Whilst you are not incorrect, copper is paramagnetic (due to an unpaired electron). Even though a copper cent is not directly attracted to a magnet, it is affected by them. Therefore, you could theoretically use a powerful magnet to affect the descent of a falling coin. That, combined with the higher weight of copper vs zinc (3.11g and 2g, respectively) should be enough to cause the copper coins to drop at a specific point whilst others go further. It would be interesting to try at least.

No, I like money. Just good to run the calculations first. Even if you buy a Ryedale sorter, you have to figure the volume needed to make up for the machine and at what penny investment level you start to come out ahead. I made the choice to purchase pennies in bulk for 1.54 cents each including shipping. That is the fastest way to start a solid position in this investment. I may still order more depending on pricing. I plan to do more hand sorting, but just for the fun of it mostly.

Pretty cool. You need serious speed to be worth the sorting time though. Hand sorting pays you athe rate of about $1 per hour. You come out light years ahead just buying the pennies pre sorted time and money wise unless you can invent something faster. Hand sorting or slow sorting is basically working for free and it can take 600 hours to sort 200 boxes of 500,000 pennies to obtain 100,000 copper pennies with a face value of $1000. Profit is around $600 for 600 hours work.Plus gas, bank trips...

I'm thinking if a guide was used to allow a penny to slide down and then free fall, this could be tested. with no magnet under them, the different coins should travel different distances at slightly different angles. With a magnet under this path, the copper cents should be affected even more. A divider, or different bins placed at the proper points, would collect the sorted coins.

the pennies fall right in place in the hopper as long as you dont drop to many at a time . rolls of pennies drop right in.

You dont have to scrap them or melt them because they come in a nice convenient small uniformed shape that can be stored in bar form ie rolls. They are 95% copper too so that is more pure than lets say US bullion gold coin 21k with exception to the 24k buffalo indian just recently minted. Melting them is not your problem brotha. Intrinsic value and being US mint is worth more than private bullion anyday. WIN WIN WIN WIN

you are right but .. think about the time that you spend at home just doing nothing ..watching tv...going online...or just chillin.. you can sort and chill at the same time . you can buy or build better than this and you can or could make it happen. anyone that says thay dont have time is so full of it that its silly!!!!!!!!!! time is money! or say fuck money and just enjoy your time. its your choice............

Put two or three holes in that spining disk up top you should be able to double or tripple your output if your actually trying to sort coins

if you drill more holes in the disk it will maybe go faster

magnets will not help you at all . nether nickel zinc or copper will respond to a magnet.
