+Ben Finegold Just awesome thank u GM Ben. The most truth, about life and about chess, that I've seen in a youtube video, I think. I didn't think u could or would get better but I think u are. Watch out R Pryor, R Williams :-) - Jokes that are funny cause they're stoopid are fine ('c4') ; jokes "funny because it's true", about something important, are the best. (As Homer saith.) All hail Finegold. These are seriously great stuff.

It's amazing how Tal's games are still being examined and discussed today. Many of the GM games today are boring and will soon be long forgotten in the near future. However, Tal's games will still live on and prosper forever. Is Finegold cutting a silent fart at 30:00?

One thing you can learn from the games played in the 50's and 60's is how they attacked in the Middle Game. Obviously Tal and Fischer but also Korchnoi, Spassky Geller, Stein and many Soviets have moments of good instruction in a variety of openings. Petrosian once said-"The only purpose of the opening is to reach a playable Middle Game." Botvinnik and Fischer player 'their systems' to perfection which gave solid instruction. Play thru Fischer's Ruy Lopez games and you learn how to play it.

@@jessesmoot1285 Not true. His father Ronald was a strong player -- in the top fifty in the US in the early 1960s -- but quite a way short of a grandmaster. His brother Mark plays (he and Ronald both scored 8/12 in the 1992 US Open, as did Bisguier) but, again, not a grandmaster. You're probably right about the cat, though. 🤣

So I believe that Bobby Fischer's complaint was that the Challenger would win the match if it was tied after 24 games. That makes sense. So if they would have a home-and-home series the first one would be drawn and the Challenger would get it and the rematch would be drawn I'm the original champion would get it back

Isn't the pawn hanging on c4 at 34:00? Can't black play dxc4 and win the c4 pawn? I calculated a few lines with the white queen coming out to b4 but after black plays b5 I don't see what white can do... I am a 2066 rated player.
@simonenoli4418
@simonenoli4418 8 жыл бұрын
its not a question of taking material. which black could, but take away from the centre compensates the loss to white and furthermore black did not complete development as its rook and knight were still tucked in the corner(as a matter of fact black developed its knight instead of capturing). strategically is worthless. but i am lower rated than you by a fair amount i am just assuming this is a valid reason since "the centre" is sacred
@rafehqazi8539
@rafehqazi8539 8 жыл бұрын
I understand general principles. But this is one of those where there has to be a tangible refutation... Otherwise black is just up a pawn! I completely agree with you on the strategic points Timothy Barth but in my humble opinion I believe that that might not be enough for white to prove a real advantage. I have a strong feeling that I must be missing something more concrete for White.

Ok now I know why Anish Giri make a draw so easily. Well atleast what Ben Finegold said. He studies opening theory very well and plays based on the theory. Thus his move are very much perfect but leads to draws against these Super Grand Masters. Now I don't think players should be forced to loose by the fans. You never watch a football or track and field match and I hear people forcing players to play for the win/ lost. If a player wants to play safe that's their decision. However compensating a winner for sacrificing for the win is the way to go.

1960 seems to need an excuse more than 1961. Even at his height, Tal didn't crush top positional players. At BZB he lost three out of 4 to Keres, didn't win any against Petrosian, and had a losing score against the Top 4. He won the tournament by crushing the weakies (Fischer, Benko, Gligoric and Olafsson. Tal might not have become world champion at all if they'd had candidates matches then. Tal won Bled right after that match, he couldn't have been too sick. Botvinnik was just Botvinnik. Tal was great, against most people, but several people had his number.
