Tucked in the Wasatch Mountain Range and American Fork Canyon lies the Deer Creek Dry Creek trailhead and Box Elder Peak. Looks are deceiving as this hike up to Box Elder Peak is 5,000 feet of elevation gain and 12 miles out and back. Box Elder sits at an elevation of 11,101 feet. This day hike is straight up from the beginning. Be prepared for an all day leg workout right out of the parking lot. Box Elder Peak is a lightly trafficked trail and gives 360 degree views of the Wasatch Mountain Range, including Mount Timpanogos to the south, Lone Peak, Pfeifferhorn and White Baldy to the north. The summit could be entirely yours! The view at the top rivals any in the entire Wasatch Range. Enjoy soaking your demolished feet in Deer Creek after the pounding they take from the descent. Cool and rinse off in Tibble Fork Reservoir once you have completed this all day grueling hike. Tibble Fork Reservoir is just minutes away from Box Elder Peak trailhead. Box Elder Peak's pyramid shape can easily be seen from Salt Lake City's valley floor, making it a desire to be hiked.

Great video! I'll be in the area next month- how does this rank among your favorite long hikes in the area? I'm considering doing this, pfeifferhorn, and a few others

Thanks Alec! I’ve been out to the Wasatch 3 times now since last August and headed back next weekend. You will love it there! I plan on doing Mount Timpanogas this time, which is one of the so called best out there. It’s 15 miles and 5k elevation. Pheifferhorn was amazing but personally I liked Box Elder views better from the top, although it was much harder. Both were around 12 miles. Emily and I hiked Monte Cristo (6 miles total) last year, that hike to date was my favorite by far! Best views, drop offs and cliffs like crazy! Video out in August. If you like class 3-4 scrambling Sundial Peak/Lake Blanche was great (12 miles, 4200 ft), hiked that a few weeks ago. All other hikes are class 2-3 scrambling. Sundial Peak was very sketchy, so maybe have someone with you, I didn’t and almost died 😬. Hope that helps you with deciding what to hike😁👍🏼. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks for that info Matt, glad to hear you’re returning and taking on Timpanogos, which I have heard great things about! You’ll be a Utah expert soon! Only other thing I wanted to say is that I have a sawtooths trip planned for later this summer and it was greatly inspired by your series of videos there. I hope to tackle at least 2 of those hikes, and potentially summit Thompson Peak!

@@TheMountainMatt @The Mountain Matt I have an update on this thread- I had a great summer of hiking! The Wasatch was a more tame trip for me- just Red Pine Lake, Clayton Peak and 10420. The Sawtooths were a 10/10 though! I ended up backpacking the Alice-Toxaway loop and doing Goat Lake as well. With minimal wildfire smoke, the views were great! I am eager to go back and bag some peaks now.

@@alechill4393 those are sweet hikes in the Wasatch! So glad you had good weather in the Tooths 👍🏼… we got smoked out and rained out in Glacier last week. Some of the smoke cleared out in the afternoon though. Heading to the Tetons in a couple weeks for more 😁. That loop was probably amazing! I bet you got a huge list of hikes made up now 💪🏼. Glad your summer was a good one in the mountains like mine Alec.

Awesome hike. I didn't know there was a trail from the backside. I've looked at the front side from Horsetail Falls, but haven't made the hike yet. Funny thing is I have climbed the other Box Elder Peak in Cache Valley. I wished I could see my son at the tops of those Peaks, but I have a daughter that enjoys that stuff more. Great to see these Utah videos. I'm working my way back through your older videos.

Box Elder Peak is a great hike, indeed. The other trail, from Granite Flats, is even better, in my opinion, and loop around to the west side of the peak, from that same trail i mentions, is even greater. 16 miles to loop up and around, returning to the same trail/ TH. Nice work fellas!

I saw the title "Box Elder Peak" and thought it was the other "Box Elder Peak" in Utah, the one that I look at every day out of my window here in Box Elder County. It's also a thigh burner and the views of northern Utah from its summit are also amazing. The Wellsville Range that it dominates is actually the steepest mountain range in the world when you compare its base to its height. Hawk watchers make the climb once or twice a year to track numbers of migrating raptors.

@@goodparentingbrighterchild1966 Thanks! I have the original Mavic Air. it's taken a lot of flight time and researching how to fly well to get the shots I like. I'm still learning and getting better. If you play video games you can figure out how to fly well🤣. Although, there is a lot of little things to learn about videography to get the shots you really want. Lots of good videos out there that help with that. I currently use a GH5 with lumix lenses while I give a GoPro 7 to the girls and Dalton, while we're on our adventures. One thing about flying drones, there are a ton of rules and regulations about flying in NPs and wilderness areas that can get you into big trouble with the FAA. I've learned the hard way.
