Your 2-car DMU is a Class 110, built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Works (BRCW) for the Calder Valley line in West Yorkshire/Lancashire - all were allocated to Hammerton Street Depot in Bradford after 1976, and later Neville Hille Depot in Leeds after 1984 (although the second batch were initially allocated to Netwon Heath in Manchester). They lasted in service from 1963 to 1991, and were refurbished in 1979/80. Two units are preserved - a 2-car unit on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway; and a 3-car unit on the East Lancashire Railway.

Another great budget model railways video.....Mike,I wonder if you realise how much you ‘ give ‘ to this hobby of ours?.....I’ve followed you from the very early days of cardboard base boards, home wood, rattan central ,3D printing, and your own merchandise ,and even your own exhibition!....your models and your videos are some of the best on you tube, and it is small wonder that you now have over 20,000 subscribers....I’m sure you have encouraged a lot of younger modellers because of these.....just want to say, brilliant job, well done and keep up the good work!🚂🚃

The two car 110 in all-blue first appeared around 1989, but I have the 3-car earlier version in 'refurbished' white/blue livery. The model first appeared in the Hornby 1982 catalogue. It's supposed to evoke the Calder Valley route.

@@BudgetModelRailways I took advantage of the body lengths on my track- noticeably shorter than a trailer from say the Lima 117, the cars of which are about the length of a Mk1 each. The Class 142 cars are better still. There is a 'micro-layouts' book which shows you how to create contermporary-era layouts in a small space.

If you have the width this does give you a lot more shunting potential. You could make it narrower by dispensing with the road down the back if needed. Happy to help, any questions just ask

Nice bit of variety today! True enough about branch traffic, but then there were so many more fright workings. I thankfully see much of it from my driving cab to and from Thameshaven and Ripple Lane on our line, c2c (or historically, LTSR). Indeed, until not long ago, Ripple Lane was but a shadow of its former self and Thameshaven desolate and ripped up after cessation of oil traffic. However, both are now enjoying a renaissance, the former as a now busy junction for domestic traffic to meet the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and the latter due to the new deep-water container terminal. There is also a new terminal on the site of Tilbury Power Station and traffic from the docks is up too, so I am actually spoilt in modern terms!😎 Great to see this wee gem really coming into its own again. Any progress planned for that wee port layout you were doing recently? 👍🤔
