Brain Control Through Big Pharma - Forget about life-work-balance. A new generation of drugs promise unlimited increases in productivity without the need for rest or sleep.
Brain Control Through Big Pharma (2011)
Director: Christian Schidlowski, Hannah Prinzler
Genre: Documentary
Country: Germany
Language: English
Also Known As: Bigger, Better, Faster, More: Brain Doping
Synopsis:
Drugs that "enhance" thinking are nothing new-caffeine and even more addictive substances have, for better or worse, altered our cognitive abilities for centuries, while medications have long been prescribed for conditions like ADHD. But scientists are at work on entirely new kinds of brain-boosting advances which will be non-addictive (theoretically, at least) and designed for general use. This program explores some of those innovations as it visits neuroscience research laboratories around the world. From the brave new world of "intelligence pills" to the technique known as transcranial direct current stimulation, pioneered by University of Sydney professor Alan Snyder, the film helps viewers assess the possibilities at hand. Is a new era of human creativity dawning, or will the end results amount to cosmetic neurology or worse?

It don't work that way. It would be just like that video of a sheep that gets stuck in a ditch, and as soon as the farmer pulls it out, the sheep makes a U turn and falls right back into the ditch. As long as ignorance and laziness are still ravishing society, any miracle drug would only be a temporary "fix".

Psilocybin is a good way to reach the same effect of blocking one side of the brain. Pretty much seems like to me. Anecdotally

I oversimplified yes you're going to say it's a 5-ht2a serotonin receptor agonist which is true. Or you might say that it is an nmda receptor agonist downstream which is also true. But to simplify it even More you'd have to understand the default mode Network and I'm an oversimplify that by calling it the ego. Now with all that out of the way I'll say it in layman's terms it quiets the ego which is often at terms with logic. The default mode network is what it quiets to be specific which has to do with basically your emotions and rumination and when you quiet that part of the brain it makes a person think more logically and makes them be able to see their emotions even more. Logically. Potentially

They have machines that measure brainwaves and people who are under the influence of psilocybin don't get one half of their brain shut down, rather the opposite is true.

It's not true that we only use 10% of our brains, We just only know what 10% of our brains actually does

I keep trying to f****** reply to you and stupid app. Keeps deleting it. And I hate that about this KZfaq app. But I just wanted to say that. We may only use 10% normally and if we use a drug that enhances performance. Say, we use 30% 1 day and then the next day we use again. Well, we're only at 25% and the next day it goes down and it can actually get in the negative if you're using too much period There is part of your brain that needs to sort out memories and get rid of what isn't important period your brain needs to sleep and eat and You might actually lose the part of your brain that keeps you grounded in reality. If a drug could increase your intelligence , it could also increase rates Depression and anxiety. Being intelligent is not always fun. When you can really see what's going on in the world, it's depressing. It's sad. The world is full of suffering. Sometimes it's better to not know. I believe the right amount for the right people is a very good thing. But too much affects your thinking and behavior negatively. If we use the "gifts" of our brain, then we also pay a toll. Sure, it can increase brain power. But it can also decrease your ability to regulate your emotions and inhibitions. You may form more connections while using, but are those connections positive? Important? Or do they cause your mind to spin?

I keep trying to reply and it keeps you f****** deleting my reply. But I just wanted to say that if we use years of performance enhancing drug to one day use thirty percent of our brains, then we are borrowing from the other functions and future processing. The next time you use the next day them it's 25% and eventually it's 5% more connections isn't always better. Being intelligent and understanding can lead to depression and anxiety. It can make your head spin. We need sleep and food and subconsciousness. We need our autonomic nervous system to work. We need our behavior and emotions regulated. Some people need the right dose for the right thing. But using more brain isn't always better better for you...
