We go for a ride along w/ Ethans 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo but its not the turbo model but a 5.3 Aluminum block chevy LS motor swapped by ethan. Take a look at the video to see how the car sounds, handles, and puts the power to the ground with its close to 50/50 Power to weight ratio.

Daaaammm that's so nice... you know I wish there would be a TV show of LS engine swaps on candidates like Mazda miata,Volkswagen beetle, mini cooper, and moore ...so far i seen a jeep wrangler on a mechanic shop ( belong to one of the mechanics) with an ls engine installed...mine has over 200k...my brothers V6 has 240 kone of my best friends has 300 k ...viva la LS

What transmission did you use for the swap??? And what harnesses did you used???? What's the hardest part of the swap??? Looking into doing something similar.

Transmission is a limited slip 944 Turbo transmission. I took a factory LS1 harness and completely reworked it down to a plug in standalone harness. Harness was probably the most time consuming part of the swap, most everything was pretty straightforward for me as I've swapped these cars before. One of the big struggles with these swaps is figuring out the Brake Master Cylinder/mounting/brake booster situation.

Thing makes so much torque it blew the shocks out. Should make sure the rivets arent coming loose on the intake manifold.

Is this an iron block then being a truck motor? I know there's a few 5.3s out there that are aluminum. I want to do the same swap but im afraid the iron block will throw the weight distribution off.

A1 they look to be CCW Classics if not then it's a replica of them. CCW Normally does not give out or advertise et specs. Rather they have them made specific or custom depending on vehicle. They are badass not only in looks but durability, very light for wide wheels. Also CCW Classics are very popular in road racing applications- as people have literally cut track time solely swapping to these. Hope that helps man

i think power to weight ratio is .5 hp per 1 lbs. so if this vehicle weights 3000 pounds it should have 1500hp.

@@WarmBusch I forgot about this to a degree, more so busy with my chemical engineering coop. No 944 at the moment, but I am running my 1998 buick riviera on an 87 and e 85 mixture. Something that doesn't actually come in a kit. Lol.

Hey Thomas, thanks for your comment. The factory 944 Turbo rear mounted transaxle will handle up to ~500hp without issue if it is fresh, and you don't clutch dump it...they handle regular (spirited) driving and even track days very well.

Early transaxles are weak, they will not handle the power for long...you will need a 951 Transaxle.

mr19zee if you're going to do that, buy a custom job with new ratios to maximize your output from the new engine, also when you choose to mod the motor with a twin turbo, or supercharger then the rear end is all set and you don't have to worry about it.

Car was totalled by a distracted, uninsured driver 1 month after this video. I can at least answer your question about weight distribution: unchanged from factory 951 configuration.

Engine mounts came with the engine when I bought it off of a fellow forum member who couldnt complete his swap. I believe they were made by Renegade Hybrids. They are crap. I will be making another set for my next swap I'm working on again...hope to fab a few extra sets for others as well.

There's nothing bs about a legitimate dyno, and no serious effort runs off mail order tunes. Anybody serious about the car will get it tuned on a dyno, anything else is half assed. That's why it matters.

Adam Kalman , he wasn't talking power to weight, he was talking about weight distribution. Also, he's not telling the whole truth on that, the LS motor weighs about 160% the original Porsche turbo motor, so he's looking at more of a 60/40 weight distro, but still not horrible. He talked about his likely power to weight ratio, but we have to do the math. He said that his LS6 motor on other vehicles was noted to have an average how of 350-375 (362 to make it easy) the car weights ~3000lbs that means his power to weight ratio is about 0.12.

False. The 944 Turbo engine with all the turbo plumbing, accessories, and intercooler weighs 460lbs. An aluminum block LS does NOT significantly alter the weight distribution of the vehicle from it's stock configuration. Depending on options added or removed, a shift of a few percentage points toward the front OR REAR can be seen with these swaps. I estimate, from extensive research and calculations, a margin of error of 2% max from a 50/50 weight distribution. Don't put words in my mouth please.

@@somedudeinatunnel3102 watch again. Listen closely at 2:30. I only ever refer to the weight distribution of the car. The interviewer asked a convoluted question about "power" and "that 50/50". I responded by talking about the handling characteristics due to the "50/50 weight distribution." Not my fault you can't listen and comprehend.

Hard to calculate, car went through a lot of iterations and subsequent upgrades as I saw things I didnt like etc. Just the swap itself, roughly $6500?

Ruin a 944 Turbo that was on it's second engine already, that developed crankwalk and destroyed a 4K drivetrain? Pretty sure I made it better...kept it out of the junkyard for sure.

Your friend ruined that car. The Porsche turbo engine makes that car worth double what a regular 944 would be. Let me guess he sold it to pay for the LS... Your buddy also forgot a whole bunch of mods to get the most he possibly could out of that motor. He didn't restructure his unibody, I can tell from the shot you took from his rear driver's side from the liftgate-roof-quarterpanel droop, which can turn into a big issue that could shatter that lift gate window. He kept the stock transaxle, which was never designed to handle the torque from that engine, I hope he changed out the clutch, because he didn't talk about that, because one bad slip with that motor and that's stripped, my recommendation, find a shop that will run a custom job to restructure his drivetrain. Lastly, what was going on with those wheels?! Did he have it set up for drift, or did he just do a shitty job dropping his rear end to make it look cool?
