The legacy of one individual had a profound impact on not just one country, but an entire continent. France transitioned into modernity thanks to his vision, accomplished in just a few decades. It's disheartening to see that many followed his path with almost no impact. I'm not referring to the wars he initiated, but rather to his visionary approach to state organization and governance. It's truly remarkable to see how much of his influence still remains. I eagerly anticipate watching the movie....

Oppenheimer is not a good historical film. It couldn't be further from the truth. There's no way this will be anywhere close to Waterloo or War & Peace. The battles will probably be a bland CGI fest and inauthentic. It won't have as good visuals anyway because (in my opinion) of that bloody camera filter they keep using which makes everything look bleak & unsaturated - there's more ways to make things look gritty & dark. Others have also pointed out that this portrayal of Napoleon seems too unemotional, or perhaps a bit grumpy. I'm guessing that the film itself will similarly take an overall oppressive & dark tone. Rod Steiger's performance in Waterloo was fantastic, showing the energy and charisma that Napoleon had. Also the actors in that spoke like normal people would, not in the loud whispers that are rife in this trailer.

Dude. This guy almost took Europe. They beat him back and exiled him to an island. He Escaped. He gathered a small force and as he made his way inland, the European force stationed to keep one man in prison on an island came to confront him and kill him, or send him back. But instead he convinced them to join him- and they did. And they returned to try and take Europe again. There are only a couple of speeches that had such a huge impact like that. Imagine every person is armed and ordered to kill or capture you- and he turned them all, all at one time. One speech, Alexander the Great & The Opis Mutiny (youtube it), was recorded. Napoleon's was not. But even if he didn't have to say much, to turn thousands to his side, is still amazing. Only a handful of people in history had this command of presence and influence. If we had another one like this, and just as smart or smarter, we'd be f#!$%d Joaquin is most definitely going to crush it, agree 100.

@@dammitanothernameok my guy you’re being a tad dramatic. The “European force” that was sent to stop Napoleon was a bunch of FRENCH troops, sent by an unpopular French king. It ain’t like it was a bunch of Brits and Prussians that decided to turncoat and join Napoleon. Also gotta remember, the coalition reinstalled a Bourbon as the King of France after exiling Napoleon which was … not a popular move among the French to say the least. Napoleon’s popularity with the troops was always one of his calling cards. Given the situation, it honestly would have been more surprising if the troops had actually arrested Napoleon than it is that they joined him.

@@dammitanothername He did take Europe, except Britain. Probably the most consequential life terms of the effects of his decisions,, on the model world. He is the reason that Germany and Italy were able to form. Without his epic failure bankruptcy and fall from grace of the French military and economy in the next century, by comparison to previous centuries, there is no chance that These countries would have been formed out of the Organised Chaos that was the Holy Roman Empire. Even in our timeline, when France was a shadow of its former self, In the 19th century, it still became the 2nd country to industrialise behind Britain, so if it had remained a diplomatic, economic and military power house in that century, it would have forced A lot of ifs Will on the rest of "continental "Europe, just like it did in previous centuries.France was practising divide and conquer tactics throughout its history, just like Britain, and eventually the USA

It is remarkable how often this genre of historical movies is not only distorting the historical facts or not putting them into proper context, but especially this formats by R.Scott are ridiculously overblown and hollywood-like unrealistic and far from subtle and intriguing . I would perhaps watch in in a plane once -but never would buy a ticket for a cinema ! Really I wish someone would make really good historical movies again ( Waterloo was a great one actually with Rod Steiger as Napolen ! Amazing ! Acting this with depth and subtleness ) . But that was by S.Bondarchuk - what a director . What a clear vision - very convincing ! He could do without all this super-effects !
