Another underrated artist. Boz Scaggs has such a distinctive voice and Silk Degrees is a phenomenal album.

Boz is smooth as silk. He has a great album called SOME CHANGE, with songs like "Sierra." "Lost It," "Time," "Illusion," "Call Me" "Follow That Man," and 'I'll Be The One." These are all hidden gems that show his soulful sound and songwriting skills. More Boz, please, Shawn. It's a rabbit hole you want to go down.

Can't say much about Silk Degrees from Boz Scaggs...nothing but greatness. Whole album just fantabulous with everything...instrumentation, vocals. Again ...nothing but love it...🎤🎶👍

Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, and Donald Fagan from Steely Dan got together in 2010 and put on a pretty neat live show. Saw them in Chicago at the Chicago Theater.

Boz's next album also had Jeff Porcaro on drums and David Hungate on bass even after the formation of TOTO but David Paich left Boz to focus on the band. They also added TOTO guitarist Steve Lukather to the mix but without Paich's co-songwriting the hits weren't there. His next charting single was 4 years later with "Jojo". His final Top 20 hit was an unfinished TOTO track 1981's "Miss Sun" which featured every member of TOTO except lead singer Bobby Kimball. Boz didn't record another album for seven years after that.

Oh man I love this song! It’s so tight! Boz Shaggs is from Texas and grew up with Steve Miller. I think they had some kind of garage band In high school.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this elsewhere in comments about Boz, but his band was so good that he encouraged them to go out on their own (just as Linda Ronstadt did with her band, now known as the Eagles). Boz's band did become their own thing. Name? Toto!

The whole "Silk Degrees" album is great. Remember when it came out in 1976. It has a bluesy sound to it. Two of his most famous songs from that album are "Lowdown" & "Lido Shuffle". Some other songs are "It's Over", "What Can I Say", "We're All Alone", "Harbor Lights", "Jump Street" etc.

When you get in the mood for a ballad try Boz on “Look What You’ve Done To Me” or “Heart Of Mine”

Boz is still playing today, his last album was released in 2018. If you want more like Lowdown, try JoJo. For a more funky sound try Angel Lady or Hercules. For more R&B try What Can I Say or You Make It So Hard (To Say No). For super smooth ballads (he's a master) try Slow Dancer, Harbor Lights and We're All Alone. He's played with a wide range of session artists and with or without the guys from Toto, his music is superb!

The era of the best music and voices. Bob Seger, Santana, The Doobie brothers, ELO, Player, 10cc, Alan Parsons Project, Bee Gees, Credence Clearwater Revival aka CCR, Gerry Rafferty, Steely Dan I could go on, but there are just too many.... 🙂 I am sure others also have favorites.

I may be mistaken but I think the shuffle is the double bass drum hit followed by the snare hit creating a triplet shuffle sound.

"Missing the boat" is figurative and not literal; it usually referred to failing to achieve what a person set out to achieve; can also imply that someone doesn't understand a situation. I also felt that Lido was hustler trying to make that last score. Just a thought.

One of my absolute favorite songs from early childhood on forward. It always gets to me every time. And of course at that young age Toto didn't even exist yet and once they did I immediately ran out to buy their single of Hold The Line. I probably would have freaked out if I'd known that a lot of those guys were part of this other earlier song by Boz Skaggs that I loved so much. This song was so well-liked across multiple genres and I know I played the single to it over and over and over, and it was on the radio so much. Lido is a compulsive GAMBLER, thief and con-man. Song is laden with street slang, innuendo and references scores and busts ('miss the boat' means a missed opportunity) - This whole album is smooth as silk. Try HARBOR LIGHTS, which they call YachtRock these days, but it's actually Westcoast Jazz. Plenty of other albums minus the TOTO musicians, but next most popular one (MIDDLE MAN - 1980) also featured TOTO members hired as session musicians and shared songwriting credits - it went Platinum. My favorite from that is BREAKDOWN DEAD AHEAD.

No, losing band members to Toto didn't make Boz lose his magic. He (and the band) were all good enough to stand on their own. As others have mentioned, Harbor Lights, Slow Dancer, We're All Alone are killer ballad-style songs of his, and the rest of Silk Degrees is also worth hearing all of. No filler on this album whatsoever!

I believe that Lido is a small-time criminal trying to stay a step ahead of the cops and the mob.
