I remember during a telecast years ago Walter Ray talking to himself after a bad shot that he laid the ball down on the wrong board. While I may change the angle I am throwing the ball depending on the break point, I would look at the board where I was laying the ball down at so when I laid the ball on the proper board, it would follow the oil line into the pocket.

The best thing is knowing Now to use the boards to do your targeting. What board you start on what board you are throwing at and how far down the lanes you are targeting. Then you will be able to make adjustments by how many boards you missed by. Of course knowing what conditition and what part of the lanes you are playing also makes a difference on the adjestment you make. Like playing you might move your feet and target the same to mane adjestments. or you might want to keep your arc point the same which is very important for right handed bowlers playing the track area, which would be your feet would move double the amount of boards as your target which woud keep your arc point the same and you could get your ball getting into the track area way down the lanes before your ball gets into the track area so you get a consistant roll to the pocket. You get into the track area to early you will never know when your ball will break. The track area exsists because open bowlers throw strait balls from the right side between the 8 to the 13 board so the lanes have scratches divots and stuff like that which makes a friction points where for right handed ball will grip and start hooking. on the left side that does not exsist because there are not to many leftys . That is why it is an advantage to be a lefty and why you see them playing outside almost always. It is much tougher if you are right handed. You have to know what the lanes are doing an the right kind of adjestment to make depending on the oil patteren you are playing. I was taught this stuff by a guy named Roger Koplin JR.who I took lessons for 2 years he called me the greatest practice bowler alive and a mental pieces of shit and he was right. And I know walter ray knows all this stuff and he plays by the boards and mathematicly figures it out even to the piont of knowing how many boards he wissed the pocket or the part of the pocket he is targeting and just move his feet and target to get the desires effect he wants on his ball. My problem was not knowing the game or being able to to throw the ball consistient with good power it was I choke under pressure of a tourney and it was leaving the ten pin I shoot my spares of my strike like and adjested my feet so I rarley missed spares and normal splits I make them just as easy as a single pin spare. I just did not seem to get the lift and rotation timing perfect under pressure and you are not going to make it averaginging 200 to 206 in pro tourneys you have to shoot telephone numbers. I know that is why Walter Ray in my opinion is the greatest bowler ever and lasted so long. He understands lane conditions uses the boards and mathe to make adjestments and is great under pressure. That is why he is a great bowler and horse shoe player. If you cant proform under pressure it dont make no difference how talented you are or how much you know you will be good but never great. The reason walter ray did not elaborate is because unless someone teaches you how to get your paralel and coditions parts of the lane your playing and the oil patteren it woud just confuse you.

PS when I said making normal splits I did not mean splits like 4,6,7,10 and 4,6 like those are almost imposible in fact walter ray is the only one to ever make a 4,6,7,10 on tv ever.

I just look at the back marks or back boards on the lane and try to hit them every time for strikes and spares.

I use the fowl line. I have onLy been bowling regularly since last summer. Starting in league i averaged 120. In the last few weeks from targeting exactly where i need to release the ball by using the dots at the fowl line i am more consistent in my throws and easily bowl @ 200 now

now to take it one step further, imagine there is only the 1 3 6 and 10 pins, and you only work with half the lane.

So looking at the arrows is the best thing?

It would seem so, but every time I watch the pros, it sure seems like they're looking at the pins.

Saw Nose bowlers aim wherever they need to in order to get results. sometimes i look in a specific area in between the dots and the arrows in order to throw my ball wider. sometimes i aim further down the lane to keep my ball inside more
