@@shanehebert396 yes! Dave brought the fun “cool” stuff to their party rock era. He was/is the biggest ego in music and still fun to hear give interviews. In his mind he is the greatest rock n roll front man in history. Eddie of course is the GOAT. Alex in drums is among the best, and Micheal Anthony is also great. I also enjoyed the Sammy Hagar stadium rock decade. Those are all great songs too and transitioned to the 90’s better than Dave would have. I actually also love the VH3 album with Gary Cherone. I only got to see them live for the Balance tour and VH3 tour. The VH3 show was probably better as Gary was great live and would do old stuff too. Sammy would not do the old songs except the hits like Jump and Panama.

Its not about optimism, its about his woman is saying about how bad life is for her and she keeps complaining. He's saying "well I've tried all I can to cheer you up, if things are really that bad you might as well jump out the window of the penthouse". On a side note when this song was big in the charts there was a traffic jam in new York because a woman was threatening to jump off a bridge, it was on the news and everything, the most requested song on the local radio station during this stand off was Jump by Van Halen lol. @@thatsjustlikeyouropinionma3025 I don't think so, there is too little in the lyrics to go on, but it seems more like he's telling some girl to come on to him. He's not telling her to top herself, he is saying why you gotta be like this all the time, if this is gonna be your attitude towards life go ahead.....JUMP!. Davis Lee Roth wrote the song after seeing a man jump to his death, he then said to his then girlfriend "you think your life is tough? think of that guy" again its not about trying to get her to jump he's trying to change her mindset from being a drama queen and arguing about everything and have some fun. Legend say the inspiration for the lyrics came from a guy who was on a roof top menacing to jump from it and put an end to his life. Everyone was yelling at him "Don´t Jump!" and David Lee Roth, watching the event on TV though about the opposite: "Jump!" as "just do it". But not literally to take his life, rather than that "Jump" is telling to that guy to take the bull by the horns and work for his hapiness. In the lyrics you can see how David talks to him: "You got it tough?, I´ve seen the Toughest around. And I know you feel, you got to roll with the punches to get to what´s real". He is telling the guy, that sure life is hard, but you need to put the effort to make it work.

David Lee Roth wrote the lyrics around a single phrase, "Go ahead and Jump." He came up with the line after watching the news and seeing a man on top of the Arco Tower threatening to commit suicide. He thought there's always at least one person in the crowd yelling go ahead and jump. There's a lot more about the song. Parts of it were written while in their tour bus long before it ever grew to a full song. They'd keep going back to what they had and fill in the blanks.

The audio from Jump is used a lot around NBA shows from the talk shows to entering game time. The true meaning behind the song is if you want something bad enough you need to face your fears and just jump into it.

Another great reaction guys. Interesting take on the lyric "record machine". I always took that to be him leaning against a juke box in a bar or something, but maybe he is talking about the music industry. Who knows, David Lee Roth's lyrics are usually pretty abstract. Love to see a reaction to Van Halen's Mean Streets or Little Dreamer

@@DzBeats Meh, it was decent at best - films that trade so much on nostalgia in such an on the nose way are hopelessly derivative. You can't say it's good really as it's relying so much on pre existing media (made by other film makers) to drive that nostalgic feeling, without which the storyline would be somewhat thinner and less entertaining. (yes I know some of that pre existing media is also Spielberg, but most of it is not) It's the same reason Stranger Things did so well - trading on nostalgia seldom falls flat if done well, but derivative it still remains. Taking all that nostalgic media out of the film would be like taking Kashmir samples out of Come With Me, or that song that samples Foreigner - Cold As Ice.

@@mnomadvfx you have a valid point but i tend to enjoy things for what they are i dont look deep into it and try to break it down. if i watch it and i enjoy it through and through then thats that. im also more of an action junkie then i am story. if something has really good fight scenes then the story matters less to me honestly.

The lyrical story about Jump has something to do with David Lee Roth over hearing on the radio news that cops were trying to prevent someone from comitting suicide by jumping off a bridge. As traffic and all were getting held up, I think thats when DLR came up with "oh might as well just jump!"

Hey Lex, To answer your question from 5:10-5:13; "people don't change, only times change". That is an absolutely true and brilliant quote. He's saying he lives life at a good energy. you got it tough, he knows just how you feel, he has it tough at times, but be tough enough to handle it. he is saying rolling with the punches lets us get to what we're ready to work for, for what's real. Not letting things get him down, (thinking of himself as attractive )standing with his back against the record machine (checking out ladies) 'hey girl, check me out over here. I know that I ain't the worst that you've seen, c'mon and jump, might as well jump( on this). and someone yells out 'hey, how are you?' so he yells back, 'who said that, baby, how you been?' he's saying you won't know that until you begin. the song is a snapshot. a few seconds conversation. It is a 4 decades long journey as well so the message, wanna know where you'll be on the journey to getting what you want? go ahead and jump, roll with the punches, and get to what's real
