Jamal - I have to say I'm surprised I haven't seen a reaction to Parliament's Flashlight from the 70's from you. That is grand funk on a grand scale. It's one of the most complex funk grooves I've ever heard and I defy you to listen to it without getting up and gettin' DOWN.

Boz co-wrote this song with David Foster-(the hit man) for the movie ‘Urban Cowboy’ 1980 so it’s about the same age as Jojo etc .. this video was a great version as the original was a little different but not by much .. Boz is one of the most underrated musicians of that time period . Always enjoy his music 🎵

@@roadkill7314 I sure do consider myself to be! The third act was a single singer, Jeff LeBlanc. Would more expect him as a bar or winery act but he was fairly good. But, man! Robert Cray and his band were SO good. His bass player up there chewing gum and still keeping time. That would mess me up! lol Keyboardist and drums were crazy good. This was my summer of live music and although I saw an incredible performance by ZZ Top just a few weeks ago, this one just edges them out as my favorite for the summer (mostly because their opener was good but a bit boring to be opening for ZZ Top).

As I do on a LOT of your reactions. 🙂 This song was released in 1980- ALWAYS takes me to one of my favorite movies ,Urban Cowboy with John Travolta and Debra Winger. Just like the song “Up where we belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warrens takes me to the fantastic movie Officer and a Gentleman. With Richard Gere and and again Debra Winger. Love Debra ,Sally Fields and Sissy Spacek acting. They really bring the true raw, “grit” to a movie- LOVE these songs AND movies! Plenty more as well. 😁💜🌟

The director of the movie Urban Cowboy called up Box Scaggs and David Foster and said they needed a love song for the movie, and fast. So David Foster and Boz Scaggs wrote this song in just 30 minutes, Then David, Boz, and members of TOTO and The Eagles cut the song in about 6 hours, put the tapes on a plane to the film shoot so the director could hear it and put in the film. The female background vocals were added later for the actual release of the soundtrack of the film. :-)

Boz Scaggs has an amazing voice. His concerts are so much better than his records, if that’s possible.❤️

Boz is an old friend of Steve Miller. Boz was brought into Miller's earlier band (when in high school at ages 15 and 16 yrs) to sing, and rejoined Steve again for the first two albums by The Steve Miller Band in the 60's. Boz has been to Miller's ranch in southern Oregon; I worked on Miller's ranch in the early to mid 80's...to when Steve sold the ranch in '86.
