Hearing about that first chick making so much money and still struggling to "make ends meet" just fills me with so much laughter. She dreams of a life intertwined with Hollywood, so she tries to spend money like they do to imitate them, forever feeding an endless pit of gaping, soulless consumerism and faux importance. It just warms my heart knowing I live on a low income and stretch my money smartly enough to live comfortably - and how if these people were in my shoes they'd minecraft themselves due to not knowing how to be financially conservative and responsible. You, you reading this, can make it in the real world where these brain rotted clowns would falter and crumble upon the first few steps.

The writers guild were given a pretty decent deal and swatted it away because it wouldn't give them the writers room. Now because of that below the line workers like the caterers and technicians are struggling because of them. Influencers and KZfaqrs should ignore the WGA because they're toxic monsters and they probably wouldn't have given them work anyway.
@adamroach3407
@adamroach3407 8 ай бұрын
The writers guild has made several public statements to the effect of “we are being kept from make culture altering stories by the studios and they need to deal”, somehow not realizing that the content they are churning out is the actual problem. The studios bought up hundreds maybe thousands of projects that are narrowcasting to very small and demonstrably unprofitable subcultures. They need this strike to run long enough to get them out of their contractual obligations to make these duds. Somehow SAG-AFTRA isn’t comprehending this. Their sticking point seems to be that the writers want more control over the narrative in production but still want the studios to subsidize the end product. Which means they need the Producers Guild in their pocket, not the studios themselves. Yet the PGA is well aware of the problem. This has been made possible by the ubiquity of offbrand cable networks and streaming services just trying to fill time. All of which can hide actual viewership numbers and even profitability. Yet the big, publicly held, corporations cannot do that. The studios needed this pause because they bought into the cultural rhetoric around Hollywood without understanding the full market implications. This is still a business at the end of the day. This isn’t just about “woke” projects. It’s about low effort product that created a glut of cheap but ultimately unprofitable options during the COVID pandemic that saw streaming numbers skyrocket. Studios bought bad projects that have termination clauses built in. Those clauses can expire during the strike with no financial downside. Yes it sucks for the gaffers, craft services, production side of things but they were going to get pounded in the end one way or another. Those folks get paid to work. The pay is at scale. But the ability to maintain that ecosystem is completely built on profitability. Unlike the writers and actors. When the She-Hulk writer went online and complained about her $3.00 residual check she actually self owned herself. It meant no one was watching her show. She had been paid upfront for work. The residual is to reward success. The caterers and and the electricians don’t get those checks. They never have and never will. This strike is actually about gatekeeping product and that’s a losing position. Profitability dictates activity. Not social relevance. Studios have always lost some money on passion projects but not in large scales. Most passion projects are also often self financed at some level. Sean Penn puts his own money up for those documentaries, so does Roger Moore. That’s how they retain their own voice. SAG-AFTRA wants shareholders to subsidize their cultural message and it’s the share holders that are ambivalent towards this. They care about share prices and corporate dividends. SAG has always struggled with providing for its base membership while not screwing over its actual big earners. It is the very explosion in content platforms, within the Union system, that has caused this problem. There are just too many hacks who haven’t learned their lessons yet demanding outcomes they haven’t earned. In the days of direct to DVD movies, just working was a reward, you were getting on the job training. Today though, everything is tied to a major corporation and a platform and the journeymen don’t realize that they are still in the Grindhouse.

It made me feel a lot less alone on these views that I share with you to see that your demographic has really reached a scale that you probably wouldn’t assume from the average raise of hands and I’m proud to see the momentum that you keep gaining, regardless of KZfaq’s nonsense. In my home country South Africa strikes and unions are as common as rain. But the unions make it clear that not everyone needs to get involved in a strike. Even members don't have to strike. They get punished legally if they go out of line. To see SAG AFTRA force everyone to basically beggar themselves for "solidarity" is madness.

They paused the negotiations so people could celebrate Yom Kippur, and will resume after the weekend if im not mistaken. I wish him the best, but i really hope they remain in strike. This is one of the two major reasons why Unions are *BAD* ideas. Reason 1: Abuse by the unions of their members (they love to project this behavior onto company executives and pretend that only they can do such a thing). Reason 2: It's literally a monopoly of labor. No different from any other monopoly, it screws over the consumer. Rich to watch people who tell us over and over again that monopolies are bad suddenly are in favor of their own monopoly despite it doing the same thing to the end consumer.

The last two generations who have been groomed to be activists at K-12 schools are reaching that breaking point, those crossroads, due to the strikes hitting the Entertainment industry. Which path do they decide to take? Will it be for their interests OR will they succumb/comply to the demands of a union they don't benefit from?
