quite possible, did I hear each track is mono?

My solution to the more assign would be to have each channel listen to a different midi channel. Like you have 16 assigns for track 1 on MIDI channel #1, track 2 on MIDI channel #2 and so on. Maybe general assigns could come in the last MIDI channel for input and output FX....

Sold the OG RC 505 2 days ago. Think i'm gonna go with the RC 600 when it gets out. I'm a guitarist and also have the Dreadbox Typhon. Would like to change that one with the Roland Jdxi as it has drums too, to go for a synthwavey 80' sound for live. If Anyone has an additional advice for the rig or alternatives, they are very welcome! Anyway, great review as always! 👌

I always want to know more about how things are being recorded. How does his recording sound so crisp? I recently got the Circuit Tracks for a DAW less setup paired with my OG Boss Rc505. I got a cheap mixer too so I could create music from Circuit Tracks and record vocals separately on my Boss. If anyone has a similar setup I’m all ears. Trying to bring it all together and have the final output sound as good as it does in my headphones! Thanks for the thorough video rundown and amazing musician! Cheers

one MASSIVE thing that people should know because I watched every video trying to trouble shoot this issue... is to assign your mic to one of the Chanels for me I set it to 5.. and to turn mic OFF for the Chanels you want to record synth or guitar sounds on.... if youre a keyboard player and you have your loops set to record when you press a key.. if your mic is picking up any sound it will trigger your loop at random times and not be in sync.. you will be wondering why your bass line starts late or ends early and yank your hair out.

@AnyLastWords_
@AnyLastWords_ 3 ай бұрын
Wow the premixing capabilities alone make this worth the upgrade. One of the issues I have with the old version is that sending more than 1 instrument into it gets a kinda muddy. Especially if you're doing leads + rhythms through the same output. But with this I can premix multiple instruments with panning and then (if I'm not mistaken) submix each track out via separate outputs. That not only solves my muddy bass/keys/guitar mix but also eliminates the need to premix on a mixer which frees up like 6 channels on my mixer that I can do anything with. That is just wild. Why haven't I already upgraded???

Great review, and beautiful music from Ori! One thing I'm very curious to know is how these machines work in sync with other hardware. Do you think it would work well to have a Digitakt or another drum machine as master clock and sync the loop station so that the drums and other sounds would come from the Digitakt and you could build the rest of the song on the loop station?

@@loopop I'm just playing anyway but it would have been nice to see somebody use it to see how the workflow looks in action. Heavy menu diving vs the 505. How easy is it to access effects in real time while recording etc. If it was just a sound video you would not even need video nobody was expecting that. It is a valid point IMO. I appreciate the level of detail put into the video and your knowledge of the products is extensive no doubt. I am curious how easy it would be to improvise with the FX on the 600 without spending a bunch of time preparing everything on the floor or with the unit on the desktop. They should have had better ways to navigate with your feet perhaps. An up/down and a select button?

This is quite clearly a "must watch" and I haven't even seen it yet! I have the old 505, found it a bit clunky, but very versatile. These updates are exciting. Do you still have to have the rhythm on to get it to slave to external midi clock? That was always a problem. Also the midi receive transport had some mystical menu which was another issue. I both hated the 505 yet admired it.
@loopop

Thanks for the trust :) re your question - I didn't try but you can always lower the level of the rhythm to zero
@mymockumentary9716
@mymockumentary9716 2 жыл бұрын
@@loopop absolutely, I ended up doing that, you know those generic Boss beats.... urgh. Any idea on the menu diving with the midi slave transport controls? The original 505 had to be set when turned on, and would lose the setting when turned off. Big warning to new players of the old 505, it will not slave without rhythm being turned on, thus you are unable to get set bars. Having to manual stop while all other midi devices stop automatically is not so bad, but as stated you can menu dive to get the 505 to respond to "stop". It will automatically respond to start, but not stop. I wonder if the 505-2 or 606 have this same affliction which haunted me for months and made me want to burn/smash it....

Main problem with my rc500 is the amount of time I spend crouched on the floor to access pretty much any setting. With all the extra tracks, effects and options it looks like an extra controller is a must for the rc600. Or I give up a track for the 505, but would still need footswitches....

I have used a lot the RC 505 mk1, which track routing options where limited to L-R channels. But the problems was that things where sounding thru both L and R before they were recorded. So... the comparison I've been waiting for. pre-watch, my gut says the 505mkII is the one for me. (and I'm in the market). I'm also trying verify that an RC makes more sense than an Octatrack for live looping (I expect the short answer is yes), but there's a longer, "it depends" answer, I'm sure.

