Hi guys, I wish there was a way to get rid of all fungus gnats forever, but there isn't :(. Here are some helpful ways to help control them.

Everyone seems to be giving away their schefflera plants. I get tons of messages saying, "my so-and-so just gifted me this plant... it's 30 years old and I don't know what to do" yada yada... well here's a video on how to take care of it!

Guys, if you have no clue what's wrong with your plant, consider watching this video. If these are things that do not occur to you, then throw the whole plant away, because you are not a good plant parent (jk ...sort of)

I made a dieffenbachia video about 7 months ago and you guys were soooooo mad that I didn't show how I actually harvested the babies. I went and put all this effort into making a revised, and improved, version and you didn't even bother to watch it (hmph!!!). If you want to give me a pat on the back, peep my improved video!

I guess I'm not adding enough mosquito bits. Looks like at lest 5 TBSP into the pot. I've started to make MB tea with only 1 TBSP of mosquito bits in 1.5L of water as soil drench. Seems to keep the gnats population down but not totally gone yet. Just today, I've also added a TBSP neem oil and 10 drops castile liquid soap to the MB tea. I have to remove the mosquito bits as it was forming mold. House humidity about 55. I pushed some bits into the soil hopefully no more mold. All my plants are 'decorated' with yellow sticky tapes, not the prettiest thing but definitely catching the adults. My battle with gnats continues... Hydrogen peroxide is on the way in the mail. Thanks for your sharing, so helpful.

Oh no, sorry to hear about the mold, Esther 🥴! I have a bit on mine growing too. I’ve found that it doesn’t last though, it’ll go away in a few months. 🤣yes, at this point the yellow stickies do look like decoration at my house too. I have 1 pot of Hoyas that are riddled with new gnat babies 🤢. Funny you mention MB tea! I just bought some empty tea bags to use mosquito bits for. I think I should be able to get a few good batches of tea with each sachet. It’s such a pain to sift them out. Hoping it’ll be easier than what I’m using now: those lemon nets with the elastic around it 😭. Thanks for watching!! Hope your gnats get under control soon ❤️🤞🏽🪴

On the sand. Vermiculite is a better option, I think. It’s color blends well with soil and its much coarser than sand. It’s a soil additive so if any gets into soil mix doesn’t matter. Another way of sterilizing potting/soil mix is pouring boiling water over soil mix and letting it sit. Gary P. At the Rustic garden does this. Neem cake works too and it also is a mild fertilizer. Haven’t found a 100% solution, except using semi hydro. Still experimenting.

🤣 the only way I could cook dirt is if I had a designated giant wok to use in a fire pit or something

Instead of cooking potting soil right after buying it, could you potentially just leave it in its sealed bag for a long period of time? Would everything living in it suffocate and die, or do gnats and things go dormant and just hang out? Sorry I know this video is almost a year old. 😅

I am curious too.. I read to keep soil in a 5 gallon bucket with air tight lid and they don’t have any oxygen so it suffocates and living bugs in the soil. I’ve never tried it but thought it was interesting.
