@@juliagoetia Those traits lessened within him over the course of the show; they still remain within him but to a lesser extent - he was humbled by most of the experiences he had over the course of the events of the show; not to say that he was an angel or a completely morally “good” person, but there’s no denying that he is the “hero” of the story - the character with the least compromised or questionable ethics and the most lawful character (not to say that the law necessitates “goodness” or a moral righteousness). He still does say shitty things; I don’t like how he carelessly speaks about the prospect of Jessie dying whilst making contact with Walt in S5 but it’s understandable considering he’s under considerable stress due to the blackmail tape and considering his understanding of Jesse and the crimes he’s been part of (Jesse wasn’t a lawful character but did hold onto his humanity and tortured himself mentally for all the “bad” he did, yet that doesn’t change the fact that he is a murderer who was at times a willing participant in a meth empire). The characters are all fairly realistic in the sense that even the “good” guys are complex characters with traits which are negative or toxic.

Yeah, I always took that phone call to be Walt and Skylar saying "Goodbye" in code. He did his rant and then went silent, eagerly waiting to hear a confirmation that she understood that he was actually apologizing and trying to make things right by taking the blame off of her. She finally says, "I'm sorry" to play along, and he looks relieved because she gets it. So he can finish his lines. What a fucked up last conversation to have after 15+ years with your spouse.

He loses everything he did all this for. But even in the desert the same could be said with Hank and the money. The most important thing to him is his family and Hank is family too and he got in to the meth business to make money for his family. The saddest part is Walt Jr because he idolized his father.
@israymervalentin-arias6313
@israymervalentin-arias6313 4 жыл бұрын
Both are great but the house is better because that can happen anywhere in the world at any point at any time. The realism cant be outmatched whereas the desert scene is not likely in real life circumstances. In show context Walt showed no amount of money can replace family which is why he was quick to give it up to save Hanks life. Although he lost 90% of his money and Hank, he was content starting a new life with his immediate family and his $11 mil which is why he told them to pack immediately. However the house scene thats where the big chunk of what he has left is now gone so now hes left alone with money he could care less about since he never wanted money for him but for them. House scene wins.

Some trivia for you (most of it from BBpedia): - The episode is named after the 1818 poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley about the inevitable fall of kings and empires; - The flashback at the beginning of the episode is full of symbols echoing the terrifying end of it: 1. Skyler packs and ships away a white statue of a clown crying blood belonging to Walt, that she's been able to sell for more dollars than Walt bought it, and that they both find now ugly. This symbolizes the end of the episode, when Walter White, sad clown with bloodied hands, is sent away by Skyler with his money, and everyone being disgusted by him. 2. They discuss the name of their upcoming child that Walt will abduct at the end of the episode. 3. The knives that Skyler will later use against Walt are conveniently set on the table, their handles offered in her direction. 4. Walt suggests a short break for the family the next weekend, like he will "suggest" they all pack up and leave for no return at the end; - Hank's death scene was shot in one take; - When Walt shakes hands with Jack you can see swastika on the outside of his palm, meaning he pretty much embraces his fate of an anti-hero by shaking hands with the worst form of evil; - The posture Walter falls into after Hank's death is similar to Gus's posture after Max Arciniega's death; - When Walt sits in the car after Jack lets him go he moves the mirror away because he's do disgusted with himself he can't even look at his own reflection; - When Walter looks at the bullet holes in his car, the reflection of him in the metal puts a hole in his forehead; - The pair of pants Walt passes while rolling his barrel are the same pants he lost while driving the RV, at the beginning of the "Pilot"; - Holly's crying "Mama" in the bathroom scene was unscripted. The baby's mother was standing behind Bryan Cranston on set, and the baby locked eyes with her and started saying "mama" over and over again. Cranston simply went with it and the shot ended up in the episode; - During phone conversation between him & Skyler Walt is perfectly aware they are being listened to so he puts all the blame on himself so that authorities would leave Sky alone (you guessed it right but some people are still confused about that); - During the game of chess between the firemen, the white king is cornered, but not checkmated or even in check. The king is simply going behind another pawn, buying time, but not advancing the game, which basically means that "The King's" (Walt's) story isn't over quite yet; - The final shot is a stray dog crossing the street after Walt goes into hiding. This is the third of three major "dog" references in the show. The first is in "Problem Dog", where Gale Boetticher is described as such, albeit in metaphor, by Jesse to his therapy group. The second is "Rabid Dog", which describes Jesse as a dog that may have to be killed before he attacks. This final one, the "Stray Dog", is an obvious reference to Walt, who is now homeless and without his family; - "Ozymandias" is the only TV show episode that has received a perfect 10/10 user rating on IMDb for over a year. It had maintained a 10/10 rating for almost 4 years, and despite lowering to 9.9, as of March 2020 it is back up to its original perfect score of 10/10.

