Just heard the news last night that Steve Richards, know as Columbo had sadly passed. His son Dave Richards came into the pub to tell my uncle late last night. I believe he passed on Friday or early Saturday morning. To my dads friend and a true hard man RIP Columbo. They do not and will not make em like that anymore.

What a heart Colombo had! He is a Middleweight fighting a Heavyweight, proper Gentleman, R.I.P fella, a humble guy who trained kids in his spare time, an example to all men.Best wishes to his family.

loved that, used to have it on vhs and I was lucky enough to get to write to cliff field through his great friend and carer Redd. Drink may have got him in the end but what a great man, totally honest about his shortcomings and very funny indeed. RIP big man, you`ll never be forgotten.

That was a well presented, film, edited documentary of a point in time. Thanks for posting. The Rainbow was well known as the base for Frank Warren's challenge to the BBBofC and the cartel of Jarvis Astaire, Mickey Duff, Harry Levene, Mike Barrett and Terry Lawless. Warren, as we know, was ultimately successful and made the transition to the Professional arena. I was aware of Cliff Fields and remember him as being at No10 in the British HW rankings of the day but this is the first time I've actually seen him. I was aware of Ron Redrup, similarly from past reading of old Boxing mags. To this day, though, I'm baffled by references to Harry Starbuck, who I've never seen; nor do I know what the looked like. That apart, great doc so thanks again.

Colombo did my corner at the circus tavern. I don't really know who he was. I must still owe him £50 out of the £300 I made that night? Alan Mortlock just said he's get someone to help me. I would like to thank Columbo and wish I still could I need to look up his history

Is that ref for the fields fight the same guy Roy shaw battered? No offence meant as I thought shaw was over the top in the liberties taken in that fight? I might be naive there I admit. But the fields fight in this doc is probably the most respectable fight I’ve seen so far in unlicensed boxing.

I remember a story Steve Colombo told me ...Years ago load of the Chaps from Old Kent rd went on holiday to Thailand & can't remember the name of the fella who had The Thomas of Beckett at the time organised a fight for Colombo to fight their top fighter in Phuket.Any way Steves says they went down the gym so he could do bit of sparing & train Steve said someone pointed out says thats the fella your fighting in couple of days !!!!! Steve said to me he laughed & said I can't fight him he is like a little boy I kill him no can't fight him so Steve looks around the gym see"s the biggest Thai fella training & says I fight him... no no no your fighting the little fella .Any way big money was all being put on Steve from his pals.Fight night he said kid came out jabbed him couple times then hit him with a glancing right so Steve throughs a jab & the kid goes down.Next the kid gets up kicks Steve in the top of the leg 2-3 time he said his leg was paralysed so he drops to his knees then the kid sets about punching Steve in the head!!!! Steve says next thing hes being woke up !!!! When he was telling me in his accent was funny. They all had a great holiday although not the big money making trip they all thought was gonna happen..He also told me when he was getting out of Hungary years before that he carried a young boy Joe Bugner on his shoulders ....dont know how true but, He always made me laugh Great man..

yes I believe he's passed now. He was the caretaker for my primary school on the old Kent road, pilgrims way. He was good friends with my father. and yes one true hard bastard but a lovely guy.
