Loving the Dental Coving design on the main station. Great roof trusses too; very prototypical. As a builder I'm glad to see the extra detail that makes all the difference. It's a credit to you pal. The cobbling looks very slick, but in between the points will be interesting. Pretty sure you'll do a fine job of that too. Need to watch the rest of the build now !!

I think those buildings are some of your best workings.Very impressive Mike.On a slightly less skill full but i enjoyed making it,i made a sort of church ruin out of cardboard,did the old black pen trick for building blocks,and weathered it with acrylic paints.I also made a rickety old footbridge again made of cardboard (like a Indiana Jones type footbridge) and used tooth pics cut into various lengths with a fine cord as the hand rail ! But the enjoyment was 10 fold over one of those expensive Hornby plastic jobbies lol ;) Keep up the great work Mike and Doug,you truly have inspired a lot of people including me,to have a go at making things.

@@BudgetModelRailways Bang on Mike as you said in one of your previous videos,we are losing the ability to make things ourselves.I will give you an example,i now make my own bushes and shrubs from used kitchen sponges (thanks to Gormo in Australia) Cut them up into small pieces,put them in a cheapo coffee grinder with some acrylic paint and whalop there you have it,its just as good as the stuff the major makers as well.

Splendid building. I take the reference of the book you gave, and won't forget to take a drawing pad and a ribbon meter next time I'll go in holidays in the UK. Those buildings look great. The station shed reminds me of Wick and Thurso in terms of size. Some station buildings with roofs had them partially removed like at Whitby and Pickering when it was too expensive to maintain them particularly after wartime damage so you could try modelling that. Pickering finally had its roof replaced by the NYMR in preservation.

Good work and I may have an idea here. Next to the goods shed you could put an engine where a pilot could live and (after a few shunting moves which I know you will enjoy figuring out) you can get a loco to bring in a train and have it leave still at the front. I did test this and it does work without any of the isolation those ´serious modelers´ claim you need for pilot operations.

Looking good. the building is looking terrific, as an aside, a copy of that book in Australia is being offered for over $100 - I think I'll give it a miss. Look forward to the next update.

Lovely! Something tells me that you need a little crane, the hand-operated sort used to get goods between boats, wagons, trucks etc. Are you going to have one?

Nice one, man! Your layouts and model-making skills just keep getting better and better. What's the biggest layout you've ever built beside the one in your loft, and would you consider building another larger one in the future? :)

The loft is the biggest but it's not finished! Sadly not sure we have anywhere else big to put a layout

Watching your harbour layout you said you use mount board for most of the build , could you give me a link to the sort of stuff you use and could you tell me what you used for the square detailing on the harbour masters house and station thanks 👍
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways 3 жыл бұрын
Mounting board is what picture framers use, you can buy it from craft shops like hobby craft or do what I do and get off cuts cheap from a picture framers. Its what I use for most buildings and what I made all the square detailing from. Cereal pack card has its uses too

Fantastic buildings, I am assuming you are using only one controller? Could you mention how the layout is wired for a novice like myself, many thanks.
@edwardgray6167
@edwardgray6167 3 жыл бұрын
Its DC. The wires are attached to fish plates so they can go at any end. There are some other videos on the channel which explain how to do them which I think were fairly recent.

There are two sets of wires, one at the entrance one at the end of the headhunt, using insulating points these power the whole layout. I will feature it in a video but we also have quite a few on this subject