In that exact moment (after the whole Hank thing) he DID blame it on Jessie and he DID want Jessie dead and was waiting for it until Todd interrupted. He blamed him for being the cause of bringing along Hank to that point and situation, for “snitching” and working with Hank. But in the other hand he does care about Jessie, he always did and still does. At the end of the day he was his professor, mentor, partner from the very beginning of this whole operation and a father figure in some twisted way. But for Walter there’s lines, his family is the highest line and Jessie is at a medium-high line, but he crossed it after threatening him and potentially is family on the phone with that “hit you were you really live” threat. But he definitely always had and still has affection for him, but he crossed the line. Walt even put himself at risk and gave Jessie an oportunity to talk even after trying to burn his house down and after Saul and Skyler tried to convince Walt to kill him.
@flickersense
@flickersense 4 жыл бұрын
It's not that Walt cares about Jesse less than he does about his own family, but that Jesse was about to burn his house down, wasn't going to come talk to him and told Walt he's going to get him "where he really lives", while Walt's family wasn't trying to do anything to Jesse. Even if Walt cares about Jesse as much as he does about his family, he isn't going to let one person he cares very much about kill his family who he cares very much about, too, considering they didn't do anything to that person.
@flickersense
@flickersense 4 жыл бұрын
@You don’t give a shit about my name Saying "if Walter jr tried killing Jessie" isn't enough to describe the situation. There are specific circumstances in which a character may or may not act a certain way. For example, is Walter jr going after Jesse for nothing or for something Jesse did? Is Walter jr willing to talk to Jesse? Is Walter jr endangering anybody else when going after Jesse, the same way Jesse was endangering Walt's family. Let's say Walter kills Walt jr for trying to kill Jesse and endangering the rest of the family, is the rest of the family going to stay with him after knowing he killed Walter jr? At this point, it's not just about Walt's feelings towards somebody, but a lot of other things. If Walt kills Jesse, he still has his family. If Walt kills Walter jr, i don't know if his family is going to stay with him.
@J-Nigma

I think in Walt's mind he tried everything he could to stop Jesse and get him to leave but he wouldn't go and because he didn't he got caught by Hank and then the 2 started working together and it became an immediate threat to his family and Walt never would've been out there had Jesse (and Hank) not tricked him. I still think Walt cares about Jesse but he cares about him in the same way you care about a family pet you need to have put down. Walt never wanted this. If he did he would've let Jesse die one of the countless times throughout the series that someone wanted to kill Jesse. But now there was literally no other option because Jesse wouldn't go away and his family was in danger and he lost a family member because of it. And that line about Jane was for the betrayal because of everything they've been through together but also because Jesse knows how much Walt cares about his family. He knows why he got in to it.

Really enjoyed your reactions, ladies. Imon, you're right about Walt's intentions with the phone call -- he said what he did to try and get Skyler off the hook. However, I don't think there's any underlying intention with what he did with Jesse. He was pissed off that Jesse was helping Hank and pissed off that Hank was killed, and so he just lashed out and gave Jesse up.

I think the most painful thing about the journey of the show is how much Walter Jr. loves his dad and just wants his dad, but Walt just doesn’t see it. I bawl my eyes out in the episode where Jr. goes to Walt’s apartment and Walt lies about why he’s a mess saying he “relapsed with gambling” (I think he and Jessie got in a fight). There’s a point when Jr. is tucking Walt in and Walt is not fully coherent and he calls Jr. Jessie. It makes my heart hurt so much for Jr. and I cry and cry and cry every time I see that scene.

This is also actually a very natural reaction Walt would have. Emotions were running high, it actually sort of makes sense Walt was angry that Jesse brought Hank along and indirectly resulted in his demise. Of course as outside viewer we can see ultimately Walt brought this upon himself and he shouldn't have blamed it on Jesse, but Walt as evil as he was, is still a human, who runs on emotion, especially after experiencing something traumatic.

This is how I interpreted the Walt pointing out Jessie situation. Walt was understandably pissed beyond all belief, when the episode started Walt wanted Jessie dead and after Hank's death Walt wanted something "good" to come out of the situation. At the time when the hit men said they were going to take Jessie for questioning before killing him Walt was so overcome with anger that he didn't care what they did to Jessie, he wasn't thinking it through. He doesn't want Jessie to suffer he just wanted him gone. I would say more but it would probably get into spoiler territory. Anyway, great reaction and have a good day.

Walt always understood that you never, never, never rat to the cops. That's part of their code. Jesse knows it too (think how many times he lawyered up), but he was desperate to get Walt and so he ratted him out. Jesse was also willing to consider going to the cops with the Gale situation, but Walt knew better. Think of Gus to Hector: "What kind of man goes to the DEA? No man at all." In this world, a rat is less than nothing. Once Walt realized Jesse had betrayed him *to Hank* (the worst possible person), Jesse was beneath contempt.
