Hello Doctor, Thank you for this very interesting and clearly detailed video. I am 58 years old and have been taking finasteride 1,25/day for 24 years. The results are outstanding since my hair loss has been completely stabilized and new hair has grown. Recently, when I had my blood taken, I learned that my total testosterone level as well as my free testosterone level were far below normal. I was diagnosed with andropause. My doctor prescribed a monthly injection of testosterone. He also told me that finasteride was contraindicated for andropause without explaining why. So I don't know what to do. Should I really stop taking finasteride which has done a perfect job so far ? Thank you for your advice.

Thank you for this video, it came at perfect timing. I am wondering two things. Since starting finasteride 1 month ago, the first two weeks I had regular light hair fall (around 10 noticeable hairs per day) but the last two weeks my shedding has increased to 150 noticeable hairs per day. Is it possible to start the shed so quickly (after only 2 weeks on fin) and how long does a shed usually last? My other question is I noticed my alcohol tolerance has decreased a lot (which I’m fine with) but does small alcohol intake hurt finasteride absorption?
@hairtransplantinindia

Shedding can start this early! It usually lasts 6-8 weeks. Alcohol tolerance with Finastreide depends also upon your liver function tests.

Finasteride interferes with neurosteroids such as Allopregnanolone which as a neurosteroid have prosexual, anxiolytic and cognitive effects. It's very easy to see how 5ar inhibitors can lead to a significant degradation of mental and physical health in some subpopulations. It's important that people have a handle on key health parameters and track these whilst on the medication. People also need to be realistic in the event of side effects. IMO there's no 'powering through' if you start to experience cognitive decline and other serious side effects early, it's a sign you shouldn't be on the medication. I genuinely believe in 20-30 years time we will see these medications as a mistake. It's a shame it's the best we currently have to treat hair loss.
@fuckooo
@fuckooo Жыл бұрын
@Ri1 It's not a nocebo effect, 5AR is pretty damn important, when you inhibit it you are taking something out of you, but obviously some people have more significant response to others. As I say in the original comment, you have to be dialed into your health anyway, but IF you're hitting side effects with this stuff then you really should think twice about taking it.
@fuckooo
@fuckooo Жыл бұрын
@Ri1 Finasteride can present significant problems, especially to certain subpopulations of individuals. Stop being a propagandist. The key point I am making is that you need to be sensible, be on top of your blood work and be on top of your overall health prior to taking finasteride and then track these parameters over time. If you are dialed into all of these things and then face side effects then guess what, it's because of the finasteride, no ifs no buts.

Doctor, I have gone through few research articles about natural form of alphareductase inhibitor. The common suggestion seems to be intake of saw palmetto , pumpkin seeds and soyabean. Still am curious though it can take prolonged time for results. Is those food items give same effect as from finastride . Or is it advisable to take those natural products to offset the implications of finastride and protect decent healthy hair follicles.

Thanks. Topical does not work. Research is still underway to make the molecule penetrate in sufficient amount directly to the root without entering the blood stream. You will find many studies in clinical medicine that are to be taken with a pinch of salt. Most people waste precious time and then the baldness is tooo hard to mitigate. I have had several such clients over the years.

Topical Finasteride works. DHT is not the monster but the androgen receptors in the hair root or follicles are the monsters. Topical Finasteride goes and blocks it. I just wonder if topical Finasteride never worked how come minoxydil works. That’s crap. I’m using TRT gel and this penetrates via skin and improves my testosterone levels by 200%. Imagine same way Finasteride and monoxydil both get absorbed via head skin and reach follicles.

Once a side effect like this happens it is difficult to incriminate the real cause unless the patient was consulted in person and various tests were done in the lab. If due to Finasteride alone, it should revert on cessation of the drug.

I seemed to have a shed in the first two weeks, hairloss stabilized a little after that but now I'm experience quite significant brain fog and headaches. Not 100% sure if they're caused by the finasteride but they did come out of nowhere and are not quite like anything I've experienced before. My question would be: - If this is caused by finasteride is there a chance it just goes away after taking the drug for 4-8 weeks and my body getting used to it? - Is there anything I can do to mitigate them? Vitamins I can take etc.? Thanks for your help!

Although this doctor what says is not wrong but information is very vague. All my friends before starting finasteride please please listen to my advice. As a general rule we all should also do this. Go to a good endocrinologist and test for your Total Testosterone, Free Testosterone, estradiol and estrogen, SHBG, LH, FSH, DHT, Dhea etc. If your Total T or Free T is low don’t start Finasteride. Moreover sometimes you may have good Testosterone but high SHBG, as it stands SHBG gobbles up your testosterone. Testosterone that is bound to SHBG is useless. Low free testosterone means low DHT. Your libido is actually controlled by DHT not testosterone as Testosterone is actually converted to DHT and then goes on working with your libido, penis erections etc. however DHT doesn’t help building muscles. DHT as a whole works on sexual organs and hair. Another thing to consider if your estrogen levels are high that means you are aromatising your Testosterone to estrogen. Excess estrogen in males cause weak erections or ED, low libido etc. Don’t mess up with your hormone with finasteride. If you wish to take it continue to do a full hormone testing every 6 months. Our Gnrh or Gonadrophic system works in feedback loop. When testosterone can’t get converted to DHT because of blocked 5 Alpha pathway it goes to the other aromatisation path and gets converted to estrogen. So be mindful we all are different so get yourself tested. Only a testing Total testosterone is not enough.For guys with low T it may also be advisable if you can afford go for TRT or testosterone replacement therapy and then go with finasteride. But continually monitor your hormones.

The body readjusts to the hormonal changes that Finasteride causes in 4-8 weeks and people get over the initial side effects which are not common. What was your total testosterone level before your doctor started you on Finasteride?
@sukeshjph
@sukeshjph 2 жыл бұрын
Have you tested your full body hormones like Total Testosterone, DHT, estrogen , SHBG, LH, FSH etc. Please don’t listen to doctors who recommend Finasteride blindly. Testosterone is a weak androgen in sexual function. It’s actually DHT that drives libido however Testosterone is important in muscle mass development. I suffered from sexual side effects after taking finasteride. I tested all these found my T was borderline normal. The reason is when sexual function is driven by combination of Testosterone and DHT. If T is already low then further reduction in DHT runs havoc .

@@Rohit-rx5rz Finasteride is not for everyone. Before reaching any conclusion please approach an endocrinologist and do a full body test for Total Testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, estrogen, DHT, IGF-1, LH, FSH, BPH. After the results are out if your T levels are good range I mean higher mid range it’s okay to take it. The fact that you are having side effects indicates you have hormonal issues. Also check your Thyroid. Our endocrine system is complicated and runs on a balance. If you want to try Fin then try with care and caution. I’m surprised how Doctors are prescribing this without doing all the tests. That is ridiculous as we all are different. Lead a healthy life, eat moderate Fat, moderate carbs, do strength training. Stop watching porn as that reduces dopamine and indirectly reduces T.
