Used to be great fun at night at Retford seeing the MGRs, mostly 56s if I remember. Before that, it would have been 20s, 40s and 76s up in the Guide Bridge to Sheffield, Wath, Tinsley areas. That was back in the 70s though. Thanks for the video, great memories of a real working railway.

Am I right in thinking that Victoria could be quite an unpleasant place at times back then? Have heard a few friends talking about how it had a reputation for being a bit sleazy. I suppose like so many other train stations back then, Kings Cross being the most famous example.

Excelled stuff! My nan and grandad had a van near Prestatyn right next to the train line and I used to just sit watching for trains all day back in the 80s when I was little and had hair. I remember when the Super Sprinter was considered new and I’m only 49 😂 Miss those days (and the days when you could stick your head out of the window for some fresh air). I now know what I’ll be spending my weekend watching. Cheers for uploading all these!

Not a silly question...In the nose some air equipment and also equipment for the Vacuum system was situated. The headcode panel was in there too and isolating cocks for the air systems . Its ironic that only 35 years later the "new" station which is unbelievably crap 80s architecture is being engulfed by a monster development of bland tower blocks similar to how East Croydon is now. They are guaranteed to age badly and need replacing in a generation.
