Read a story about Boz Scaggs in Rolling Stone several years back. He has a habit of going on tour with his gang and at the end, he divides up the proceeds equally between all band members, regardless of position. His share is the same as the drummer or background vocals. No wonder they stick with him for years.

I have loved this song for 30 + years, It's a great "road Trip" jam...and Boz is a classic, I'm sure your Mom would remember his slow jams, (Love, Look What You've Done to Me, We're All Alone,) His music has held up through the years, and remains a staple of Pop, Soul/Funk and Jazz fans. I have Lowdown on a couple of my play lists, right before Jojo and Lido Shuffle. Boz is still out there doin' it, as far as I know..So happy you took the time to get a taste of his music.

He is definitely still doing it. Saw him last summer for maybe the fourth time. Smooth and soulful as ever. I wore out Silk Degrees. Saw Boz in an uber concert with Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles. Just wow. This song was one of my workout songs back in the day. I have to put Goergia at the top of my Boz list too. Great composer Mr. Skaggs. Nothing you can't handle.

I never thought that his live version will match so well the studio version. This song is not meant to be explained. It is one of those songs that I wish it never ends. Jazzy, refreshing, with soul taste and soft rock. Your body sway naturally without effort of your part. Groovy and the background sweet voices with cadence and class. The ultimate tune for a night of dance and romance. The bass, the guitar and that sax with unexpected turns made my head spin. This song for me never gets old since day one

In this performance he’s older, and the “Kermit the Frog” qualities are more pronounced. His younger voice, the one I’m most familiar with, had a slightly rounder quality. Ya, that bass line...

This song was released when I was a young Airman in the Air Force and when my son was born. Someone mentioned TOTO but didn’t mention one of the best drummers ever that recorded/created this beat and played on everybody’s albums. A founding member of TOTO Jeff Porcaro.. The label was dropping Boz after this album (Pre decided) but the band pretty much did it for nothing moneywise yet created one of the biggest selling albums ever. Silk Degrees made Boz a star and he gave them all 30k each for helping him. A really cool story of true musicians helping each other. Look up Jeff Porcaro @MRM You will see all the hits some you have reacted to. Peace ✌🏻

This is one of the great songs off of one of my favorite albums of all time, Silk Degrees. There is NOT one bad or filler track on the album. If you haven’t already done so listen to the album cut or the extended version from that time. Boz came out of The Steve Miller Band (Joker) and this album was recorded in North Hollywood, CA (The Valley) and featured many members of The Wrecking Crew, including Louie Shelton on guitar who in the studio riffed what would become the signature sound of the song. Three other members of the band went on to form Toto (Africa) and David co-wrote with Boz the songs. There is history all over this album. It is a masterpiece. Nice reaction.

Ahhhhhh!!!! Great choice of a song. Boz Scaggs takes me back to the disco days of the mid 70's. Don't let his voice now, fool you. It does sound a little funny as he's gotten older. Listen to the original studio version. His voice is much clearer and crisper. That being said, I hadn't heard that song in a long time and it does bring up a lot of memories. And you're right about the weed LOL.

Listened to this one on cassette endlessly traveling from gig to gig. Even played "The Lido Shuffle and "We're All Alone" quite a bit at the time (1976). Genre fusions were the thing in the mid-70s. Skaggs kind of fushioned the fusions of the time to create something special. Groove/pocket/feel was everything back in those days, along with the lush production values afforded by 16 and 24 track tape machines and the new recording consoles. Everything came together right for this album - songs, musicians, producer - and, of course, the timing.

Boz Scaggs grew up in the Dallas, Texas area (Plano, TX specifically. back when it was still a little farm town.) He was friends with Steve Miller who grew up in nearby in Dallas. Boz became the vocalist in Steves band, the Marksmen. They later attended college together, playing in bands. Boz appears on Steve's first two albums. When I was in film school, we had to do a project for Communications class, and we were given the assignment of defining the concept of Self-Fulfillment on the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs pyramid. I danced the Hustle to this song. We got an A for the project because our point about self-fulfillment was part of the Disco scene where people could go into the Discos and pretend to be whatever they wanted people to think they were, which is what the Dirty Lowdown is all about. Someone who isn't all that running around pretending to be all that.

I liked this version, but the studio version from 45 years ago when Boz was a much younger man (as were we all) was a tad better. He has to be in his early 70s, because I'm 64, and I think he's about 8 yrs older then me. He is so smooth. Lido Shuffle was another huge hit he had in the 70s. Thanks MRM.

I didn't realize how much I liked Boz Scaggs until I got his Anthology CD's - there's a wealth of music on there that I was not familiar with - he had a treasure trove of music on that album. Both discs are full.

Oh Mr Steve, thank you for bringing this! Silk Degrees...Boz Skaggs would play over the system when I was at work back in the day...I ask you, HOW'S A WOMAN SUPPOSED TO KEEP WORKING when this groove sounds off?! I danced amidst the clothing racks I was stocking, that's how. Good stuff.
