BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 1980's
CHESTER STATION on 14th April 1987
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Chester taken on 14/04/1987. This was supposed to have been uploaded a little while back... I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated,but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. This Scene has changed so much. The only part of that depot left is what i'm assuming is the the shunter shed !........ Thank you for posting this. am really enjoying your videos.

As a kid I always remember changing trains at Rock Ferry (later Hooton) for the diesel to Chester/Helsby...

The opening 47 on TEA tank wagons avoiding the station is 7F28 Whittington to Stanlow empty tanks. I was on the job 2nd & 28th April unfortunately not the 14th as I was on leave.

Sidings at Whittington (or Babbinswood as we called it) were only finally removed recently to. The oil depot having just paved over where they were. Pass the depot several times a week on the cement trains.

This video was shot about when had my best cab ride ever,from Holyhead to Chester on a non stop relief, with a 47/ 8,can’t remember number,was hell of run,nutter driver,from speedo had 99mph on Anglesey and 90 mph from Bangor to Chester,took curves excessively too, arrived Chester about 20 mins early despite stop Bangor centre road for trespassers Menai bridge area,imagine was lively ride on train,driver also let me blow horn,ahh the good old days,when could cab ride and trains could speed,was so lucky have run like this in cab,was great driver,chatty and great spend time with