I think as far as hands on control and immediacy, the 505 takes the cake. The OT is a beast though. If its strictly for looping, and you don't want to sample/sequence/sound mangle/etc then probably go 505 :) just my opinion though.

Good Video. But I have a question. If I record say a Drumloop into the RC-505 with 2 measures I always get a breack at the end of the recorded loop. Do you know why?

If you have a verselab does this have great value to buy this? I was looking for a mic out to plug into the mic in on the verselab or is this not needed. The loop has probably value and maybe you can make your voice into another drumline so the voice layers on the verselab can become a instrument like bassline,drumline or sample layer.

THANK YOU (+congratulations on making what may be the best review on youtube.) +since you are the most knowledgeable person I can find.. I have an advanced (outside of the box) QUESTION: I want to run a tabletop MIDI controller into the "MIDI-in" of the RC600(to control THAT), then run the "MIDI-out" of the RC600 to the "MIDI-in" of the RC505 mk2(with 4 foot switches to control THAT).. to create an 11 channel looper with different intstruments going into each unit with outputs going into different speakers.. Will this WORK ??? (specifically will connecting an RC600 to a 505 mk2 work AS WELL as just connecting two rc600's together?? -which according to the manual is supposed to work -though I don't know anyone who's tried that either..) It would be a bummer to buy one of each and then have it not work..

can you make one or the other, be like ableton looping or loopy pro ? meaning that you can tap record any time after the end of the loop and it will record to the start of the next one so you could get ready then stops to how many bars you set it to ?

Thanks a lot for this great review Loopop ! Would you mind giving us a bit more details about the 2 "replace" overdub functions ? What are the differences between the two ? (there's nothing about them in the manual if I'm not mistaken) And thanks for sharing ORI's music: Sigur Ros, James Blake, Bon Iver and Kid A era's Radiohead came to mind while listening: new fan here !

My pleasure re the review and ORI :) regarding the replaces - Replace 2 is a clear "punch in and out" totally removing the audio that was recorded in the loop for as long as you're overdubbing. Replace 1 works kind of like a delay at a fixed feedback level, reducing the level of the previous audio by about 30% every time (so, within 3-4 loops it's totally gone)

hey Loopop, great video and super detailed! I got myself an RC-600 and came across this video while trying to find ways to configure it - I hope you have the answer I'm looking for! I've owned the RC-30 and the RC-300 and with both pedals, I was able to change the settings so that once I've recorded my initial loop, I can directly overdub without having to press record twice (basically, hit record and play my initial loop, hit record again to end my initial loop and directly record on top without having to hit record again). I am unable to find this feature on the RC-600 and I am unsure whether it's because it doesn't exist with this new pedal, or because I just don't understand the pedal well enough yet. The user manual is not very helpful at all either. Another feature that I cannot seem to figure out is the tap tempo by using your foot. In the RC-30 you would double click the right pedal and get the hi-hat click track running and on the RC-300 you would triple click the last pedal to get the same. In the RC-600, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to activate the click track using my foot. Again, the user manual has not been helpful at all. 🙏

Thanks! Sorry, I don't offer tech support, but both are possible. I show the direct to overdub option in this video. Make sure you read the parameter guides too

You can set any footswitch to do tap tempo, just go to the menu and go to the assign button section

I think one of the main concerns of potential buyers is how well the MK2 syncs to midi clock, I would want it as a slave and from what I have read of the MK 1, is that, it is not good at all in that role. Most solutions to sync problems, even from Roland, is to make the 505 the master, but this is not a satisfactory answer. I hope the MK 2 has improved midi implimentation, but I haven't seen much about that, even customer service at Roland (USA) couldn't confirm if any update was made to the midi spec.

I second this. But either as being a slave to another piece's clock, or using this as a master. Would be so useful to be able to tweak the tempo knob on the 505 and any outboard arpeggios/ sequences or delay settings to obediently follow along with the changes. I imagine not everyone would use this to automate their synth performances as audio from within the looper itself. Especially when there is usually so much more to fiddle around with on the source hardware.

I as well would like to know this. I went with another option due to the midi sync issues reported about 505. I would jump on this right away if I knew the midi sync as slave (as well as master) works like it should.

I'm also having these issues. The mk2 still has issues after the v1.10 software update. It's frequently freezing and crashing, not reliable.

Hi! Is it possible to sync tempo with, for example, a Korg volca? (Maybe with Midi?) so I have a perfect sync when recording a bass loop. Thanks!

would it be possible to use a midi-controller with faders an button via CC on the rc 600 to get the better build-quality AND the controls of the rc 500? I prefer the 600 a lot over the 505 even when I´m no guitarist and would use it in the studio on the desk with voice and synths.
