Awesome video guys. I've found what works best for me is to take my eyes from the end of the lane towards the dots as I approach and draw the line sort of "backwards" in my mind and my eyes are at the dots when I release my ball. When I got that consistent form of targeting and visualization down, my scores started going up.

This is one thing I have been having the most difficulty with. I know what my target is (I look at the arrows, usually the second arrow from the right), and every time I get to the foul line, I hope that my ball will go over what I'm looking at every time, but unfortunately that doesn't always happen. I bowled on Sunday night and I was constantly missing left (however I did have some shots go over my target, even though more of my strikes were brooklyn strikes, lol). Thank you Brad and Kyle for posting these videos. They have been really helpful and I am getting a little better each week because of your advice. Would love to get the opportunity to bowl with you guys.

Remember what they said in the video: your body has to be right if your targeting is gonna be consistent. You have to drill in your physical game so fundamentals become muscle memory. Once you’re able to do that, being able to accomplish what you visualize is much more easy. Bowling is hard, so practice with a purpose is huge.

The idea of balance made me strive for it, and I have found improvement in my game: accuracy improved and scores have gone up. I always had the idea that bowling should be effortless for the most part, and finding the dynamic balance in the approach is how it happens. For me. For you? I dropped a coach recently because he could not deliver on this simple concept, so thanks Brad and Kyle.

Coming back to bowling after 18 months. The last month before lockdown, I was averaging about 220. I didn't pick up a ball until three weeks ago. Now, I'm working to get back to a 180 average. All of the little tweaks and adjustments which became second nature to execute, I'm now having to relearn from almost scratch. Balance is the big one. Thank God I can go back and watch all your videos again! Keep up the great work and hit that 100K soon...

I grew up looking at the arrows. I recently started looking at the dots to help get the ball down without lofting it. I noticed I was "more accurate" at the dots, but the margin for error is smaller. I recently switched back to looking at the arrows. I'm a little sloppier at my target point, but much tighter downlane. So it really is a personal preference. Whatever you need to do to find the breakpoint.

I usually look at the dots area to begin my path for a strike and if I start missing for a couple of frames I usually try moving perhaps to the left since I am right handed or I might move my target 3 feet or so past the dots to get back on track. However, if nothing seems to be working using the dots area, do you advice THEN move to the arrows for your target since the dots are now working? I find that adjustments seem much "smaller" in the dots area than perhaps further down in the arrows or past arrows area. Thanks. I enjoy your videos.

If that works for you it's great but you may want to try to transition to the other leg unless you have injury. I believe he’s talking about a 3 point targeting. You look at where you want your ball to read the lane?(breakpoint) for 3 seconds then you move to the arrows for 3 seconds then the lay down spot for 3 seconds. You move from each spot to visually draw the line to the pocket and then most people look at the arrows during their approach. I could be wrong but this is what I use and it sounds similar to what he’s talking about.

Meanwhile.. I just centre my focus on the pins firmly and insure that my release is as straight as I can make it. :D Aiming for the strike pocket. It has worked 85%/90% of the time. I struggle to see the arrows on the lane due to the glare of lights. (Sometimes I aim between 2nd and 3rd if I am able.) It still ends up being roughly the same results. My balance has drastically improved via some words from a teammate (to the point where I am unable to bowl the way I did before.) But the key for me personally? Listening to music via headphones. I time my approach, my swing and my release to certain favourite tunes. Now that I am balanced and I take my time to slow down? I am seeing a real positive perk to my scores. I may not be a pro bowler by any means.. But 6 years in a league has provided me with a hobby that is essentially legal anger management. I am set to move to an alias league next year so that I am able to wear my headphones every time I play. (Stupid TBA rules will plague me no longer soon enough.) 🤣

pequals hence why I look at a point in between the dots and the foul line after I’ve started my approach. The way I do it is I look at my target at the arrows and then as I go through my approach I look down at the point my eyes want to look at (which is usually right behind the target at the arrows) and then I immediately look at the arrows once the ball has gone over the point my eyes were looking at.

Of course. Visualize your shot, execute your delivery, stay balanced until the ball hits the pins.

You're just playing an area, if you are standing in the same place and moving as the night goes on, it's ok to play that way. Especially on a house shot. Although, being able to nail your target board at the arrows or dots, and hitting a 2-4 board area at the break point down lane will dramatically increase accuracy and scoring. It will also allow you to adjust one or two boards left or right to change the trajectory of the ball. This becomes exceedingly important if you ever get on professional sport oil patterns. I was chatting with Brad at a PBA event and we touched on the subject a bit.

When you say you "know" where to throw it, that's your visualization. You know that if you place the ball here, it will go there and curve like that and hit the pocket like this. You're FEELING it rather than memorizing it, and it is good to have that instinct. But it's not great for consistency when suddenly you DON'T know where to throw it. What's your point of reference that you have to use to adjust? If you move left, how much are you moving? If you're lucky guessing, that's not consistent, even if it gets results. I suspect you do know the details but you're just not paying attention to them. If you can repeat your shot consistently, then you have a set position and a target already. You're great at visualizing, and your execution is coming subconsciously rather than being a ritual you memorize and follow. I just don't personally trust myself to be that physically consistent, especially after many hours of bowling. Fatigue really hurts my game.

Why not, you always could use a spare ball for single pins that you don't need to hook it at.

At least one study was done on foul shooting in basketball that showed spending 30 minutes sitting in a chair visualizing shooting the ball though the hoop measurably improved players abilities to shoot foul shot on the court. I don’t remember how often you had to do the visualization, or what percentage improvement occurred, but the same should apply to bowling. Also, since Brad emphasized having good balance at the line, anything to improve your overall balance would help. Since good balance requires engaging your core muscles, it would be good to do exercises that strengthen your core. You can also work on you legs for both strength and endurance, since bowling well requires good legs as well.

Start your stride a litte closer to the lane. You are more than likely using the same number of steps before you release the ball every time.

Anybody have tips for my issue? I’m starting to pull my eyes, I’ll line up and know where I want to throw on the arrows and I’ll make a good shot but my eyes will focus on the ball and I won’t see where I hit at the arrows

Lou Scataglia what I did was have someone come with you when you practice and have them watch and ask you every shot what arrow you hit.

I know what you're saying, it's probably because you're a bit too interested in the result. You can practice with a house ball or something that you know is not going to strike. Line yourself up and do your pre-shot routine as normal, execute your shot and stare down your mark at the arrows. Watch the ball roll over the exact board at the arrows. Do not watch the ball after the arrows. Write down those exact boards after every shot. Throw 20 shots like that and then look at your paper to determine how accurately you're hitting your mark. Once you lock down this first mark then you can work on trying to get the ball to hit your first Mark and travel onward to the trajectory that you chose down Lane at the break point. We all get excited about strikes but doing this kind of leg work will definitely bring you more strikes in the future. You even being concerned about something like this shows that you're a very serious bowler. Good luck out there.

My question is where to position your feet when you are targeting. II my shot is straight up board 8 where should I position either the edge of my right foot or the inside of my left foot at the start of the shot and assuming I do not have any drift.? I guess another way to ask is how many boards difference from your feet to the laydown board?

I actually never hit my mark. I generally consistently miss it in the same spot, about 2 boards right, at about 1 foot past it. If I hit my mark, I know I messed up and pulled it :)
